How far would you go to save what you thought you’d lost during the apocalypse? After learning her father is alive, going with Heath had seemed like a no-brainer to Rowan. Her dad was all she had left, after all. The only remaining piece of the life she’d loved so much. But their reunion doesn’t go quite the way she expected it to, and Rowan finds herself alone and uncertain, making her wish she’d taken the time to think things through before making a decision that might cost her so much.Kiaya has always been logical and resourceful, and she’s confident if she and Devon work together, they’ll be able to figure out a way to get Rowan back. But there’s trouble brewing in the group, making Kiaya question who she can trust. Even worse, she can’t help wondering if staying at the school is the right decision at all. Between the zombies walking the earth, the wildfire that shows no signs of stopping, and dangerous survivors lurking both in town and in their very own halls, it feels like the whole world is out to get them. Still, Kiaya is determined to not only save Rowan, but to also figure out a way to keep everyone she cares about safe.
I'm a mom of four, Air Force wife, and author of adult and young adult dystopian, post-apocalyptic, and science fiction. I love intense world building and character driven stories that feature strong female leads - as well as a side of romance - and any end of the world scenario. Zombies, aliens, a distant future where people have no clue how the world ended in the first place, you name it, I will create a story there!
Having lived in a lot of different places after more than a decade as an Air Force wife, I love setting my books in cities I've actually lived in to give them authenticity. I've resided in: Indiana, Georgia, Mississippi, South Carolina, California, and Oklahoma but am currently back in my home state of Ohio where I live with my husband, four kids, two dogs, and three cats.
When I'm not writing, you can find me by my pool (in the summer), getting lost in some binge-worthy show or at a play with my husband, patronizing one of the great restaurants in my small town of Troy, Ohio with my family, or traveling. I want to see everything and make a point of visiting a new place every year!
Some of my favorite books are The Hunger Games, Pride and Prejudice, The Host, and The Stand. My favorite movies are Aliens, Jaws, Signs, Say Anything, Everything Everywhere All At Once, and The Greatest Showman.

I have loved this series from the time I first started it. But this book seemed to be lacking in action compared to the first 2 books and leaves me wondering what happens to certain characters. Hoping that this picks up a bit in book 4.

Wow finally!!! Far from Safe ended with a cliffhanger that had me cursing at the author. That’s not new bc she likes to end things with you on the edge of your seat and looking for the next book to release.
We legit pick up in the same place that we left off but..... I love the author gives you the last book two recap from Kiaya’s POV!!! I’d been wanting inside her and Devon’s mind since the very beginning.
Rowan has been taken by Heath and his goons and they’re headed back to the hospital when Rowan’s dad is. Kiaya, Devon and Gabe are headed back to the school. Both Rowan and Kiaya are wondering wtf is next.
Rowan is known for acting on her emotions and not thinking ahead and getting her and her friends into situations that end with them fighting for their lives and this is no different. But, this time Rowan realizes she needs to stop doing that and she needs to start thinking things thru more carefully and logically like Kiaya.
Getting to the hospital Rowan sees their setup is amazing but Heath is running it like it’s his way or the highway. Instead of being allowed to see her father she’s getting a shock collar put on her neck and put into a room for probation.
Rowan won’t tell Heath where Gabe and her friends are staying. She sees death and revenge in his eyes and she won’t be a part of it. Regardless of the world they’re living in.
Kiaya and Devon must think of a way to get Rowan back. Kiaya knows it won’t be easy since Gabe doesn’t listen very well to what she has to say.
When Lane gets hurt Kiaya knows she’s gotta take her to the hospital. Gabe doesn’t think it’s a good idea since Lane’s ex is Heath and he wants both Lane and Gabe dead.
But, if they could get Lane help and get closer to getting Rowan back with them that’s a chance everyone is willing to take.
This book was mind blowing!! Kiaya, Rowan, Devon and the rest of their group didn’t have to fight as many zombies as the first two books but don’t be mistaken. In this new world where they’re surrounded by zombies and there’s no cops people are acting out and there’s nobody to stop them.
These friends will do everything to get back together but what happens when they realize they’ve been traveling with a monster this entire time. Plus they know they’ve made enemies that aren’t going to just disappear. ESP in this new world.
This is one storyline and characters I’m logging and that I not only want more but I need more of so Kate L Mary I need you to hurry up asks write the next part of their story.
If I thought my emotions were all over the place in the last book, I had no idea what Mary had planned for us in this one. My heart stayed in my throat the entire read, because from start to the very bitter end, so much is thrown at us. Unimaginable pain and heartbreak. Rejection and loss. Love and hope.
FAR FROM LOST didn’t feature as many zombies as the previous books. But where it lacked in the undead, it made up for it with everything else that happens. I thought I hated Miller, but I had no idea that a man named Heath would make Miller seem like a Girl Scout. I loathe him with the fire of a thousand suns. Seriously though, problem after problem arose one after another, making this one steady paced story.
I am super excited this wasn’t the end like I figured it would be. Because there are lots of unanswered questions we need answers too. FAR FROM LOST is one heck of a page turner and a definite must read that had me biting my nails to the quick. I cannot wait for more of Devon, Rowan and Kiaya in FAR FROM OVER. 5 Stars!!
Rowan has some growing up to do, and she does a bit in this installment. We also get to know Kiaya more in depth. "Teenagers Gone Wild", some definite serial killer potential, and lots of "lessons learned". It's a bumpy ride, but it's well worth it.
This followed on from the previous book . It showed that the Living can be more evil and dangerous then the "undead". I was a bit disappointed that after all the trio had been through , Rowan still showed weakness and caused lots of chaos with her choice , but I think she started to change and become stronger towards the end . There is lots of danger , action and drama , sadness and loss . Heath is as evil as they come and makes life very hard for our trio. But there is someone more evil lurking about ! Kiaya showed she was a survivor and her determination and efforts to help Devon bring back Rowan and save all of the people she cared about was amazing . I liked that Devon and Rowans romance had a chance to develop more in this book even with all that was going on around them - they are perfect for each other . . Loved the writing and looking forward to more !
Picking up where the last installment finished we find Rowan being taken by Heath and his group as well as an angry and distraught Devon and Kiaya. Getting her back again is going to be harder than they ever imagined especially with danger lurking from within, the fires raging out of control and the lies and tension between the two groups. Rowan was not sure what to expect when she gets to the hospital. Other than desperate to get to her father she had not thought it through, at all. Which just might be her worst quality. Scared and alone she vows to never act without thinking first, if she ever gets back to Devon. Exciting, action pact and full of surprises this next installment will keep you in your toes!
Something about Kate L Mary's zombiverse just hits me in all the happy places. I am glad to know that there will be a continuation of this universe in Far From Over following Rowen and Kaiya. I suspect this will include more of Matt and Zara as Devon&Rowen have become an official item. What I loved about this book was getting to see Kaiyas perspective this time and her tough girl chic with a cooler head to Rowens impulsive nature.
Looking forward to reading Angus next and hopefully at some point in the Far From series there will be more Cameos etc and expansions on zombie mythos created by Star and the immune survivor round up by Atlanta.
This book continued right where second book ended. We got to see how that scene went from Kiaya's pov. I liked that we got Rowan's and Kiaya's pov. That way it was easier to know what happened in the school and the hospital. And that is why I wasn't sure if I should believe Gabe or Heath. They both told different story what went down between them. I was happy that out survivors were with the right group. I really liked this book and can't wait to read next one. There are some open questions.
An ARC was provided in exhange for an honest review.
Wow this came in the Knick of time. I was looking for something to read. Rowan, Kiya and Devon have don’t it again. I enjoyed this so much and can’t wait to read more. I highly recommend this book.
Will she regret her decision is what this book is about when after a emotional decision leads her to find her father. When one group of survivors is trying their best to stay alive and keep everyone safe another group comes along and threatens everyone. There is a madman in charge, shock collars and a bunch of renegade teens. The character development is what keeps me coming back.
I’ve spent months reading the other series set in this world and I’ve absolutely loved them, so I was really looking forward to reading this series and starting the apocalypse from the beginning again! This series was very interesting and there was obviously a lot in it! There were a lot of enemies, teamwork, love and zombies! The plot also held my attention all the way through and it had a lot of romance in it between two main couples! The romance allowed for a few steamy scenes too! There was also a lot of action and suspense in the books, which kept the plot moving and made us lose some important characters! The plot of the entire series developed further than I was expecting and I loved it a lot! The characters were also amazing and made this book even better! Rowan and Kiaya were the two female characters! I have to be honest and say that I thought that Rowan was going to be a kickass character, but there were points were she rushed into decisions and ended up putting her group in danger and I found her kind of childlike! She did grow on me at points! For me, Kiaya came a long way in this series and she grew a lot and was a strong character who could look after herself and was a great friend to Rowan! Devon, Doug and Gabe were all the main male characters! Devon was the love interest of Rowan and they got together pretty quickly and as the series progressed they had a family! Devon was very protective of Rowan and he would do anything to protect those he cared about! Doug started a romantic relationship with Kiaya as this series progressed! They did go through a rough patch, but it was easy to see how much they meant to each other! They were both stubborn as well lol! This series was mainly written from Rowen and Devon’s point of view, but quite a few chapters were written from Kiaya, Doug and Gabe’s point of views! I loved all the different point of views because it helped me connect with all the characters and see how they were dealing with the changes they were going through! It allowed for more things to happen in the plot as well, which helped as the characters did go through some situations by themselves! I now can’t wait to read more books from this author! I’m not sure if there’s going to be another series set in this world, but I really hope there is! It’s been a hell of a journey from book one of the Broken World series to the eighth book of the Far series! I also love the covers for this series! They really suit the books and the apocalyptic aspect of the plot! They suits the covers for the other series as well! The cover models are also the perfect Rowan, Kiaya and Devon!
This book picked up at the exact location where Book 2 ended, so don't even think of reading this one first. Rowan has made another impulsive decision in order to be reunited with her father. Unfortunately, things don't go exactly as she imagined and instead of the happy reunion she expected, she finds herself a prisoner of a man named Heath.
Meanwhile, her friends work out a plan to try to rescue Rowan, which could mean putting a lot of other people in danger. Will Rowan ever learn to be less impulsive, endangering her friends in the process?
I enjoyed the fact that the author told a lot of the story from Kiaya's viewpoint. She is such a strong, logical character and she really came into her own in this book. Even though this book didn't have a lot of zombie encounters, it had plenty of tension with a gang of "Lost Boys", a creepy teenage predator, and soap opera type love triangles. The author handled many real life problems in this book, including alcoholism, depression, child abuse, sexism and evil in a very realistic and effective way.
Ms. Mary has created a wonderful cast of characters and this book is an action-filled ride from start to finish. I can't wait to see what happens next!
There are good things and bad things about this book and this series. It has excellent tension and some well developed characters. The story line is good and while it follows a predictable recipe, it does it with often well described scenes and characters. There are some things that don’t work. The heroine is a key character that doesn’t work. Her past and present selves are far too contradictory and there isn’t enough reason for the change. Some of the characters are not well developed and end up sounding so similar to others that they blur and it’s difficult to keep track. Miller was well done but the change was too extreme. It would have worked better if it happened more gradually with traumas for him with his group at his back. Hank doesn’t work at all. If he were that bad, there would have been serious problems earlier on. This is a major flaw in the development of the story. There are also a fair number of editing issues that slow down the flow of reading and at times don’t make sense.
Kate L Mary has got to be the light of my 2020. I found these novels at the height of the pandemic. Her worlds and characters came to life as I turned pages engaging me with each and every new release. Far From Lost was just another epic release that reinforced that Mary is my 2020 favorite discovery. In this novel, we finally get Kiaya's insight. I knew she was smart, however living in foster care her entire life has given her an advantage in this new world. Her ability to engage, challenge men and give insightful direction had me cheering. It's so refreshing to have a smart, fearless leading lady who needs no one to rely on. As this group attempts meeting the hospital survivors more information comes to light that changes everything about their worlds. Mary yet again keeps you turning pages and excited for what comes next. You must read the Far series in order to really follow along, but it's well worth your purchase.
The story revolves around a group of apocalypse survivors. Rowan, one of the female survivors is held captive by another group’s leader to extort food supplies. Lane, another female from the same group is critically injured in an automobile accident and desperately needs a doctor. Our strong female lead Kiya is a take-charge type, assuming the responsibility to solve both issues. Kiya has a good head on her shoulders, outspoken and confident while mentally advocating reverse sexism. Perhaps this minor flaw is the result of past experiences or exposure to a fair share of chauvinists. In any case, she’s someone to have on your side and I appreciate her character. The account follows Kiya as she works her way through multiple issues in her group. In conclusion, I must admit I was quite upset over what happened to Lane. That should have never been allowed to happen. I was given this free review copy audiobook at my request and have voluntarily left this review.
Far From Lost (Far #3) was a great read by Kate L. Mary. Rowan found out that her father was alive and will whatever she could to get back to him especially since he is all she has left. Unfortunately for her, everything doesn’t go as she expected when she finds him. She wishes that she didn’t make an impulsive decision and thought things through. Kiaya is sure that her and Devon can figure out how to get Rowan back if they work together. Kiaya will do whatever she can in order to keep the important people around her safe. I loved Kelley Hazen’s narration and the life she brought back to the characters. I cant wait to read more by the author.
The action picks right up where we left off in Far From Safe. Rowan ends up having no choice but to go with Heath and his crew, leaving Kiaya and Devon trying to figure out how to get her and her father back. The teenager Hank gets weirder, Lane gets badly hurt, there is more fire, people dying, love, oh Lordy! Keeps you on your toes...now to see what Kate has up her sleeve next!
Another exciting and action packed read that had me hooked from the start and finishing in one sitting. I loved this book, it was an emotional rollercoaster that had me on the edge of my seat and sometimes reaching for the tissues. The whole series has been incredibly addictive, with fantastic, expressive narration, I can't wait for the next book, keep them coming. I received this book in exchange for my honest review.
Ms. Mary’s books are excellent for readers of any age from 13 to 75. She presents well developed characters, creative plots, and unexpected story lines. I have bought her books since her first zombie series. Escape into her world for yet another great read. I can’t wait until her next book arrives!
If you wanted Rowan, Kaiya, and Miller to flesh out then this is the installment for you. Oh and big surprise on creepy hank being creepy.... loved it, also hoping for the next one to have more zombies. Also can someone slap the fuck out of doctor summers? That would be swell.
Why are they going to the gym ? Ohio is 1 of 5 states that mass fluoridate water supply. Need a place to flee to. Or meet up. Her dad wasn’t aware someone had been in his house ?!?! What’s up with Hank ? You can take firing pins out of weapons. Not killing the psycho is a mistake. Democracy is mob rule.
Really good series so far . Rowan has been taken hostage by a group at the hospital . Her Dad is there although he is a shell of the man she remembers . As Devon and the group plan to get her back it seems the main motive of the other group is revenge . Would definitely recommend this series.
This part had lots of action. I felt like Rowan was still doing the most with the whining and crying as if she's the only one going through things. But then you meet her dad and he's no better. More drama at the end but seems like everybody was making bad decisions. There's some losses but that's expected during an apocalypse. So far, I'm liking the series.
I can't wait for the next book. Kate L Mary's zombies are the only one's I read about. I've tried other authors but they're just not as good. Her characters are relatable and the story is always good.
Another great story!!! I can’t wait for the next book!! The only thing that I find weird is all this happens in like 3 weeks time! I feel like it’s been a year!! I can’t wait to see what happens next!!
Excited to see How the story continues. Are they still hunkered down at the hospital? Did Hank ever join for group of young thug's? Does Rowan build her relationship with her dad again? I will find out at I started to read Far from over 😊
I just can't get enough of this series! The characters are slowly adapting to the new world and learning that morals, while good can be shadowed in dark grey when needed. Some lessons are harder than others.
Better from K’s point of view. The original point of view of Ms Goody Two Shoes, overly emotional idiot was just too painful. She needed to be muzzled and told to sit down, and shut up and stop doing dumb things that get people killed.
