Beautiful memories of growing up in and around Edinburgh in the early part of the 20th century. The descriptions are so vivid that it is like looking through a photo album with the author rather than reading a book.
The downside is that the snapshots can feel quite disjointed and the memories skip about assuming knowledge of people and events that the reader doesn't have. I also found the switch from I/we to you (referring to the narrator) quite jarring.
As a glimpse into old Edinburgh and the day-to-day life of a little girl in a time long gone, this book is a magical gem.
