MP3 CD Format From bestselling author Lisa Lang Blakeney, comes a new standalone, billionaire boss romance set in the world of professional football.

How many ways do I need to say—I quit? My family thinks I'm crazy, my astrology chart says it's a mistake, but after three years of carefully molding the highly narcissistic Cooper Barnes into the "athlete influencer" of the year— I quit.

He won't care anyway. Whether they work for him or sleep with him, women have always been expendable to the billionaire baller. Even me.

What is wrong with Ursula Owens? It's like she woke up one day this whole new person. A woman I don't recognize.

One day she was my quirky, highly organized assistant, happily managing my entire life for me. The next she is handing in her resignation with no warning and no good reason.

Good thing I know what I want. I may have met her by chance, but I'm keeping her by choice. Just maybe our love story is fated after all.

Contains mature themes.

This reminded me of The Wall of Winnipeg and me by Mariana Zapata...but neither can be measured or compared with each other or any other...

I liked this story, although, I had some issues with the "proceedings" of the H's unraveling plan towards the heroine, but those are the pet peeves I deal with on an every day basis...LOL

A solid entertaining read!

Ursula Owens is super hardworking and is the very dedicated PA to the world's most self-centered boss Cooper Barnes, superstar tight end for the New York Nighthawks. She's worked herself ragged for 3 years making Cooper look the best. Now that all her hard work has paid off so much to the point that he's being named "Athlete Influencer of the Year", she's had it. She plans to quit right after the award ceremony. Its not like Cooper will miss her or even care, right ? She figures it will be fine, after all, it's not as if Cooper even notices her or cares about her anyway, right?

Well it turns out she's wayyy wrong because Cooper doesn't take her quitting well at all. Could his friend, Saint, be right --that Cooper has real feelings for her? Oh thats not right...right ????
This is a steamy, witty, hot romance story that will have you rooting for the main characters from start to finish.

Had potential

The story concept was good but both character arcs seemed incomplete. This could have been so much more and that’s not including the small grammatical/editing errors.

Liked the background story of how Cooper and Ursula met when they were kids. But I didn't like their personalities and how they acted.

I do believe i`ll be starting a list on authors that have managed to keep me awake long after my preferred bed time. Lisa Lang Blakely will be on that list. Wolf was a short read. I started it in the morning and by the time I finally put down my kindle to attempt to sleep, well, I had finished the book. It was interesting. It was engaging too. Completely different from what I’ve come to expect from this author, as I’ve had the chance to read the majority of her books.

I’ll admit that I haven’t read Gunslinger before getting my grubby little fingers on Wolf, but I do own it, and i`m thinking that now I should start from that book so that I get a better idea of who the Nighthawks are. This book was fun, I liked the fact that for more than half of the book, Lisa Lang Blakely concentrated on who the characters are rather than the supposed chemistry that exists between them. I was intrigued, and that’s what kept me wanting to keep reading.

Only, as I kept reading, hitting that 60-65% mark, I found that things progressed incredibly fast. We get hit by so much information all at the same time, and I know that had this book been a full length rather than a novella, it would have made a huge difference. In that 30-35% left of the book, we get the backstory of Coop and Ursula, we finally understand why the book is called Wolf and we have the growing chemistry that is built between these two.

Yes, I may wish there was more to this book, but it was still captivating. It still made me want to keep reading and it was completely new for me from this author. I`m more than a little curious to find out what she`ll come up with in her next release.

I thought this was going to be like a Wall of Winnipeg and Me book with an accelerated timeline since the book was so short and no. We had some of that and then a twist that came out of literally nowhere. They went from not communicating to soulmates in a shockingly short amount of time. I wanted to be swept into this and really, really wasn't.

This is kinda disappointing to me :( It was a good book but not great (well at least for me tho).

THE HERO KNOWS THE HEROINE since she graduated from her high school. HE’S BEEN SEARCHING HER for a while because she was involved in a crash with him when they were kids...

WHEN HE FOUND HER, HE JUST MADE A EFFORT TO GO TO THE AGENCY HE WORK WITH so they can offer her to work for him as his ASSISTANT!

BUT...
The most annoying part is that.
WHEN HE FINALLY HAVE HER AND WORK WITH HER FOR 3 YEARS, HE IS A WHOREMAN. Argh!

HE DOESNT CLAIM HER RIGHT AWAY LIKE I WANT HIM TO BE! You know like a alpha smart man! NO...

FOR THE LAST 3 YEARS THEY WORK TOGETHER HIM BEING THE BOSS, HE WHORE HIMSELF to any woman he likes. THE HEROINE CALLED IT “THE FLAVOR OF THE MONTH HE HAS”...
the heroine saw it all...

HEROINE IS A VIRGIN...
But also the hero’s reaction was not good, like he take it very simple about it uhh.

I THINK THE HEROINE wants the hero too but because the hero was not showing any sign of interest on her and always with another woman, THE HEROINE JUST NOT TAKE HIM SERIOUS...
THE WORST PART IS THAT THE HERO FOR THE PAST 3 YEARS he knows deep down and always knows that the heroine was the one for him. HE EVEN SAID IT IN THE END... BUT HE IGNORED HIS TRUE FEELINGS AND JUST BEING STUPID. WTF??!
I hate hero like this. I want to punch him so bad!

THE HERO NEVER MAKE HIS MOVES TO THE HEROINE FOR THAT LONG... EVEN he knows that the heroine was the one he wants since he was a kid...

THEIR CONNECTION ARE SO BAD....

I don’t find myself feeling good about this story.

WHEN THE HEROINE WANTS TO QUIT BEING HIS ASSISTANT. HE GOT ALL MAD ABOUT IT AND SLOWLY REALIZE HOW WRONG HE IS... WHEN THE HEROINE GO ON A DATE WITH OM, HE GOT ALL SO MAD ABOUT IT AND EVEN THROW A BALL AT THE OM! Even tho i like a hero being possessive but hello? What a stupid move to make after all this time!

NO CHEATING

HAPPY ENDING THO

but the book sucks. Good but not great.

I loved the start of this book and thought the story had real potential. However, there was a twist of sorts which sort of ruined it for me if that makes sense? I just didn’t think it was needed as the storyline was strong enough without it.

I felt the characters needed fleshing out a bit more and felt the ending was really rushed.

I was also a bit confused (and offended on the female mc’s behalf!) on how nice Coop was to his new assistant. He hurt MY feelings with that whole situation and then it was never mentioned again.

Looking back it was like the beginning of the story was written by a different person from the end of the story. I also felt it was quite expensive for a short read. I’ve read novellas that wee the same length as this book. Think it only took me about 1.5hrs/2hrs to read.

Wolf by Lisa Lang Blakeney is the second book in the Nighthawk series. This is a standalone football romance and there’s no need to have read the previous book first.

Ursula and Cooper’s story is unfortunately one I didn’t really connect with.

Ursula is ready to quit her job with Coop and this is a big focus, but I just wished it happened quickly and let their relationship developed differently. I think that’s what let down the story for me.

There’s a plot twist, some tension and a history which comes out.

But the story is a complete standalone with a HEA and it’s wrapped up well in one book.

The story is dual POV’s from both Ursula and Cooper.

Highly entertaining story with very amusing banter between Coop and Owens. Nana and Owens’ sisters’ interactions in the book were hilarious too. There are steamy sex scenes towards the end but most of the book is about their relationship and their background story. That was a good twist on the accident. I wish there was more elaboration on Coop’s background story. Overall - very good; read it in one sitting. [I received an advanced copy of this book and voluntarily chose to review it.]

I adored this, I wasn’t a fan of Coop at first but I grew to love him so fast. I absolutely loved how Ursula and Coop were connected for so long without knowing and I love how that part of the story came together and played out. Again I felt like the ending was rushed and I really wanted more but I’m also satisfied with the ending and hoping for more cameos in the rest of the series!

This book has been compared to The Wall of Winnipeg and Me so I decided to give it a go. It is not was call as The Wall of Winnipeg and Me but it was still an entertaining read. A football star that doesnt realise what his assistant means to him until she say those two little words no boss wants to hear "I quit".

Interesting plot, blah characters

I really wanted to write this book and it started off strong. However I never really felt the connection between characters. It seems like they just all of a sudden had feelings for one another and not in a fairytale type of way.

Off the charts chemistry, witty banter, and bits of humour thrown in make this book an exciting, worthy read. Highly recommended. Howling for Wolf!

ByB C Bookloveron September 19, 2018

Format: Kindle Edition

This is another wonderful sports themed romance by the talented Lisa Lang Blakeney. I have read all her books including the 1st Nighthawk book Gunslinger, which I loved, can't wait for the next one, Diesel. Of course, this can be read as a standalone but why miss out on a great series?

Our lead characters have been together for 3 years but not like you might think. Ursula Owens has been the most amazing PA to Nighthawks football star, Cooper Barnes, gorgeous, self centered, alpha a$$hole, for her entire working career. He barely seems to appreciate her. She has spent almost every minute of the last 3 years of her life doing anything and everything he needs or wants and she has finally had enough! Time for her to have a life with some free time in it that doesn't revolve around a certain self centered, unappreciative football player! Maybe go out, finally find a boyfriend, get drunk, whatever!!! He won't even miss her, right?

Wrong! Cooper is shocked to say the least, maybe even devastated! Why would Owens (his pet name for her!) leave him? Hasn't he been the best, most generous boss? What is her problem, surely she can't be serious! Well, she was & then maybe she wasn't..why did she want to leave again???

I have to tell you, these 2 were fun to read about. Their interactions were pretty hilarious, much laughter while enjoying this book. There is range of feelings here-sexy, steamy, silly, funny and so much more. Ursula/Owens sure gave as good as she got..she was a badass & I loved her character. Coop truly seemed to be the typical good looking, arrogant jerk right from the start but could there be more to him than meets the eye? There could! There is some great back & forth play between Coop & Owens which just made the story for me. There are many, cool, interesting secondary characters that contributed so much to the story. I especially liked a chapter where Ursula & her sisters 'cut loose' & Coop crashes their fun..so good, sooo very funny.

There is a great twist running though this plot which culminates towards the end with a satisfying Ahhhh! Loved it.

I whizzed my way through Wolf in a few lovely hours, parked on my couch...didn't want to put it down. Lisa's writing style just flows seamlessly and goes down easy. This is a definite recommend. Might have to read it again!

Ursula Owens is the hardworking, dedicated PA to the world's most self-centered, narcissistic boss, Cooper Barnes, star tight end for the New York Nighthawks. She's worked her ass off for for three years making him look good and now that all her hard work keeping him in line and organized has paid off so much that he's being named "Athlete Influencer of the Year", she's done. She plans on quitting right after tonight's award ceremony. She figures it will be fine, after all, it's not as if Cooper even notices her or cares about her anyway, right?

Well it turns out she's wrong because Cooper doesn't take her resignation very well. Is his friend, Saint, right that it's because Cooper has feelings for her? Of course not...

Wolf was snarky fun and I enjoyed it. It wasn't as long as I had been hoping for, though, and not as developed as I prefer. I wanted more of them in an actual relationship, as they didn't get together until nearly 90%, but their working relationship was snarky and witty and their banter was obviously filled with sexual tension. And the little twist the author threw in? Pretty sneaky stuff, but in a good way. I can't wait for Diesel's story next (Diesel).

ARC via Booksprout for an honest review.

Rashed ending

The theme was interesting, first half of the book was good, he was an enigmous blockhead, which was kind of an interesting combination .

SPOILER
At first I was confused with Ursula, if she was supposed to be the enigma.....with her memories of a fatal accident being unclear and all.
The ending didn't make much sense to me and confused the hack out of me, with him being in love with her for a long time, but treating her like crap for 3 years.....and then when everything is revealed he just transforms (as quickly as you snap your fingers) to this loving, kind , supportive man.
Also the reveal was soooo rushed, I was waiting for the dinner with Jim and action A) Coop storms it, because by then he was very interested in where she is at the moment or action B) Jim and her have the conversation that they had, he tries to come on really hard but she shuts him down and leaves.
But we didn't even have that, the book just skips it altogether and then has some references back to it.......that really disappointed me.....
There was no narration of her thoughts if she should confront him, no angst no nothing. She just came to him and said it.
The emotions were just very high, with them crying and all, or they just weren't there......I didn't feel emotionally invested in them at all ( I am a crier, I cry at comedies, I didn't cry even once)
In the end I liked more Coop his character was more interesting and centered then Ursulas.

That was actually a lot more emotional than I was expecting. I one clicked this as soon as I put Saint down and then didn't read it. For some reason every time I was trying to figure out what to read next this just wasn't it. Mainly because I have this aversion to friends to lovers, until I'm reading them.

I want my couple to be all in from the start. I don't want one of them to be off having fun and the other sitting and pining. Which in my brain was what I expected and I kind of got that, but I also didn't.

Ursula was more than I was expecting. And her family was so sweet and a little bit crazy. I loved that she was very self-aware and stood up for what she wanted without being overboard with it. And she also didn't let anyone talk her out of her decisions except for herself.

However, Cooper turned out to be the dark horse of the story. My first opinion of him was not a positive one and I was worried about where this was going to go. But then he let some of those walls down and we got to see the real him. And I couldn't get enough of him.

My only complaint is that we didn't get enough of Ursula and Cooper together. I liked the slow reveal, and they were hot once they were actually together but it didn’t feel like we got enough of that. It kind of went from will they to oh they did. I didn’t feel like there was enough of the happily ever after outside of the bedroom. And now I’m going to add the next one to my TBR.

Ursula is a hard working assistant who is looking for more in her life. When she finally decides to quit her job, her boss, Cooper is not only shocked but in a panic. But what is the reason for his worry? Is it that she can't be replaced? That she is indispensable to his well being? This slow burn sports romance is full of witty banter and a chemistry that is undeniable. Lisa Lang Blakeney has a knack for writing that pulls you in, makes you feel comfortable and you kick back to enjoy the story of your friends. It's that good! Cooper and Ursula are like people you know. Ursula has that work ethic that is above and beyond. Though she loves her job, she has always wanted to be an actress. Cooper is arrogant, and overpowering, yet he does possess a soft side. But what these two don't know is the common link that holds them together. The twist is unexpected, the romance is slow building, but so good and the story just a great listen. I love this series and look forward to book 3!

Hayden Bishop and Jeremy York narrate this gem. Bishop is amazing. I love her narration, and with this character she has a no nonsense tone that suits Ursula to T! It's perfect! Jeremy York as Cooper could not have been cast better. He gives Cooper that superior feel, yet he add that bit of insecurity. It's a great narration and you don't want to miss it!

Executive assistant Ursula Owens knows there's nothing she can do about her attraction to her handsome boss Cooper. Coop is the last guy that any woman should get involved with and Ursula plans to quit her job. Ursula's nana warns her that if she quits, someone else will snatch up Coop, her Mr. Right, but Ursula insists there's nothing between them. Or is there? Superstar tight end for the New York Nighthawks, philanthropist, and self-made billionaire Cooper Barnes trusts his beautiful assistant Ursula to plan his entire life. When Coop jokes about firing Ursula and she begs him to, he laughingly tells her "As if you'd ever leave me." When Ursula quits, Coop can't stop wondering why and can't sleep so he calls his friend Saint. Saint can't stop laughing after he hears the story and tells Cooper "She's not just your employee, dummy. She's a whole lot more." After Coop tucks a drunk and sleeping Ursula into bed, an indescribable urge comes over him and he says "Don't go anywhere just yet. We're just getting to know each other." Will Cooper be able to convince Ursula to stay and be his?

Lisa Lang Blakeney delivers a hilarious, drama-filled and steamy story full of lovable characters that will totally suck you in

Holy amaze balls. I floved this story from page 1 till the end. I couldn't get enough I kept wanting more and more with every page turn. No tissues needed maybe for the droll that will be no doubt coming out of your mouth, and the edge of your seat will now be your best friend. Move over Saint, Roman, and the Kings a new Alpha is in town and is way hotter. Lisa has done an outstanding and amazing job writing this story the way the story line is the characters all of it. This story really grabs at you from the start and holds on. I really loved how the ending turned out I really thought it was going in a different direction then what it really did. The banter the whole story was really one that I couldn't stop laughing and enjoying over and over again. The story has this realistic feel to it just by the way its told. I read this story in one day hell one sitting I honestly couldn't get enough. I felt like a fly on the way and really enjoyed that. I could have more Copp and Owens by the end I really wanted more. MUST READ trust me when I say you want to read this over and over again.

Book two within this series and I enjoyed it more than the first book.
Ursula works for Cooper aka Wolf...
Cooper is an NFL Player and a millionaire who has other buisnesses other than playing football..
Ursula has been organising Cooper's life as his assistant for 3 years and she feels like its time for a change...She is planning on quitting her job and pursuing her dream of being an actress.
Cooper is a difficult man to work for the one person he trusts is Ursula and I think he takes her for granted alot.
So when she tells him she is leaving..he is both shocked and angry...he has 30 days to convince her to stay.
There is twist to this story I never expected or saw coming and it made this book so intriguing...So even though the story was a quick listen/read,It is packed full of entertainment, steam and romance...Cooper turns out to be the perfect guy for Ursula and he shows he is not the guy people thinks he is.
Jeremy York and Hayden Bishop are once again BRILLIANT narrating this book..the emotions they express is Amazing and I really LOve listening to them.
An Excellnt story from Lisa Lang Blakeney.
5 Stars.
