Gravity Happens by Lizzie James was a cute, relatively quick holiday read.
I would say this was more a contemporary romance set at Christmas rather than a Christmas romance. It did play a part throughout the story, but the heart of it all was the angst and romance blooming between two best friends.
Thomas and Lauren have been friends since infancy. Lauren has always loved Thomas but with his playboy ways, her heart was repeatedly broken when he never looked at her in a romantic way. After one too many nights listening to his exploits next door, she decides to move on and THAT is when Thomas begins to notice her.
Truthfully, it bothered me. It took Lauren moving on for Thomas to notice her. And when he did notice her, he started making moves on her while she was with another guy. That wasn't okay in my book. I'm glad Lauren stopped him before they did anything, but it left me a little annoyed with him. And the romance was QUICK. I'm assuming it was because they were best friends but we had all this angst, then the build up, then BAM, everything is perfect.
Overall I did enjoy this quick read. It was in between a novella and a novel, and that definitely worked beneficially for this story. It was just the right pace and length for an afternoon read.
This is a friends to lovers story set around Christmas and was a at times emotional, witty and quick read. This is Lauren and Thomas’s story by new to me author Lizzie James.
Lauren and Thomas have been friends since childhood, he has been there for her through the good times and the bad, but never once has he realized her feelings for him too busy being a playboy and never settling for one woman.
There was angst as Lauren finally decides enough is enough and it is time to move on. It was a little frustrating that Thomas only started to look at Lauren romantically after she walked away and became involved with another man. I enjoyed Ms.James writing style and will look at other books by this author when time permits.
This is the first book I've read by the author and it is beautifully written. I'm definitely going to read more from the author. I loved this best friends to lovers story between Lauren and Thomas. Lauren has always had feelings for the other but it was one-sided. Up until they saw each other in different lights and she is trying to move on from Thomas already. However, is it too late now for Thomas?
Few stories make me fall in love to the point of carrying their story inside my heart for months. Lizzie James is an exceptional writer and this book is proof of that. Thomas and Lauren have been friends since childhood but have never come out and after years they do, taking the risk. I was absorbed in this book, a pleasant and very interesting read, highly recommend it!
4.5 Stars for Gravity Happens. If you love friends to lovers and Christmas romances this book should certainly be on your radar. This is Lauren and Thomas’s story and it’s an entertaining, emotional, quick read that will draw you in from the first page. Thomas has been by Lauren’s side since childhood, they share the good times, the bad times, the happy times and the sad times but one thing they don’t share is feelings because even though Lauren has crushed on her best friend for many years, crossing that line could ruin the special friendship they share. Problem is when Lauren starts dating Thomas suddenly realises what he really wants with the girl who has always been by his side........ I smiled at the witty banter and I swooned at the sizzling chemistry this couple shared abd I’m looking forward to reading more from Lizzie James. This is a fun, magical, entertaining romance that will appeal to wide range of audiences.
Did I risk it all for him and tell him how I felt, or did I cut my losses and move on?
Lauren and Thomas have been friends since they were young and have grown-up together. Now years later, Lauren is not only living with her best friend Thomas but is head over heels in love with him. Only problem is, Thomas will never see her as anything other than Lauren, as his book lover, always there for him best friend.
Wanting to take a leap of faith this Christmas, Lauren decides that she deserves to be kissed under the mistletoe by someone who will share her feelings in return.
Why did he have to wait for me to finally find my own little piece of happiness with someone else before he realised what was always right in front of him the whole time?
As those longer winter days go on, is Lauren starting to regret her choice of waiting for Thomas to make his move?
But, a Christmas gift arrives making Lauren uncertain and questions her future.
“The one time you finally become interested in a woman and she’s the one you can’t have.”
“Can’t have...What do you mean, ‘can’t have’?”
Tall, dark and your typical book worthy playboy ladies man, Thomas will melt not only your hearts...but your knickers!
I wanted her to be mine, and for the first time, I was more than ready to be her. I just had to make her want me again.
Thomas may be a one night only when it comes to women but, he’s got a heart of gold and a soft spot for his lifelong friend Lauren. Lauren is the only girl who truly understands him- and puts up with all his antics. Their friendship changes however, when Lauren goes on a date with fellow colleague and friend Christopher.
It seems a switch has finally flipped-that and the fact that Luke has been drilling in his head for years that Lauren has feelings for him maybe helped...Thomas starts to feeling something he’s never felt before...Jealousy.
“It’s like gravity. You always seem to be drawn to her.”
Thomas knows that this could be his only chance with Lauren and will stop at nothing to finally claim her as his. But, could he be about to lose not only the girl he loves...but his best friend?
I was lying in the wrong man’s arms and that the right one would never want me the way that the wrong man would.
Thomas and Lauren…<3 Are the perfect friends-to-lovers Christmas story! I loved their friendship that they had, the story that was created that worked to the characters and even the side characters were the perfect addition. It was clear that Thomas needed to ‘man-up’ and own up to his feelings for Lauren and clearly he was going to stop at nothing to make Lauren see that he is the man for her.
This story is intertwined with the Safe With You series and holds a little Christmas present that fans will rip open!
I’ve been following Lizzie James for a while, but I’ve never actually had the chance to try her work until this book. It was the cover and blurb that drew me in as it gives you that wintery feel and you can’t help but want to sit in a big comfy chair, with a cup of hot chocolate and curl up with this book. However, I honestly have mixed reviews about the story… Don’t get me wrong, I completely understood the basics of the story and the direction it wanted to go in, but at the same time I thought it was too basic, there didn’t seem to be any thrill, adventure or whatnot… If anything it seemed to be lacking something but I really can’t put my finger on what it is. At the same time I do think that Lizzie did a great job at producing the story as I know it’s not easy to write as I’ve never written a book, so I do appreciate all the hard work that went into creating this story. I found that there was little bits that just didn’t add up at times and to me it seemed like it had been rushed over a little. I understand that not everything is going to be perfect before a release and that there will be a few typos here and there, but the couple of bits I found had a bit of an impact on the story. I also was able to predict what was going to happen from the first chapter, I really dislike books that don’t leave you trying to figure out what’s going to happen, it giving you the chase, and I do think that because of that it did let the story down, but that’s just my personal experience. I did like the overall plot and thought into the story, but honestly I don’t think this is for me. I know for a fact that there’s going to be a lot of people out there that think my opinion isn’t that great as they would have fallen in love with the story, but at the same time we’re all allowed to think differently, we’re all allowed to have our own opinions. But I do strongly encourage you to give this book a try as for all you know, you may discover that you think differently than what I do, or you may find a new author whose work you can just go and devour.
Lauren has been in love with Thomas ever since they were teenagers, but he’s never reciprocated the same feelings back. Starting to get fed up of all the girls that walk in and out of his bedroom she finally decides that it’s time to move on, but this just makes their friendship slip away. Will Thomas realise what’s in front of him or is he always set to see her as just his best friend???
I’m on a bit of a Christmas binge at the moment, so finding a friends-to-lovers Christmas story fit right into my December reading plans.
Lauren and Thomas have been best of friends since, well forever. When Lauren’s parents passed away it just seemed right to Thomas’ mom that she take Lauren and move her into their family and give her a good loving upbringing. Which worked out well for Lauren, not having to go into the foster system and having a sudo-brother in Thomas and a mom who loved her. The problem arises when Lauren and Thomas have grown up. Not only are they best of friends, but roommates as well. At least that is what Thomas believes, always best of friends.
It all changes when Lauren gives into her inner feelings and she admits to herself and another that she has fallen in love with Thomas. Thomas of course has no idea so he is out there being his best, “I’m having a blast while I’m single” time oblivious to Lauren’s feelings.
Of course there is much more to this story. Lizzie James allows Lauren’s character to talk frankly to readers and several characters in the story. She let’s Lauren make her decision on how she can move forward without Thomas. She then puts in place the angst and feelings that Thomas starts to harbor, and then allows them to make decisions.
The biggest thing I enjoyed about this story was there was no “pressure” angst, if you know what I mean. There were tips, conversations, suggestions by friends but I didn’t feel sad, pulled or torn. When I finished, I felt that the time devoted to reading this book was well spent, that the characters were in the right place and happy and it all happened around the Holiday season. During 2020 it was nice to read a sweet romance where everything worked out and I felt satisfied when I was finished. I felt a little more like Christmas!
I received an arc in exchange for an honest review Gravity Happens by Lizzie James is a friends to lovers holiday romance.
Lauren worked as a barista at a coffee shop, her big dream was to go to an art school. She lived with Thomas, her best friend since childhood, and she was in love with him since she was a teenager. Thomas worked at a bar named Dominic along with their other friend Luke. He had no idea about Lauren's feelings and accidentally had broken her heart with his playboy ways. She was waiting for years to be noticed by him but it was time to move on. Luke started dropping hints to Thomas about her but the guy was clueless. Only when she started dating his jealousy was awaken. Was it too late to go after the girl he loved?
It's such a pleasant romance. It's a well-written book told by multiple povs and has nice descriptions. The plot is sweet and easy to follow. It doesn't contain any drama, just a little heartbreak and jealousy to make it a bit spicy and interesting. It's from the books that the romance flows so easily that you can feel something weird coming up, which in this situation it happened. The hint was there from the beginning but I missed it so I was surprised in the end. I loved everything this book had to offer and especially the characters with their chemistry and their bond.
If you are a true romance lover give this book a try, you will not regret it. I highly recommend it and I will rate it with 4.5 stars.
Gravity Happens is your classical Best Friends to Lover Romance which you can settle down and read and come out at the end of it with a smile on your face. However, I must admit at the start of the book I really find it difficult to like Thomas.....I did by a few chapters in but could have thrown something at him a couple of times for just how insensitve he was... but that is what makes you carry on reading if you get that invested in the charachter.
All I can say is thank got for Luke, Lauren and Thomas's friend for showing Thomas what was right under his nose. Lauren has. been in love with Thomas since they were teenagers; they have known each other since they were children but when Lauren's parents die suddenly when she was 16 she went to live with Thomas and his mom.
Lauren and Thomas are now roommates but while Lauren's feelings for Thomas grows he continues to bring women back to their apartment and flunt right under Lauren's nose (see that is why I wanted to throw something at him!)
I was so pleased when Lauren said 'Enough is Enough' and decided to find someone of her own - So what do you think of that Thomas? not a lot if what he does next is anything to go by!
4 1/2 Star Review I enjoyed this read of Lauren and Thomas by Lizzie. Lauren has been friends with Thomas since forever when they were small children. When they're older they move in sharing an apartment together as friends. Lauren has always held a flame for Thomas unfortunately he doesn't see this. Lauren has always been there and he doesn't see her in a romantic sense. Lauren tries to turn a blind eye to all the girls he has staying the night. But she can't let on to Thomas how much this hurts her. Until the day Lauren decides she needs to move on Thomas is never going to see the love she has for him. When Lauren starts seeing someone now Thomas sits up and takes notice getting jealous. I received an ARC for NNBB. If you love friends to lovers romance with some angst thrown in you will love this one.
Thomas and Lauren have been best friends since school. He’s never realized that she has a crush on him. When she finally gives up and starts to date someone else, his feelings of jealousy get in the way. Opinion This is a sweet friends to lovers romance. Lauren is a sweet but innocent woman. Thomas is a nice man who dates around. Their friend, Luke, is a well intentioned busy body. I liked Thomas and Lauren’s characters and Luke’s, to some extent. Like did press my nerves a bit with his nosy self. I love this troupe and it was written well. I have a bit of a hard time believing that forgiveness was given so quickly from Christopher. (He is who Lauren dated, trying to get over Thomas.) Overall, the book was interesting and I did enjoy it. It is a cute Christmas read. Many thanks to the author, Lizzie James, for providing me with an ARC of this book.
Aaaawe🥺🥺🥺 This is such a sweet Christmas story❤️ Thomas is a player, he often have a new girl in his bed. But even though he is a really good guy, he falls in love with his best friend, tries to be patient with her, while she is dating a common friend of them.
Lauren a sweet and innocent woman, who is in love with his childhood best friend. Lauren lost her parents when she was 16, so She came to live with Thomas and his mother. Lauren never believes she and Thomas can be anything more than friends. But then something happens, and for the first time in history they give their relationship a chance.
Lizzie James has written an amazing book, a beautiful story and as always she deserves a 5star plus for this book. I recommend this book to absolutely EVERYONE!!!
Thomas & Lauren have been best friends for a long time, and she's carried around the fact that she loves him more than a friend even though he never looked at her that way & is a gross player. They're roommates so she's finally over all the different girls constantly in & out in her face, so she's decided it's time to move on & find her own happiness. Guess what happens?! He finally sees her, which is why I didn't warm to him at all because he's absolutely clueless & didn't deserve her whatsoever. I absolutely LOVED Lauren, and she deserved a guy who actually sees her before she moves on. Anyway, I'll get off my soapbox now because this is only my opinion, so please decide for yourselves, especially since I still didn't put it down despite all the rage so I'm HIGHLY RECOMMENDING!
This is a friend to lovers story. And a feel good book. Thomas, Luke, Christopher and Lauren have been friends for years. Thomas and Lauren met when they were kids, Thomas took her home and that is where she stayed. As they got older they shared a place together, Lauren had fallen for Thomas but he was clueless, sleeping with whoever he liked when he liked. After time Lauren decides that he will never look at her the way she wants him to. After years of other men and even there friends asking her on a date she decides that she will ask Christopher out, he says yes. After Luke telling Thomas how she felt Thomas started to get jealous and he vowed to get her. Luke seems to be the voice of reason, when things start to heat up. Absolutely loved these characters.
When best friends, Lauren and Thomas see their friendship from opposite sides of the jealousy scale all bets are off. They have known each other since they were kids, running around the neighborhood, spending time at each other's homes, sharing their deepest darkest secrets, and never once considering life without the other. Now as adults their relationship is tested when unwanted feelings arise as the green eyed monster makes an appearance. Will Lauren take a chance and finally say yes? How will Thomas react when the tables have turned? A heart-warming Christmas romance with delightful characters!
Thomas and Lauren have been best friends since childhood, and Lauren has loved him since she was a teenager, but her feeling was never reciprocated, and when they end up as roommates her patience is pushed to the limit with his revolving door of girls, and she decides enough is enough it is time to move on. As their friendship is starting to slip away Thomas finally notices Lauren, but is it too late? This is a good story and the only downside in my opinion only, is that I struggled to engage with the characters, however, I look forward to reading more from this talented author.
Lauren and Thomas are best friends and have been all their lives. Lauren has been in love with Thomas but he continues to break her heart with his playboy ways and keeping her locked in the friendship zone. She finally decides it's time to get over him and move on. Thomas starts to feel her slip away and notices that she's dating and that doesn't settle well with him. Has Thomas woken up to what he feels for her too late?

What a beautiful short friends to lovers story by Lizzie James! Lauren and Thomas have been best friends for as long as they can remember. They've been through it all together.. the god the bad the ugly.. so how will Lauren cope when she finally realises that her changing feelings towards Thomas will never be returned? Thomas has always viewed Lauren as a friend only...but whats that niggling emotion that he feels when she starts dating someone else? Easy to read short story with likeable characters set around Christmas time.
Lauren and Thomas have a bit of a rocky friends-to-lovers romance. When they finally admit their feelings towards each other it isn't the easy road they thought it would be. I enjoyed this short read, it definitely brought some holiday cheer with the Christmas setting in London. There were a lot of exclamation points that kept throwing me out of the story but the writing was easy. Some parts of the story didn't add up and sometimes left me slightly confused but these two had a sweet romance that was easy to dive into and enjoy.
Another beautifully written story by Lizzie. The plot set at Christmas time spans the best friend to lovers tale of Lauren and Thomas. I loved this book and it was the perfect story to read snuggled up with a blanket on the run up to Christmas. Lizzie is one of my favourite authors and I am never disappointed with her books and although this story was a bit different than Lizzies usual style I still thoroughly enjoyed every word.
I loved this story of best friend's to lovers. Which is what Lauren and Thomas have always been. One of them had always harboured feelings for the other but it wasn't reciprocated, until they decided to move on, then they saw them them in a different light and went all out to let them know. It all turns out for the best. I love the way that Lizzie writes, it's so easy to read and just flows. I'd definitely recommend this book and any others that Lizzie has written 😍😍
This is a sweet best friends to lovers romance between Thomas and Lauren. The author brings strong characters with a fun banter and strong characters. Set during the Christmas season, she delivers an emotional story with descriptive writing and perfectly painted scenes. She pulled me in from start to finish reading and I enjoyed their story.
I voluntarily reviewed an ARC of this book. All opinions in this review are my own and freely given.
The book is a good cute, and is a relatively quick holiday romance read. The story has a good story line, and it was well written read. The characters are good, and they have good chemistry. The story is an enjoyable sweet friends to lovers romance read.

Lauren and Thomas are best friends in love with each other but afraid to do something about it not to ruin their friendship. This is a good story to read and get away from this pandemic reality a bit. I enjoyed it very much.

This was a sweet story about Lauren and Thomas that have been friends since kids and she has been in love with him ever since. He of course doesn’t feel the same until well he starts to see her with different eyes. A quick and enjoyable read, however I wished that the heroine would have made him work harder wooing her.
Friends to lover story set during Christmas time, A story that hooks you from the beginning, Love the Chemistry between them, Emotional read that will pull you in more into the story.
Lauren and Thomas has been friends through so much in their life's and she has developed a crush on him but he is too busy being a playboy to notice. When she finally decides to move on and start dating he finally realizes that he has feelings for her but is he too late to get the girl.
Thomas and Lauren have been best friends forever. Thomas has always been there through everything for Lauren but will he ever figure out what she really wants?
