READ YOUR OWN HEART – THEN WALK YOUR OWN ROAD
All I wanted was a little reassurance – a glimpse of the future. I shouldn’t have asked.

“I speak from the Realm of the Dead,” Moontouch said. “You will abandon me and your son, again, leaving us to face our enemies alone. I see a White Death, invincible, wasting mighty empires. And innocents, trusting in you, betrayed and abandoned – by you! I see an endless war, your people exhausted, in despair. I see men without minds, killing without remorse, and children without hope, waving the flags of an evil God. I see two madmen, leaders of the forces of light and darkness, locked in a struggle to the death for the future of humanity. You will follow the one, and fight the other, and never know which God you serve. I see you … leaving your mortal flesh, to walk among the dead…”

I learned soon enough that it was all to come true – all of it.

My name is Marshall S. Thomas and I am the author of the six-part Soldier of the Legion science fiction series, set in the far future, and also a second series, Prophet of ConFree. I recently completed writing the sixth book in the second series which will be published in a few months.

I love writing and write for the sheer joy of it. I was turned on to science fiction in the late '50s as a teenager and wanted to write SF from that moment. I didn't have the skills to do it until my early 40s when I began the first series. I had almost completed the series when it dawned on me that I had put so much work into it that I really should try to have it published. An astonishing number of rejection letters followed but as I improved my writing and did plenty of rewriting I finally found my first publisher in Timberwolf Press. I've had other publishers since then, but at present I am independently publishing my books.

I studied at the Georgetown University School of Foreign Service, the University of New Mexico and the University of Miami (Government/International Affairs and History) and then spent 35 years in East Asia. I am currently retired and live in Willliamburg, VA with my wife Kim Lien. We have two children. The first is an arts graduate of Radford University and the second is a biochemistry grad of Virginia Tech now working in NYC.

My first publisher, Timberwolf, also produced a spectacular unabridged, full-cast audio of the first book. The full audio can be found on my newly updated website: https://soldierofthelegion.com.

I now have written a new SF series, Prophet of ConFree. All six books of the Soldier series and the first five books of the Prophet series are available on my website as well as online at the usual places. Please check out my website; it's awesome.

Happy reading! MST.

Finished this one late last night (rather, early this morning), while giving my baby a midnight snack. My gosh, hopefully the next book is the last, because if it keeps going on, Thinker is going to have 10 wives. Right now he's neck and neck with Rand al Thor (Wheel of Time)!

It's interesting how this series has progressed from out and out Aliens action (the non-stop kind) to a more political focus with a lot of undercover work. If anything, I guess this shows a bit of character development...well, maybe it's just story progression, as Thinker really hasn't changed that much as a person throughout the entire series. He's (positively) caring, protective, and loyal, but also (negatively) a Legion fanatic, and overall, despite his name, still mostly does exactly as he's told (being a good soldier).

All I think these days is "poor Priestess."

Anyway, this book is a must-read if you've gone through all of the previous books...there's only the one left: Curse of the Legion! Like all of the other books, this was pretty well written, and I have no complaints. On to the last!

If violence upsets you then do not read any of the Legion books, they are violent. Not Judge Dredd or Joker violent, but still violent. Having said that, they are still great reads and the main character, Thinker, is one that you can get along side of. A soldier, programmed to fight and die, and still managing, somehow, to hold on to his humanity. This is the fifth in the series and I will be starting the sixth very soon. Well written and good characters. Highly recommended.

Started with this one which is third or fourth in the Legion series. I thoroughly enjoyed it and immediately read one and two. Great gritty action packed hard science fiction, although no doubt soon to be a near future reality.

This is the 5th in the franchise. Still loving it. Nice simple death and glory stuff. You just want to keep reading to see how they will get through
