Two pretty hot stories by two authors who know their way around an erotic scene...

Nauti Kisses by Lora Leigh

No new ground broken in the final chapter of LL’s Nauti series. This time it’s Rogue’s (Nauti Deceptions) brother, the Boston lawyer John Walker Jr.’s story. John breaks up with his cold socialite fiancee after a family friend outs her for sleeping with John’s best friend. John’s been having second (and third) thoughts about the wants-no-sex-from-him Marlena, so petite young Sierra Lucas has actually done him a favor. Sierra, who’s always had a thing for the older John, comes to his penthouse to apologize, and a drunk John acts on his long desire for the curvy, dark haired beauty with the undeserved reputation for playing the field. After plenty of foreplay that rocks the innocent Sierra’s world, a drunken John passes out just as he takes her virginity. Sierra flees, angry, hurt, and confused, and later avoids John. John retreats to his father’s old stomping grounds in Somerset, Kentucky, to regroup and get a handle on his life and what he wants. A year passes, and John gets a phone call that Sierra has been hurt, and nearly raped. This was no random act--someone is out to hurt Sierra. But who, and why? John is devastated that he left Sierra alone--he vows to protect her until the man who brutalized her is caught. But does John want more than to just protect Sierra?

Not as much arguing and sniping in this one--maybe because it was a short story so there just wasn’t enough time. LL follows her tried and true formula of woman in distress, big alpha male on protection duty, lots of hot lovin’ as the couple tries to figure out their relationship (Sierra is miffed that John doesn't remember her 'deflowering'), lots of miscommunication and stubborn refusal to just talk out the problem, followed by attempt on H/h’s life by a vengeful lunatic. A sweet little HEA including all the Mackays and their offspring, and you have the conclusion of the Nauti series. If this was the first of the series that I read, I would’ve been blown away (okay, maybe not blown away, but impressed). But since this was the, what, 6th, it seems like I’ve read it all before, only the names have been changed. Not bad, just nothing new. 3 ½ stars

Riding The Edge by Jaci Burton

The latest in JB's Wild Riders series, finds federal agent Rick Benetti on what he considers a 'babysitting' assignment. He has to go undercover to protect a Nevada senator's daughter who has taken to riding with the notorious Hellraisers bike gang. The fact that Rick used to ride with this same gang ten years ago, before his life turned around and he became one of the good guys, and that his cousin Bo is the leader of the gang, make it more interesting. Rick must infiltrate the gang, to see just what the senator's daughter (Ava Vargas) is up to-- and if it could affect national security.

Beautiful graduate student/future social worker Ava Vargas has decided to link up with the Hellraisers because she's worried about her best friend Lacey. Lacey's been her friend since childhood, but recently she's ditched her academic life to hang with her new boyfriend Bo and travel around with his motorcycle gang. Ava wants to see if she can convince Lacey to return to what she left behind--she was pursuing a career in psychology. But in order to spend any time with Lacey, she'll have to hang out with the Hellraisers too.

When Rick meets Ava, there's an instant physical connection, but Rick must remind himself that Ava's just an assignment. But once they start spending time together, it gets harder and harder to do. Their attraction turns physical (starting with some red hot phone sex), and both Rick and Ava discover feelings that they've never had before. Rick has never been in love, and doesn't believe in it due to his messed up childhood in foster care. The orderly and cautious Ava has never felt this way about another person--being with tall, dark and muscular (and wildly experienced) Rick is intensely freeing and liberating. But Rick is a loner--would he accept someone like Ava in his life?

This was a pretty good, hot story. Rick was caught in a dilemma--could he bring down the only family he ever had (Bo) even if he's up to no good? Does he admit to Ava who he really is, even if it blows his cover? Could a relationship between two people from such wildly different backgrounds ever work?

I liked Rick and Ava (especially Ava). I appreciated the lengths that Ava was willing to go through to help her friend. I felt that maybe Rick was a little detatched, and maybe not as into Ava as she was to him. I wanted him to have more of an "I-can't-live-without-her" feeling though. It must have been because of his upbringing that he wasn't able to really lose control of his emotions and put his heart out there. I did enjoy the little speech he made to Ava when he realized they belonged together (thank you General Grange Lee for giving Rick a kick in the pants when he needed it). Not my favorite of the series, but a pretty decent, enjoyable read. 4 stars

I love the Nauti Series! This book was shorter, but it was just as good as the others. I loved it. It was fast paced and the sex scenes were to die for!!! Another great read.

The Nauti story was just ok for me. I think it was one story too many. The sex was hot of course, but the story fell short for me. I think this is because I don't really go for short stories. The relationships don't grab me like they would if I had a whole book to get hooked.

Having said that though, I actually really like the Wild Riders story. I liked Rick and Ava a lot and wouldnt have minded a whole book on them.

With novellas from Lora Leigh and Jaci Burton, this is certainly one hot and steamy book! I enjoyed both stories, though neither was perfect.

Nauti Kisses by Lora Leigh

Series Note:
Sixth and final story in Leigh's "Nauti" series. Probably should read the series in order but I think you can get enough from this one for it to make sense.

Summary:
John Walker, Jr (brother of Rogue from an earlier book) escapes to Kentucky after an engagement goes bust - courtesy of finding out his fiance is sleeping with his best friend from his father's goddaughter, Sierra. John's always had a secret lust for Sierra, but he reminds himself she's practically family and too young. But the night he finds out his fiance cheated, he gets drunk and sleeps with Sierra. She runs afterward and John moves to Kentucky. But then Sierra is attacked and almost killed. John has her brought to Kentucky where he can protect her and both can face the feelings they have for each other.

Review:
I liked most parts of this book. It was steamy, had a decent storyline for a novella, brought back the unforgettable McKays and all that. It's definitely a sexy story to read and I enjoyed it - except for the way the characters acted half the time. I got annoyed by both of them.

First, with Sierra, she gets all offended that John doesn't remember they slept together and pulls that "well if you don't know then I'm not going to tell you crap" UGH. Okay, yeah, it sucks he banged you, passed out, and doesn't remember. But there were two people on that couch that night, honey. You knew he was total hammered yet you let him whip it out anyway. So don't go getting all pissed off when he passes out and forgets. That just drove me nuts.

Then with John, when he brings Sierra to Kentucky he finally realizes he wants her and plans to keep her. But does her tell her that? No. He goes all caveman and tells her if she's in his bed she better plan on getting fucked. So Sierra thinking she's just a toy because he wants to get some and he's thinking of forever. Why couldn't he just tell her he'd come to his senses and didn't plan to let her go?

These two had some serious communication problems and it got annoying as the story went on. But it didn't ruin the story. Just made it frustrating. I liked everything else about it.

Rating:
3.5 / 5

Riding the Edge by Jaci Burton

Series Note:
Fourth book in Burton's "Wild Riders" series. I think you could read it as a standalone.

Summary:
When Wild Riders agent Rick Benetti gets an assignment to find out why a senator's daughter is hanging out with a biker gang, he thinks it'll be a boring babysitting assigment. But the first time he meets Ava Vargas, he wants her. The two can't resist each other. Unfortunately, Rick can't tell her who he really is or that the biker gang they are hanging with, run by Rick's cousin, are likely drug dealers. Neither counted on falling in love, but when Rick's case is over, will they have a future together?

Review:
I really like this series. Hot bikers, secret government agents, steamy sex. What's not to like, LOL. It's a great series set up. And I enjoyed this addition. I liked the premise of the story...Ava's trying to find out why her best friend's gone whacky, dropped out of school and joined a biker gang, Rick's trying to make sure a senator's daughter hasn't gone rogue, and they're falling in love in the process. It worked as a storyline. Rick and Ava have great chemistry and some steamy sex.

The one part of the story I thought could have been better was the ending. I thought everything worked out too smoothly. With the snap of a finger all the problems get solved much to easily. There needed to be a bit more tension and angst, at least in my opinion. But that's really the only criticism I have of the whole story. Otherwise, I liked it a lot.

4 / 5

Overall Rating:
4 / 5

WARNING, this book contains: explicit sex and language, oral sex, drunken sex, rough sex, group sex (not featuring h/h), f/f sex (not featuring h/h), a little ass play, some voyeurism, etc.

I love the wild riders!! In fact, I want to be part of their group living on the edge, fighting for justice- a little shady, and burning up the road with one of the alpha bikers. Riding the Edge seemed more tame to me than the other books in the series I have read. But I still loved it. Rick is such a sexy, hot alpha with a heart so big I wanted to crawl just right up in it. Ava is a sexy, sweet girl that has a fatal flaw of looking out for others and putting herself last. Her journey was much too short and I would have loved to read a longer version of Ava and Rick.

Nauti Kisses is John and Sierra's story. I have not really read it yet. I skimmed it- thinking about reading it after I catch up with the Nauti books in front of it. Then again- it doesn't really seem to need to read in order. Since I read the last couple of chapters & know what's going to happen.

Edited:

I read Nauti Kisses and was not disappointed. A story of two people that have a past history that never ended - even with separation and misunderstanding. John begins as a reluctant alpha but fire him up and he is straight up hard core alpha. I am sorry the series had ended but all good things must end. How else am I to experience all books if I can't finish a series.

Ok read. I didn't read Nauti #6 sooner because I normally didn't like books H forgot he slept with h. However, this book was not as bad as I thought … yes, I did get annoyed when H hinted all the time that h had had many lovers while he was non-virgin himself. Totally Double standard. Still, I liked the hot plot and to see characters from previous books.

Wow.
Where to start?
First. I did not read any other books from these series. I actually didn't realize that what I was picking up was a book that wrapped up 2 other series until I read the first page. I simply looked at the cover said 'Wow, he's smokin' hot' decided I'd never read about bikers before and bought it. What can I say? I'm a sucker for covers and this one has a stone cold fox on it.
So....Nauti. Nauti Kisses: I have a few issues with Nauti. The first, is that John is kind of a dick, and not in an even remotely forgivable way. What do I mean? The man tells the woman he 'loves' who was just brutally attacked and nearly raped that she doesn't have a choice, she's sleeping in his bed and he'll do what he wants to her, when he wants to do it and there isn't a damn thing she's going to do about it. And no, I'm not exaggerating, I'm serious.
There was also a lot of repetitive ideas in this story, things that are said over and over, like Sierra reminding readers about the night John took her virginity and how angry she was about it, how upset John was about Sierra walking away, over and over, and both of their insecurities, really drove me nuts.
Much of the dialog in this story also felt forced, like really forced. It was choppy, immature, cheesy and a lot of it was completely awkward. I had a hard time reading some of this.
A few things I did like about this story, John's dedication to Sierra, his protective nature and the fact that she was in need and he didn't even blink, he was there. I also liked the setting, though it wasn't really built much, but the idea of the boat and the southern family values was nice.
It was hot and steamy, believable (other than the fact that if this woman was bruised to the bone like that author made her she probably wouldn't be doing 3/4 of this) and incredibly visual. If you're looking for a read that will leave you begging for more (book or not) then this story is juuuuust fine.

And Wild. Riding the Edge:
Love these characters. There was some repetition here too with Ava and her constantly going over her worry for Lacey in the exact words we just heard 20 pages ago, but the relationship between herself and Rick, while a little rushed, was genuine feeling. I loved the way they cared for each other, the inspiring conversations and advice and the sweetness in the moments they shared. However, it wasn't all sappy and I also loved the total badassery of Rick and the hot was super spicy, yum.
I especially loved how much of a gentleman Rick is when he isn't being completely drool worthy in every way that has to do with the naked human body. In many stories such as this we don't get to see gentlemen so Rick was utterly and completely refreshing. But on the flip side we saw a man who isn't afraid to tell it how it is, how he wants it and get a little rough, tough and down and dirty, while still striving to satisfy before being satisfied.
This story seemed to actually have a plot that grabbed my attention as well. There was more going on in the story than just guy meets girl and everything now revolves around whom is more turned on than the other. Much less cheesy dialog than in Nauti and the story was more believable. The ending, while predictable, was also a bit more heartfelt as well. I can see their story happening, I just couldn't settle on the end of Nauti Kisses.

Overall I would say that Nauti would be more like 3 stars with Riding the Edge more at 4 stars. I'm definitely going to be picking up more Jaci Burton books, but probably not another Lora Leigh.

Okay, I give the first story "Nauti Kisses" 4 stars and the 2nd story "Riding the edge" 3 stars. Giving this book an overall rating of 4 1/2 stars.

Lora Leigh's "nauti kisses" was predictable @ best. A little cheesy @ worst. But the chemistry between John and Sierra was HOT! to say the least. Although predictable, the plot was pretty good. I do LOVE how these hard core men view not only the women in their lives, but women in general. And they recognize what a precious treasure it is to not only know or have love in their lives, but to protect it. Guard it with their very own. If anything this story reminds me how they just don't make 'em' like they use to. (Men) LOL! I do recommend this read if you are a fan of Lora's or the Nauti series. This was my first time reading the Nauti series. I'm inclined to check out the others ;~)

Now Jaci Burton's "Riding the edge" IMO was just okay. I mean it was interesting enough although very predictable as well. But the chemistry with Rick & Ava, was just Luke warm to me. I see how these two could form a bond so to speak, but love and undeniable passion? I didn't feel it. Some of their "encounters" were hot, but the emotional aspect just was not there. I found I was way more interested in the outcome with Rick and his cousin and how he would explain to Ava why he was in her life in the 1st place. Their HEA, I was found wanting. But the story as a whole was pretty good.

I liked both stories but really loved Burton's Riding on the Edge. Ava's a badass even if she is on the preppy side and her best friend needed an ass kicking on a righteous level. Rick was very likable even more so because he liked Ava as sex kitten and insecure/out of her depth. Everyone wants to be viewed as hot and adorable by the person they like. And you get that in spades with these two.

On the other hand, Nauti Kisses, made me want to smack somebody. He, John, took her virginity and he doesn't remember doing it. You, Sierra, tried to seduce a drunk man and then you get mad and hurt because he doesn't remember. You dumb ass! She's the type of chick who gives all women, gay or straight and everything inbetween, a bad rep. Why would you try to seduce a drunk man? You want a special and perfectly memorable experience? Try sobriety! Then to make matters worse, she keeps dropping hints that he did something wrong but won't say what. Really, no for real, REALLY! Even the sex scenes felt wrong. They felt like coercion. Coercion is violating. Enough said.

A good read with two stories from Lora Leigh and Jaci Burton. Nauti Kisses is about John and Sierra who have been friends for years. But John has no clue that Sierra is in love with him. When Sierra is the one who informs John that his fiancee is cheating on him. They end up in bed together. But John passes out (from drinking too much) before they finish and has no memory of how far they really took things. They a year later Sierra is brutally attacked and John brings her under his protection. The second story is Riding the Edge with Rick and Ava. Rick is undercover with a biker gang when he meets Ava. She is there to try and pull her best friend out of this gang. As Rick and Ava become involved she has no idea that Rick's assignment is watching out for her since she is the daughter of a famous politician.

Liked reading about the Nauti children, hoping we would get more of how the Nauti men were as dads...didn't happen. This is John and Sierra's tale and John is Rogue's brother. Sierra has been attacked and almost raped and of course the one thing that will heal her only two weeks after the attack is of course John's brand of sexual healing. Lora Leigh has provided her usual eye-rolling sexcapades as only she can do it. I don't read LL for the depth of feeling or writing, strictly for the fun.

Oh boy! Just when you thought the Mackays were out of this world, along comes John Calvin Walker, Jr. Poor Sierra never has a chance! A quick and dirty read that features cameos from the Mackays and others. A great, action packed novella that I hope is not the end of the series.

The Wild Wilders series is new to me so to know that the story contained in this book is the fourth in the series may have me looking up the other three. Another action packed story that involves motorcycles, drug dealers, and government operatives, oh my! I really liked this story and I hope to read more from the author really soon.

This is John and Seirra's story.

Heather's Notes
I read this book only for the LL story. I have not read the Jaci Burton series and while I tried to get into the story, I ended up skipping most of it. I liked LL's story, but felt it would have been much better as a for length book. There were a lot of things that were rush or brushed over. Still over all it was a good story.

Read this as part of my yearly foray into the romance genre for Valentine’s Day. I’m definitely not the target audience for this book- so take my review with a grain of salt.

No plot. Flat characters. Unrealistic “story”. Plus I’m not interested in bad boys so that doesn’t help either. Second story was better than the first by a mile, but only because there was a semblance of plot.
