Ansel Adams's sublime photographs of trees are the subject of this beautiful and elegant homage to the most graceful form in nature. 50 tritone photos.
"To get to the heart of what so inspired Ansel Adams, we literally followed in his footsteps. We lugged our cameras up sheer rock faces and hiked the winding trails that led Ansel to his photographic revelations. And they led us to Ansel." Ric Burns
My brother-in-law did a documentary on Ansel Adams in 2002 for PBS, and that is what led ME to Ansel Adams...
This book is incredible! No matter how many times I look through these photos, they never fail to take my breath away.
Spectacular collection of Ansel's trees. Beautiful tritone reproductions that are among the best I've seen of his work. Nice selection of photos with some short snippets of tree related text from Muir and others.
I put off buying this book for a while because I thought it would be unremarkable. There are so many Ansel books covering so many subjects, so a book collecting his trees seems like it might be one of the less inspiring ones, compared to books that give a broader focus on a region or type of work, rather than just a single subject. But this is one of the nicest of his books I've seen and very much worth getting. It's a fine selection of wonderful photos and the quality of the printing is exceptional.
Ansel Adams (1902- 1984) was one of the most prolific nature photographers of the 20th century. Throughout the course of Ansel Adams six (6) decades career, he photographed nature scenery and landscapes in the western U.S. and western Canada. And while practicing nature photography, Ansel Adams accumulated a number of photos in wich the main subject of the images are trees. This book is not one of the original nature photography books which Ansel Adams had published during his lifetime, "Ansel Adams: Trees" is a compilation which Janet Swan Bush and the editors who work at Little, Brown and Company compiled in 2004. Various species of trees have unique shapes- thus making trees an interesting subject for nature photos; people who enjoy Ansel Adam's works as well as anyone who enjoys viewing black and white nature photography and landscape photography will thoroughly enjoy this book.
