Re-read

I don't know what I was drinking when I wrote my first review, but it must have been potent.

For one, it was not a debit novel, but must have been a DEBUT.

And there was no snappy banter between the H and h. Really, what was I thinking.

What it was was a H meets h cute, and they have a passionate affair where the heroine is as much the oppressor as the hero. She is most definitely not a virgin and is in lust with the hero.

He is mourning ?????, something and can't commit until he dies.

First review...

Apparently, this is a debit novel and let me say well done. So, so close to a four star rating, but there were some issues with incompleteness and lost threads that prevent me from.. oh what the hell. There, four stars.

I don't go over plot lines much unless I feel it is necessary so let me write about the characters and the writing.

Emily and Luke scintillate and banter with the best of the best. Screwball comedy wit a la Cary Grant and Irene Dunne. I loved that element of Lucy King's writing. The relationship between Emily and her sister as well hunky Luke is very realistic. None of the moody, oh woe is me let me lay down and get hoovered by the H.

Sexy scenes and let me say for a part-time brooding hero, Luke is quite something else. Luckily he has a great sense of humor and can spar with the best. Since he is tiny bit of a brooder, he ends up saying some regrettably cruel things. Could have groveled a teensy bit more, but overall nice beta hero with alpa tendencies.

My issue with dropping the stars is plot lines that really go nowhere or are not fleshed out enough. More about Emily's fear of pregnancy, more about the death of Luke's wife and his mysterious MIL, oddly I wanted to know about Emily's BIL and more about Emily's sudden, very immediate success at pottery.

So, four stars for witty dialogue and sexy tension.
Three stars for lack of focus and flimsy followup on plot lines and one of the most abrupt endings ever!
I will definitely read more of Ms. King.

4 ½ Stars! ~ This is Ms. King's debut with Harlequin and what a fabulous debut it is! Instantly from the first page, I was falling in love with the characters. I loved Luke's surprised reactions to the way Emily was affecting him. She's a quirky fiesty heroine who makes him question his life's path, and when they are together they both seem to lose control. I loved the way Emily kept fantasizing about Luke and how her imaginings kept getting her into trouble. The chemistry with these two just leaps off the pages. I am very much looking forward to Ms. King's next realease out in September .. dare I hope it's Jake's story?

When I wrote this review in 2020, I complained that there was no epilogue. I just read “the Couple behind the headlines” which is the story of Luke’s friend Jack. Emily and Luke and their daughter get a mention and Luke makes a small appearance in it. It was better than nothing, but I would still have liked a proper epilogue for Emily and Luke sometime in the future with lots of kids.

I have just discovered Lucy King and I have started to read her back catalogue. I discovered Lucy with 'A Scandal made in London' and I loved her style, her humour, her characters and her amazing dialogue.

This one jumps straight into the story on a private jet as Luke takes Emily to France to go to her ex's wedding: the result of an ebay bid for charity. The dialogue just engaged my interest straight away and it never let up until the very end. I loved it.

Emily and Luke are a wonderful couple and I really engaged with their story. Both have angst to deal with and the way it plays out is really credible. So delighted to have discovered this author.

This book really cried out for an epilogue but there isn't one, so I've deducted one star.

Didn't like it, the connection between the hero and heroine felt weird and a bit disconnected. While I felt there was a sexual connection the emotional connection didn't feel like it was there as much. The heroine seemed attracted to the heroes friend Jack and how she bantered with him it almost felt like they would have been a better match like If he had won her in the auction I think she would have been more into him but was just a matter of who she met first. Hero hadn't been with woman since his wife died which I liked that he wasn't a manwhore but I'm not a fan of heroes being in love with other women even a dead wife. Then the whole pregnancy and how adamant hero and heroine were that they didn't want kids and how they talked about baby once heroine was pregnant I did not like it. The heroine kept saying she didn't want kids even as she was pregnant that it didn't quite make sense why she decided to stay pregnant with how scared she was to have a baby I mean she even broke up with a guy she loved because he wanted kids and she didn't. Also how freaking weird to go to an ex fiancées wedding??? P

I was excited to find a romance with a heroine who was happy child free however obviously the ending massively undermined that.

Since Emily broke up with her fiancé ,she don't date with anyone.
So her sister just auction her on the internet for dating .
Emily don't pleased with this idea at all ,
until Luke Harrison, tall, dark, handsome and successful businessman appears in front of her door as the winner of the auction.

the attraction between them is obvious. When both of them isn't fan of commitment
So they decide to have series of one night stand, no commitment permitted

But How could they manage to not madly falling in love with each other.

Luke is control-freak , work-aholic and very handsome.
He has some secret that will pop out of nowhere.
Emily is feisty and carefree. But their chemistry is real and intense, they can't keep their hand of each other.I love the character and love their chemistry.

This started really good i loved the on line auction i wished the author let us in on the auction might have been entertaining. I felt as the story progresses it just slowly became boring. I did not like the end with her unwanted situation or their reaction to it. Disappointed when it wrapped up.

Two things I love in a book - great dialogue and steamy scenes between the main characters and this book has got it in spades - great story and what a debut! I'm seriously impressed.
