A Guy for Christmas

Rate this book
Dear Santa, Please can you send me a guy for Christmas? Someone kind, good-looking, sweet … but who knows what he’s doing? ( If you get my meaning ;-) ) You must know SO MANY people. Surely you can give someone a shove in my direction? I ’m serious here!
I need your help. I ’m eighteen and I’m a virgin. That doesn ’t sound bad, right? Well, in my little town, most of the guys I went to school with are getting a lot of action. And bragging about it. They have their pick of girls. Only thing is? I don ’t want a girl. And gay or bi guys are pretty thin on the ground around here. Hell, the only gay guy I know of for sure is my neighbor, Mr. Quentin, but he ’s ‘ancient’. He has to be at least thirty. Not that he isn’t hot - don’t get me wrong, he’s smoking! He was the coolest teacher ever, but he’s not gonna be interested in a guy my age. Anyway, Santa …. I know you’re kinda busy right now, but if you could spare a thought for my little problem, I’d be eternally grateful. Thanks, Santa. Robin P.S. I know I made it sound like it’s all about popping my cherry, but a little Christmas romance would be great too. So no guys with snow where their hearts should be, okay? I want ALL the feelz. P.P.S On second thoughts, make that a lot of romance. But be careful, okay, Santa? I want a guy who ’ll steal my heart, not break it.

I absolutely loved this romance. There's not a single thing about it I didn't like.

I quite like age gap romances, but the young guy being 18 (and barely legal) can be quite a difficult subject. Still, this was done so well!!

Thanksgiving. 18 year old Robin decides to come out to his parents. So far so good, they are supportive and no big drama.

But Robin also wants to do something about being gay. As in, finally have sex. Only, he doesn't know any gay people. Oh wait, there's one. His twin brother Ryan's art teacher, Mr Quentin.

So when Mr Quentin comes to Robin's dad's workshop to order a new canoe, Robin takes a good look at him and - wow - wouldn't that be the PERFECT guy to 'be gay' with?!

Encouraged by his eternally horny twin brother, Robin throws himself at the 32 year old man and wears him down.

Not only is the sex phenomenal, but Robin and Dean click and work so well together that they become a couple 'on the fly', long before they realize that 'hey, this isn't sex only, as we initially thought'.

Perfectly sweet.

I was smitten with the way Dean treated Robin. You might expect that Robin comes along acting like an older guy and just being 18 in theory, but that isn't the case here. Robin is more or less still a kid, living with his parents and abiding by their wishes. Therefore, he keeps Dean a huge secret, digging his own grave deeper and deeper until there is no way he can hide what's going on from his folks anymore .

Dean was not only understanding of Robin's emotions, he let him make decisions and treated him like an equal, never - and this is so important for me - never patronizing him. I absolutely hate when this happens in an age gape relationship. I mean, having a daddy can be hot, but when he's becoming an actual 'father', it gets scary.

Robin still has a lot of growing to do. And yet, his interests and his demeanor believably made him an interesting partner for an older guy, not just in the bedroom. I really liked that about the story.

Their actual LOVE was so believable and I felt so happy for Robin, seeing that his first sexual experience was not only an incredibly positive one, but even led to a stable relationship. And the dramatic climax was so spot on, too. An all around captivating story.

Love conquered everything here.

description

Watching these two guys was a real joy. May they live happily ever after.

I know, this is categorized as a Christmas romance - which it undeniably is - but I had the most wonderful time reading this.

Don't miss out on this book :-)

5 stars and a favorite!

This is hard to rate. It was cute and sweet. But I had a hard time connecting with the characters, and honestly got a little bored. I think I don’t mesh well with this author’s writing.

I really liked Dean and Robin. But having everyone treating Robin like a child was really unsettling. I don’t understand his parents. They have two twins, one off at college doing whatever he wants, and the other living at home having to ask for permission for everything? It just didn’t make sense to me.

And I get why they freaked out about Dean, but then I was expecting more angst and a less quick resolution. It felt like fake drama. And the dad coming to talk to Dean about Robin felt again like Robin was a child.

And there was so much sex, and not much else to the relationship.

Ugh. I think I need to remember this author is not for me.

Just in time for Christmas, K.C. Wells delivers A Guy for Christmas. This sweet, funny, sexy holiday romance will curl your toes and make you smile.

If the thought of a smokin’ older guy sweetly romancing an innocent younger guy is your idea of hot, then Dean is the ideal “teacher”. Robin flips the script in this one though, and sets his cap for the sexy arts teacher from his former high school. Taking the initiative to ensure his first sexual experience is a good one, Robin comes straight out and asks Dean to pop his cherry!

We get the whole story from Robin’s perspective, and his fresh and honest approach to everything he encounters kept me laughing out loud. K.C. Wells’ ability to get inside the mind of an eighteen-year-old, bare his innermost thoughts, and share his reactions to everything he’s experiencing, is absolutely charming.

Filled with wonderful secondary characters, A Guy for Christmas has a colorful and amusing cast. Dean’s friends are supportive and charming, and I got such a kick out of Robin’s family. I immensely enjoyed the relationship Robin has with his twin Ryan. These two boys share a unique bond and the push-pull of their competitive natures comes out in all of their interactions. They’re as completely opposite as two brothers can be.

When the family drama focuses on Robin’s parents, K.C. Wells doesn’t shy away from the confrontations between Robin and his folks. From their loving and humorous reaction to his coming out, and the obvious closeness they share, quite realistically Robin’s parents are concerned by the changes in his life. Most specifically, they’re worried about the age of his new man.

I appreciate the honest and realistic reactions of the family to Robin’s new relationship. We get heart to heart talks between the mom and dad, between each parent and Robin, and most importantly between Robin and his twin. Ryan himself is definitely doing some soul searching over some of the things he’s discovering, and I’d love to get his story… possibly for next Christmas?

K.C. Wells’ versatility as a writer never fails to amaze me. From the hottest erotica, to intense hurt/comfort, to the joy and humor we find in this first-time love story, I can always count on her stories to be entertaining. Put A Guy for Christmas on your read shelf because this adorable romance novel is a keeper.

A Guy for Christmas is a cute, Christmasy, and sexy story featuring an 18-year-old virgin (the horror!) and a 32-year-old high school art and drama teacher.

Dean was never Robin's teacher, but he taught Robin's twin brother, Ryan. Robin used to stare at the sexy teacher and can't pass up the opportunity when Dean orders a custom canoe from Robin's father. Robin decides Dean is the perfect candidate to take his virginity.

Robin is the one who pursues Dean initially, but Dean barely spares a second to consider the age gap and the fact that Robin barely graduated high school before he gives into Robin's advances.

To be fair, the men have more in common than just great chemistry. They both have an interest in art and museums. They like to ski and canoe. They talk and have fun together. The author does a good job developing the relationship even though the story spans but a few weeks between Thanksgiving and Christmas.

While the age gap didn't bother me per se, Robin's life situation did. Yes, Robin is 18 and technically legal. Yes, he's no longer a high school student. But he lives with his parents and works for his dad. In order to see Dean, he has to lie to his parents who are constantly up in his business.

Even when I was in my 20s, I would never had dated a barely legal kid who still lived at home, never mind when I was in my 30s. Even if Robin were 20 to Dean's 34, I would feel differently. Maybe if Robin were in college and more independent from his parents, I could have gone with it. But as it stood, I couldn't fathom how a grownass man could date a teenager, despite all they had in common.

If a dude in his 30s showed up to date my 18-year-old son or daughter, I would not be cool with it, so I could relate to Robin's dad not approving of the match when Robin was finally forced to admit the truth.

Anyway, if you can get over that, you'll enjoy the story more than I did. It's quite steamy and ends with a HFN.

Not going to rate this because ... I brought it to myself, really. I mean, I don't like the whole "virgin and learning all the joy of sex" trope. However, I was curious because some of the reviews said that this one was sweet and the romance was good, in addition to the sex.

BUT, the sex was WAY TOO MUCH for me, I ended up skipping so many pages. Just when I want to try liking the characters, the sex session (either self-inflicted or not) began again. I really didn't bloody care.

So yeah, again, I should've known. No rate because it's not fair to the book.

It's that time of the year again when I'm watching A Holiday or Love Actually or Drei Maenner im Schnee … so it doesn't come as a surprise that it's not the time for drama for me nor do I need realistic situations or dig any form of angst.

Give me something heart-warming, something were family is mostly a supporting force, where parental caring isn't oppressive and the twin is mixing the sweetness up by being a bit one-minded, where friends are a bunch of loyal banter and blending age-gap and virgin isn't equal daddy issues. So no wonder that I was able to enjoy A Guy For Christmas. Yes, sure, the attraction came a bit too fast even for this season and I could have gone with a bit less cat content but as a Holiday book it works perfectly … but now it's time for something else, some other Christmas favorites, so maybe some Die Hard for a change?

A Guy For Christmas is a great holiday romance by KC Wells. And the title says it all, as Robin wants just that - a guy - not a boy.

This is one of those books I wasn't sure about going into it. But, since the author is KC Wells, I assumed she'd handle it with care. And I was right! I'm not a huge fan of teacher/former student romances, but this one never felt icky.

Robin is 18, legally an adult. Despite just being out of high school, he was never in any of Dean's classes. The two men easily form a connection on an emotional level, in addition to their sexual attraction. It's compelling from the start, and includes a humorous coming out scene for Robin.

A great aspect of their relationship is the level of equality. Often with such an age gap, when one of the men is only 18, you'd feel the older man has all the power. But the author excels in making them equals despite their differences.

The writing is sharp, with plenty of quick witted conversations, full of great banter. You'll love the sexual exploration and the fun first times.

The secondary characters are fabulous. I love, love, love this family. They make the holidays fun, with Hallmark movies and cookie decorating. And, oh my, I love Robin's twin.

A Guy for Christmas is a perfectly feel-good, light-hearted holiday romance. KC Wells had me obsessed with these men from the start. And as the story continues, it just gets better. You can't go wrong with this one.

It was soooo cute and just what I needed after that shitshow of a book I read yesterday. All their problems seemed to get solved by way of "christmas miracles" which- I'm a cynic- was kinda hard to be serious about but every page kept me smiling and it was really funny in that really subtle way.

Talk about a sweet, lovely and warm Christmas story! Dean and Robin are an adorable couple , and all the holiday background on the story made it even specialfor them! This is a very low angst story, the kind that warms you and gives you goofy eyes page after page. And honorable mention to the cover - picturing Adam during the reading was no trouble at all! I only wished for an epilogue... although the story ends with a HEA, I would have liked to read a little bit more about their future.

Now I only hope the author will tell us the story about Robin's not-so-straight-brother and his roommate. That would also be fun to read.

Christmas

Now that’s how I like my Christmas stories. First let’s start with teacher older man. This was done well. Not too much worry over age yet still having some. While having the couple stand up to those who don’t feel they belong together. A little drama but great conversation to work it out. Writing was great, smexy was amazing and side characters, please tell me we will have a Ryan story. Only complaint was the ending. It was a bit abrupt and why are my holiday characters being responsible.

Christmas has so many special gifts and blessings.

Everyone dreams of Christmas with all the joy and laughter, mistletoe and merriment, food and fun, friends and family while sharing and caring for each other. Even Ryan's irrational snark wrapped in brotherly love. But Dean has crept into the family even as he has helped himself with a special part of the family with his special loving relationship that makes Lady look more like Loki as the two families mix and merge into happiness with dreams fulfilled making even better dreams emerge for the future.

KC Wells is always a solid read for me. She has a knack for creating stories with interesting characters, realistic dialogue, and intriguing storylines. This christmas story doesn't disappoint. She takes a trope (age-gap/hot for teacher) and puts a refreshing spin on it, unending expectations in the process. This one has some steam but it's heavier on the romance. Easily one of my favorite holiday reads so far. Recommended!

A Guy For Christmas is a rather uneven story about the realities of sex and the evolution of a relationship beyond the physical. My biggest issues deal with how Robin’s virginity is handled and the unevenness of Robin’s relationship with his parents.

The writing in A Guy For Christmas is fine and, while the story isn’t exactly complex, the author does a good job of conveying the emotions and uncertainty of Robin’s age and the journey he undertakes. However, we’re told that how at 18, Robin feels sexually repressed because he hasn’t had sex. It becomes this barrier to be crossed, no matter what. And I struggled with the fact that somehow being a virgin was equated to being incomplete and “wrong” and that to be a virgin at 18 is akin to being desperate.

Oh boy, I struggled with this one. I've decided not to rate it because I don't know what to rate it. I didn't hate the story but I didn't come close to loving it. I didn't feel any connection between the MCs and I certainly didn't connect to them. I think my problem was, everything revolved around sex. I also struggled with the age difference and not the amount of years or the age of each MC. It's just Robin felt a very, very young 18 at times and other times much more mature, it confused me. It made me wonder what Dean saw in him at first except he was beautiful and it was easy sex, that made me sad. Don't get me wrong there were definitely some very sweet moments in there but I had to read through pages of sex to get them.

It might just be me so take my review with a grain of salt, I'm sad it didn't work for me.

QUICK THOUGHTS

** Holiday/Christmas
** Age difference (18yro - 32yrs)
** Teacher/student (teacher at the same school but not the MCS)
** Virgin/first time everything
** Too much sex
** Needed more story outside the bedroom
** Likeable enough MCs... Robin & Dean
** Couldn't feel any connection between MCs except they liked sex
** Couldn't connect to the MCs as a couple
** Great family but what's with his brother, that's left hanging
** Didn't work so well for me but I'm sure others will like it
** The ending felt incomplete and left me unsatisfied
** I think this will go on my "it's probably me and not the book" shelf

This was sweet, but... some aspects of this romance didn't quite work for me and made me cringe a little. Now, I have zero problems with the age difference between the characters (it'd be mighty hypocritical of me if I did, because, well... been there, done that), but the way the whole thing initially developed, with the "lessons" thing and the constant lying to Robin's parents, was a bit iffy. Turned out well in the end, I just wasn't all that thrilled with the way it got there.

Sweet no angst book featuring age gap and an eager virgin.
18 year old Robin is cute at the same time mature for his age. 32 year old Dean is an art teacher in Robin's former school though he never was Robin's teacher. No tabu/kink here. They meet just after Thanksgiving and Robin decides that Dean is a perfect candidate for his first sexual experience. But soon enough it's not just about sex and as Christmas approaches the two fall in love.
Dean was a perfect lover - caring, open, gentle (at first). I really appreciated the way he handled Robin's first times.
Relationship development was natural as the two spent time with each other.
The ending is a tentative HEA - love is there but Robin is only 18 with little life experience. Anything can happen but I believe in Robin and Dean as a couple. Epilogue set in a few years into the future would be good.
Secondary characters - Dean's friends and Robin's family were great. I would love to read more books from this universe.

Sweet but hot, I loved it!

A Guy for Christmas is a sweet-with-heat story. It's kind of a student/teacher romance but not exactly. Dean was a teacher at Robin's high school but he was never Robin's teacher. While this isn't one of my favorite romance tropes, I trusted K.C. Wells to handle well and she did just that.

Robin was definitely the pursuer in his relationship with Dean, and since Robin was 18 the age difference and the student/teacher aspect didn't bother me at all. Robin wanted Dean to tutor him in the joys of being with a man. Neither of them really thought it would be more than that until it was.

One of the most difficult things for Robin to deal with was keeping his relationship with Dean a secret from his parents (his idea, not Dean's). He wants to tell them but he's afraid of their reaction. When they find out before he was ready, their reaction was worse than he expected.

There are so many great things about this story but one of my favorites was Robin's twin brother, Ryan. K.C. did a good job with teasers about Ryan and I really hope she's going to write a story for him.

A copy of this book was provided to me but my review was voluntary and not influenced by the author.

I need more stars! This book made me feel so many wonderful things, and I couldn't stop smiling or laughing through all of it.

A super cute Robin managed to conquer my heart from the first pages. For an inexperienced young man he surprised me with how well ke knew what he wanted... or who he wanted. He turned out to be very mature, cool and sexy in addition to silly, sassy and quirky. And Dean, the older man, wasn't anyone to sneeze at either. He had his moments  of simply letting go, showing glimpses of his inner goof, and I just adored him. It cannot be denied, these two guys formed a very special and gorgeous couple, so much alike and with a lot in common, despite the age gap.

I'm glad they got their happy ending and I'm thankful for K.C. Wells's magical ability to write wonderful stories. I really needed this light, sexy, sweet and fun festive tale in my life right now and I can't recommend it enough.

Age gap romances are definitely a favourite trope of mine. And if it's written by KC Wells then even better. I absolutely loved A Guy for Christmas. Loved, loved loved it! It's definitely starting to get me in the Christmassy mood which in early November is very unlike me.
Robin is an 18 year old virgin and he's desperate to change that. If popping his cherry comes with a big dollop of romance that's a bonus.
When Robin "meets" his twin brother's ex teacher Dean he's immediately smitten and sets out to make his wishes come true. What results is a truly sweet and lovely story. Dean is in his 3os and has accepted that love is probably not gonna happen for him and he's content with his life. Until Robin crashes into his life. Robin is such an adorable character and love the way Dean was captivated by him from the start. There were some angsty moments when Robin's parent found out about their relationship but nothing was going to stand in the way of their HEA.
I'm hoping might plan a revisit to Lake Placid as I'm intrigued by Ryan, Robin's twin's story - definitely more going on there.

Age Gap/ first time

This wasn't my favorite from this author. Maybe it was because Robin seemed so young. He lived at home with his parents who he seemed to have a good relationship with yet he had to sneak around to see Dean.

And for Dean, he's a teacher and he knew Robin hadn't told his parents about him. Maybe its because they originally thought it was just going to be a fling they felt that it was OK to keep their relationship quiet. Who knows. Just felt that Robin was being a child by hiding it. At least be a real young adult and be murky in the details :p

Robin and Dean were cute together. Robin made Dean act a little younger and Dean made Robin a bit more mature. I like that they did all the fun Christmas stuff together. The cats were adorable.

All in all it was good.

Very cute story, with a good set-up. I'd love to see a story with Robin's twin Ryan -- not bi, my ass! The cover model for Robin still bugs me, although I'm down for Dean (yum!) -- he just seems a little too perky for the image in my head...

A Guy for Christmas KC Wells
To be honest, as sweet and delightful as this book was, I, personally, found it to be an anti-climax.
After reading the blurb, combined with the adorable cover, I was expecting something quite a bit more light hearted and Christmassy.
What I got, was a story far, far to sex-heavy and far too light on plot.
To me, this was bit like receiving a gift, beautifully wrapped in expensive paper and a gold dusted bow, only to open it and find a mediocre trinket from a dollar store.

Admittedly, the main characters are well drawn and loveable... The side players equally so. The cats added a touch of joy without overwhelming the story (as pets and kids very often do).
The book, as a whole, is extremely well written, which is exactly what we've come to expect from this wonderful author, but unfortunately... this won't be a story I'd place on my Fave Christmas Books list.
Three Stars.

° Heat level 4-5 flames
° Third person dual POV past tense
° I voluntarily read a complementary copy of this book (acquired through GRR) and have reviewed without obligation.
