Is freedom of expression broader if it exercised in the form of criticism or satire?
Yes.

In both civil and criminal law, a person's honour receives less powerful protection against offences in the context of criticism or satire, as these are situations in which the production of a crime is often necessary to carry out legitimate interests on the part of the public. «Aggressor» - in particular, his freedom of expression or artistic creation.

Another context in which this problem arises is that of copyright. The "parody", even it is inspired or closely follows a theme or motive of another work, is considered an original work. With the consequence that allusions to the work that served as inspiration or reference do not need the consent of the respective author (or other persons or entities entitled to do so). It will be, for example, the case of a comic film that closely follows the plot of a dramatic movie, to parody it.

It is also lawful, without requiring the consent of the respective author, the insertion of citations or abstracts of other works, regardless of their genre and nature, in support of their points of view or for criticism, discussion or teaching, to the extent necessary for the proposed objective. For example, to support a particular thesis, an author quotes and criticizes the passage of another author's work in which a contrary dissertation defended. This use is subject to certain conditions, such as the indication, whenever possible, of the name of the author and publisher, the title of the work and other circumstances that identify them. Furthermore, the work cited cannot be confused with the work in which the quotation made, and the reference cannot be so extensive that it harms interest in it.
