A long and tedious homily, claiming to be about this ancient fellow. It goes on and on with very little actual content.

It is as if Bacon did nothing at all.

This book isn't as innovated and devoted as the man this book is about, scratch that it turned out pretty meh. Bacon by Richard William Church is a boring but passable book, so it's not awful or anything. Something that didn't work was how hard the book was to understand. The author makes it so boring that you have to dig out the memorable actions that the characters do. So you can't sit back and relax, if you want to remember ANYTHING about the book. Something that did work on the other hand was the characters, besides there memorability. It's easy to tell that Church definitely tried to explain everything he could and after doing some research, he did a pretty good job with bacon and his life. Unfortunately this book has another problem, the focus. Yes Church did definitely try with bacon, but he gave too much info on everybody else, making it hard to focus. The book bacon is ok, the author did try with it, but the wrong focus and with how boring it is made it's recommendation level pretty low.

Interesting but a little disappointing that the book didn't delve into the man, only his life events. I was hoping it would get more intimate with his thinking and literary accomplishments. The book focused mostly upon his desires and rise to public service and frankly I felt it was slanted a little on the negative side. The book also assumes you already know Bacon's accomplishments. If you are unfamiliar with Francis Bacon, this book will leave you wondering why he was so famous. A rather sad epitaph for such a powerful man.

Will not give you much on Bacon's philosophy; it is more about his career. That provides an interesting insight into the politics and court-life of his times.
