Android cats and comic book shops, oh yea! These are a few of my favorite things… and they’re just a few of the cool elements in Tin Cat.

This story actually surprised me. I guess when I saw the story’s geektastic backdrop I was expecting more camp, but this is actually a really touching romance. The themes in the story are familiar and fresh at the same time. The suspense and romance elements are nicely woven together and balanced in the story. Really, all the elements from the comic book shop to the time travel and the cybernetic enhancements are all woven into the story with a skilled hand.

To sum up, Hunter and Amber’s story made for a fun and touching read! Highly recommended.

More on the blog shortly.

Misa pens "Tin Cat", paranormal romance novella, in a unique and different plot. Her characters are strong and believable while the romance heats up the pages. I couldn't put the book down until I was finished...I loved it. Highly recommended for all paranormal romance readers with a touch of erotic thrown in.

Do I want to start with the good or the bad? It’s a legitimate question because this book has both. I’ll start with the fact that I really liked the characters. The writing is easy and pleasant to read and the editing seems fairly clean. There are quite a few fun little geeky references. As far as I can tell (as a non-wheelchair user) the disability representation seems pretty good. At the very least, Buckley didn’t commit any of the big faux pas I keep on a lookout for. Plus, there is actual on-page sex between the two main characters. I feel like people who live with disabilities don’t often get to see themselves having the sexy times in books. So, I was thrilled by this.

On the other side of the coin is the fact that everything moves far too quickly. And I don’t even just mean the insta-lust/love. I mean that the plot moves too quickly for the reader to become attached to and/or care about the well-being of the character. The result was that I made to the end of the book without too many complaints, but also with a shrug.

And then there is the cover. It’s just not very good, IMO. Oddly, I’ve seen an older cover and think it’s better (though still a little too DIY to be called good). And—yes, this is a small thing but I am unreasonably annoyed by it—Cat is described as a tabby cat ON PAGE ONE. So, why is there a solid black cat on the cover ?

All in all, I’d call this a middle of the road read for me. It wasn’t bad, but I probably won’t remember it by next week. But I’d read another Buckley book.

The author had me at "android cat". Not "android's cat" although Star Trek TNG did that one very, very well, but "android cat". Being a cat, it's no more, or less, obedient than the purely flesh and blood kind. But that's not the end of the story.

Amber Gerald's adoption of "Cat" brings a whole new level of weird into her life. And considering that Amber owns a comic book store, weird is pretty much her stock-in-trade.

Her adoption of the stray cat brings a stray man into her life. and that's something that hasn't happened in over a year. Not since the auto accident that put her in a wheelchair.

But this Blade-wannabe who shows up at her shop says he's a time traveler. And so's the cat. Even better, or worse, he proves it to her. He shows her where his flesh meets his cybernetic implants. Hunter Gray is a bounty hunter with a built-in Kevlar vest, and a few other modifications.

What he isn't is put off by Amber's physical handicaps. He's merely curious. No one in the future has any handicaps like Amber's. Medical science has advanced past that point. Gray feels no pity, only intrigue, and interest. Good old-fashioned sexual interest. That's not a reaction Amber's seen from a man, let alone a gorgeous one, since the accident. Too many people, not just handsome men, see the chair and not her.

Amber is the strongest woman Gray has ever met. She accepted his story. She accepted his modifications. She's even accepting his need to guard her from the time-traveling bank robber he's pursuing.

All because she adopted that tin cat.

It's just too bad that whatever relationship they are building will end when Gray catches the villain. Because whatever they are building...it really is something special.

Verdict: Tin Cat is surprisingly good in any number of ways. You expect it to be an ugly duckling story. Meaning that Amber the handicapped ugly duckling gets turned into a beautiful swan by having her handicaps miraculously healed by future tech.

Let me reassure you now, Misa Buckley was much smarter than that. Or Amber was. Amber has come to terms with where her home is, and who her friends are. The ugly duckling in this story is Hunter Gray.

He's the one who gets redeemed by the power of true love, but not until after he does a few of the usual idiotic male actions first.

He lies about why he's chasing the bad guy. Not that the bad guy isn't truly evil, but there is some reason for his actions.

Gray is being punished, and he's not exactly forthcoming about why. Which doesn't mean he's not still a good guy. He's just typically afraid that he'll lose the best thing that ever happened to him if he's upfront about all of his many flaws.

Amber is hesitant about falling in love with anyone, let alone entering into a relationship with a definite expiration date.

Amber's handicaps are handled with a lot of sensitivity, but are not glossed over or made less in any way. She's brave but not Pollyanna.

And the cat both gets them in horrible trouble, and saves them in the end.

If you like science fiction romance at ALL, read this book!

I give Tin Cat by Misa Buckley 5 proudly costumed stars!

Tin Cat by Misa Buckley is a fun paranormal romance novella. I blazed through it and enjoyed every minute. The heroine, Amber, is snarky and brave. I loved that she was an unabashed geek with her own comic book shop to boot!

The fact that she is in a wheel chair is a recent adjustment for her. She has learned to be independent and cope but she doesn’t think guys still see her… just the chair. Her boyfriend before the accident left her when he found out her new reality. I felt her pain. I loved when her girl friend Sharon reminded her not everyone was like “Jeff the Jerk”.

Amber finds a stray cat out side her shop and rescues it. Not long after she adopts Cat a man comes into her shop. “Tall, lean, and leather-clad, he had a definite Blade vibe…” :D I laughed out loud when he told her his name’s Hunter Gray and she scoffs. I loved all the sci-fi references peppered throughout this story .

Gray tells her he’s from the future and the cat is a dangerous. I really liked Gray. He’s protective, strong and yet he is as wounded as Amber. he has suffered loss as well and is trying to atone for his past. There are delicious sparks between them and I liked that her disability was not a hindrance to his interest.

I loved the suspense element with the cybernetic cat and Gray trying to track down a time traveling bad guy. That kind of stuff sends my imagination soaring.

Like I said, I couldn’t put this story down. I was caught up in the adventure and romance. I loved watching Amber and Gray explore their feelings. I was right there with her as she was trying to protect her heart from being hurt any further by a man from the future.

A few of my fav lines…

♥ Obvious solution is obvious. I tapped my phone on the counter. “Okay then, Gray. I apparently have a cybernetic cat and you are hunting it. Or rather its owner, who is allegedly going to try rob the bank across the street. Did I leave anything out?”

“Yes.” He lifted a hand and removed the shades. His eyes were the color of chocolate, warm and inviting. Oh, Lord. “You omitted the part where the thief is from your future.”

“Of course I did.” I thought he was delusional. Or simply crazy. “It was the lack of a DeLorean that confused me.”

♥ Gray smoothed down the shirt. “Like I said—I studied the time, just in case I needed to fit in.”

“Well, you definitely fitted in this afternoon. God, I can’t believe Sharon tried to set us up.”

“Tried? I thought she managed.” The humor faded from his expression. “Or don’t you want to go out with me?”

♥ His smile was like the sun coming up. “Then it’s worth whatever happens,” he said,

I loved this novella! I embraced the element of seizing the day and not letting the past dictate your future… Also, the romance was hot. I recommend Tin Cat if you are in the mood for a sci-fi romance that’s full of snark and heart and courage.

((hugs))) Kat

3.5 stars. A pleasant story with an extremely likable heroine, Tin Cat is primarily let down by its novella length. Too much of the initial world-building felt like telling rather than showing (particularly with regard to the comic book store and Amber's place within the community she'd built). Amber's believability and strength, however, managed to shine through. Definitely worth picking up for those seeking a SFR novella with compelling leads and snappy dialogue.

I love Misa's books for her ability to cram a full strength romance into a novella package, and this book was no exception. The characters were well developed, their romance was steamy, and the ending was perfect.

This science-fiction with romance was good, fun and a fast read. The MC being in a wheelchair is what drew me to buy it (I am too, and I don't read a lot of books with heroes/heroines with similar disabilities represented much). I was pleased the author handled Amber well/gave her the respect and care she deserves b/c even though she's in a wheelchair, she's still human. That came across well throughout the book.
I will say it moved WAY too fast, especially with the romance. It wasn't just the insta-love, but the plot. Everything's taken care of pretty simply and easily, I didn't feel/worry about the characters. I didn't get attached to anyone. Then the whole thing with the bad guy - how was he going to accomplish his goal? His character, his reasons, didn't make much sense.
If the story could have slowed down and fleshed everything out further, this would've been 5 stars.

For starters, I chose this book to read because I just love stuff about time-traveling and sci-fi and also some romance. ;) Dystopian. You know. ;) So since this book kind of fits it all, I decided it was a good book to read! ;)

This book was cat a quite entertaining read about a girl who suffered many things throughout her life and now she was in a wheelchair. There was also a cat in the story which seemed like such a nice, little kitty, but it turns out the cat is also robotic. Can you make robots soft and warm like cats? Well, not nowadays, unless the government actually found a way and isn't telling us. But otherwise, that's what time-traveling is all about. ;)

I forgot to put another thing I like in books that's also included in this book. The mystery and suspense. When I was younger, I absolutely loved mysteries like any mystery books there were like The Boxcar Children and Nancy Drew but now I read myeries mixed with sci-fi and romance. Yep. ;) So creative of me right? LOL.

Although the romance was quite ummmm....new adult or actually adult, just skip a few pages. And back to story. Sorry, I don't really read adult romances but I had no idea that there were theses romances when I wanted to read the book. But I read so many romance book nowadays, it's bound to come up, so like I said, skip a few pages, and back to story! ;)

When Amber Gerald is suddenly forced to spend her life in a wheelchair, she believes that no man would ever want her again, much less be able to love her. Believing she has very little to offer the world beyond the confines of her small comic book store and its patrons, her life has become an exercise in bitter seclusion. Enter a stray cat who is soon followed by an incredibly handsome man and a man with evil intentions, none of whom are what they appear to be, and Amber’s life is about to turn upside down once more. Tin Cat by Misa Buckley is a sci-fi romance that brings two worlds together, and proves once again that everyone is worthy of love and happiness, regardless of how they feel about themselves.

I thoroughly enjoyed Tin Cat by Misa Buckley. I do not read a lot of science fiction, but something in this book grabbed my attention. Although this is more a novella than a full-length book, it is a quick and interesting read. Because of its length, the characters are not quite developed enough. While I had no trouble relating to Amber and Gray, I did feel as though I didn’t really get to know them as much as I would have liked. The romance between the two is fairly predictable, but both the romance and the plot twist just enough to keep it interesting. Tin Cat is definitely worth the read, and I’ll be looking for more of Misa Buckley’s work in the future.

Loved it! My first thought when I saw the title was K-9 in Doctor Who. So, I started out with a pleasant feeling about this story.

I wasn't disappointed at all. It's well-written, not a typo in sight and they usually jump out at me. It's fast, funny, FUN and different. Loved the characters, human and feline. Amber's diability was handled with taste and humanity.

The dialogue was excellent. Amber's life felt real. The romance was realistic and sweet. The villan was even well-rounded.

Altogether this story was terrific. I will definitely read it again and look for other stories by Ms. Buckley.

Looking for something different? A wheelchair-bound heroine who owns a comic book store, a time-traveling hero, and an android cat. Doesn't get much different than that. I really enjoyed this. He is sweet, though he comes across as a lunatic when he first shows up. She is feisty and tough, even though she is in a wheelchair. This is quick, fun and well worth the read. Don't judge the book by the cover. It makes much more sense after reading.

Tin Cat was one of the winner in this years SFR Galaxy Awards. I read the description and immediately purchased and read. It is a cute story that has an unusual main character. She is in a wheelchair and the man in the story does not let that bother him. A nice romance with a lot of danger thrown in.

Wasn't a terrible book but wasn't riveting either. It's something I would read on the airplane and let my seat mate permanently borrow if they asked.

I kinda loved Tin Cat. It is light and silly, and there is a lot of suspension of disbelief, but it is sci-fi/comic book, so what do you expect?
