Inheritance Of Love

Rate this book
When Jane Langlands inherits La Lavande from her uncle, she determines to go and live there. Surely by now the family feud, begun thirty years earlier when her late mother had jilted the only son of Countess des Rochesgrises, would now be forgotten and she would be allowed to settle in her mother's old home in peace? However, attempts are made to frighten Jane away from La Lavande, and this bitter hostility almost brings about her death...

Jane Langlands is surprised to discover that she is her Uncle Paul's heir, especially since her mother had been virtually disowned when she eloped with Jane's father only weeks before she was to have married her cousin Etienne. Since then the Langlands and the Rochesgrises have not spoken until Paul came to Jane's parents' funeral. Now she hopes that perhaps her new inheritance will put an end to the feud, especially with the cousins in her generation. Etienne's children, Raoul and Hortense welcome Jane, but their cousin Louis is less welcoming, perhaps because he had expected to be Uncle Paul's heir. Jane soon begins to wonder if her rash decision to sell her London flat and make her home in France was the right one, but only time will tell. Unlike most of Thomson's books, this one is almost a straight romance, with a very little mystery added at the end. Enjoyable.
