Reminded me of Paul Arden's book. Here are some gems:
"There are no victims, just volunteers."
"Amateurs prescribe. Experts diagnose."
"It's not a dream project if the client isn't willing to pay you a dream price."
"All companies have customers. Lucky companies have fans. But the most fortunate companies have audiences." Jason Fried and David Hansson, Rework (customers, you have to pay to get their attention; an audience happily gives you theirs time and attention)
"Networking is who you know. Influence is who knows you."
"Income rarely exceeds personal development." Jim Rohn
"We want to have certainties and no doubts--results and no experiments--without even seeing that certainties can arise only through doubt and results only through experiment." Carl Jung
Quibble: Ideas alone are not worthless. Try executing a shitty idea, as has been done throughout history (think communism, socialism).
A great little book of pockets of wisdom ranging from personal relationships, creativity, to business and personal mindset. In this, you get to see the source of Chris' beliefs and how he has applied it and tailored it for himself and his business. My copy of the book is riddled with stickies for great quotes and pieces for further research and I get the sense that I will be coming back for more.
It delivered exactly what it promises in the title and summary: bite-sized lessons from self-help books with a focus on motivation and inspiration for creatives and designers. The book is filled with valuable insights and tips on how to improve your mindset and overcome obstacles as a creative professional. The author does a great job of providing practical advice and relatable examples to help readers apply the lessons to their own lives.
However, I found the books to be a bit repetitive at times and some of the quotes, lessons felt quite generic. Additionally, I would have appreciated more depth and elaboration on some of the topics covered in the book. A useful, inspiring read for creatives and designers looking for a quick boost of motivation.
This is not a good book. I was skeptical when I saw the previews of it, and the reviews of it felt very bandwagon. In the end I opted for the e-book version of it.
I understand the idea behind the book is to have little blurbs that get to the point. I still believe it missed the mark. If you want a book full of bad self help anecdotes the used book store is full of them for much cheaper. This book doesn't flow. I know some will say "well you're not supposed to JUST read it." That is fine and all but there is little context within the content to have a thought session around.
Each section is poorly structured, and the titles are lossly related to the content. In fact on several occasionas I had to go back and remind myself what I was reading about.
Better quotes, better examples, better structure, and better word choice is needed to make this BOOK worth 35 dollars. I understand it's beautiful, but it's still a book in the end and should fullfil that need before all else.
All in all this was like reading someones brain dump. If you know what a brain dump is you know that the only person who really benefits from reading it is the person who wrote it.
No matter if you are self taught, fresh out of University/design school, or a seasoned vet in today’s creative economy this book will gift you an abundance of knowledge to go forth an expand on and a indestructible confidence. Chris’s ability to distill the whole gamut of business, design, personal growth and mindset into an easily digestible dialogue is masterful. Pocket Full Of Do is the product, if Blair Enns, Marty Neumeier & Sadhguru were to have a love child.
As a Designer and an Introvert this book let me face the world without fear as I fear so much lol.. Thank you Chris for Publishing your book it helps me alot.
This is a book written by a designer for designers and creative people. Simply put, it's a treasure trove of ideas gathered in over two decades. Full of notes to jot down now!
One of those bathroom books containing little pieces of universal self-help inspirational junk. Some people eat this crap up. I find it annoying and bullshity.
Good book with visual pages. Chris surely doesn't disappoint with either of his eyes for beauty and knowledgable past.
However, this book is more like a tool for freshly graduated students. There are useful information to deal with clients here and there, but most of them are mentioned on his Youtube or in his courses already. If you're a long-time fan of Chris, you might find all of them familiar. No doubt.
He also shares about his experience, past, some parts feel like an autobiography with motivational life quotes. I reckon I'd be happy to buy 2 separate books on 2 different things: work or life. But if he combines into one, it feels too much to switch. Like reading his Instagram page, all are mixed up.
As another reviewer said, this is a quick recharge tool.
Chris Do is my fave Guru at all times. He walks the talks.
I wish I had a teacher like him in my early life, this book is the great summary of all Chris teaching throughout the years in the most compact way yet Super Powerful.
This quick bites book is a great daily reminder when you're feeling stuck and uninspired, this book is your get to go book.
Beware of High Dose of Inspiration & Motivation Booster.
I really enjoyed that book, it is a very fast recap for the great things to achieve your goals in business and life. I have finshed all the chapter in the first 2 days after purchase, paused for a while and completed the last chapter of Mindset after a couple of month.
What i really liked the most is that he quotes from the best people in life and industry which create a great large exposure about the potential mentors you can learn from.
If you're a fan of The Futur, this book gives a high-level overview of some of Chris Do's main talking points from that channel and ties them into one book. There are plenty of quotes and references to further readings and ideas you can explore after reading. I enjoyed the Seth Godin style designs that accompanied each sort riff. One I'll keep around the office for a while.
A concise collection of all of Chris Do's advice for creative business owners. As a sales and negotiation consultant for UX agencies, I found this book extremely useful and thought-inspiring. It synthesizes all of the lessons they have on thefutur's channel into a very easy to digest and consult manual.
This is a great resource for any designer, entrepreneur, self-employed creative. Each thread is a concept with an eye-catching visual and a concept to chew on. It is broken down into sections so you can easily reference what you’re looking for. So much knowledge to glean from.
I just love this book! very direct and easy to digest. With Chris explaining his experience through simple message + minimalist illustration. An eye-opener for us designers, not only able to produce design, but we need to know how to sell ourselves. Must read for every designers!
There's no new information if you're an old follower.. Chris provide us with his success formula within these bites size writings of Chris do's recharging power will definitely elevate you to a new mindset
The TikTok remixing tool brought in the shape of a book. The volume is not meant to help you, even if you might find it shelved in the self-help section. Yet it is self-help for the author. The advice does not flow, and it is a rehash of the popular books of the day.
The book was not bad but not anything I hadn't heard before. It's a good book for people who don't read business books or self-help. It's short. I love Chris Do's interview but I'd skip the book. Mostly rehash of conventional wisdom.
Fantastic collection of wisdom from Chris Do. It touches on everything from business and negotiation to mindset. Chris is one of those guys that comes off as transparent with where he started, and the way he shares what he knows just sticks.
