Encyclopedia Of Aquarium & Pond Fish

Rate this book
Lavishly illustrated, comprehensive, and accessible, this is the first book on the market to provide care and identification information on all types of fish for every possible environment, from indoor aquariums to outdoor ponds. The Encyclopedia of Aquarium & Pond Fish contains a directory of more than 800 of the most popular pet fish species—freshwater, saltwater, coldwater, and tropical—showing not only what each fish looks like, but what food they eat, which species they can cohabitate with, how big they grow, and much more.

The book also includes a thorough guide to the general principles of fish care, from choosing the right type of fish for your lifestyle, to constructing a tank or pond, to setting up a complete ecosystem with multiple fish and plant species. With beautiful, full-color photographs to accompany the incredible wealth of information, it’s both a joy to look through and an indispensable resource for any fishkeeping enthusiast.

This was a super informative guide to help my future plans of acquiring fish tanks. The pictures were super helpful in identification as well and learning key terms for descriptions.

Quite a good book containing a lot of info about different species of fish. The descriptions are short, but the most important info is there. I found most of the fish I was looking for and luckily managed to make some changes to my own tank in order to keep the fish alive. Recommending it!

This book is great for chooseing fish wisely, it tells what aditude they have, if they are aggressive or need a sertian temperature for living healthy. This bookalso tells you about if you'll see them a lot, if its like a catfish you might not see them as much as a Tetra or a Crawfish. I had to read about crawfish because I'm getting one, but this morning he crawed out of the tank, so I read about him and it says that they can crawout of the tank, nad they can stay out of the water for like an hour. This book is good for people that are new to the fish hobby, it will tell you how to set up your fish tank so you can get fish in it right away. Another thing is that they can choose the right condidonr for the water so your fish has the same water as if they were never caught. Overall this book stands out to me, because last year I set up a 20 gallon fish tank that was in my room, the fish were dieing and I wanted to know why. I found out that the water condidonr i was using was poison for the fish, I can thank my uncle for buying me that book, if you are reading this Craig, thanks. Good book, if you have a fish tank this a MUST READ!!

I liked the book, I really did but I feel like the facts were kind of dated. It'd be a really good book if you read it when it was published in 2005 but now, facts have changed so some of the things it talks about are false. Because of that I'm only giving it a 2 out of 5 stars. A book that's like it is Fish: A Question and Answer Book by Isabel Martin

When my family asks for my Christmas List, I'll just hand them a copy of this.

5 stars. Everything you want in a hobbyist's encyclopedia and more, which sounds like empty marketing but here it's actually true.

As always DK does a beautiful job of portraying the physical reality with lavish photography and illustrations. The information for the most part is right on, although I could have wished for more detail. The basics were well covered and this title was one of the main titles I relied on to make my fish purchasing decisions. I highly recommend it for both browsing and using it to set up a thoughtfully designed community aquarium.
