130 books414 followersग़ुलज़ार नाम से प्रसिद्ध सम्पूर्ण सिंह कालरा (जन्म-१८ अगस्त १९३६)[1] हिन्दी फिल्मों के एक प्रसिद्ध गीतकार हैं। इसके अतिरिक्त वे एक कवि, पटकथा लेखक, फ़िल्म निर्देशक तथा नाटककार हैं। उनकी रचनाए मुख्यतः हिन्दी, उर्दू तथा पंजाबी में हैं, परन्तु ब्रज भाषा, खङी बोली, मारवाड़ी और हरियाणवी में भी इन्होने रचनाये की। गुलजार को वर्ष २००२ में सहित्य अकादमी पुरस्कार और वर्ष २००४ में भारत सरकार द्वारा दिया जाने वाला तीसरे सर्वोच्च नागरिक सम्मान पद्म भूषण से भी सम्मानित किया जा चुका है। वर्ष २००९ में डैनी बॉयल निर्देशित फिल्म स्लम्डाग मिलियनेयर में उनके द्वारा लिखे गीत जय हो के लिये उन्हे सर्वश्रेष्ठ गीत का ऑस्कर पुरस्कार पुरस्कार मिल चुका है। इसी गीत के लिये उन्हे ग्रैमी पुरस्कार से भी सम्मानित किया जा चुका है।
गुलज़ार का जन्म भारत के झेलम जिला पंजाब के दीना गाँव में, जो अब पाकिस्तान में है, १८ अगस्त १९३६ को हुआ था। गुलज़ार अपने पिता की दूसरी पत्नी की इकलौती संतान हैं। उनकी माँ उन्हें बचपन में ही छोङ कर चल बसीं। माँ के आँचल की छाँव और पिता का दुलार भी नहीं मिला। वह नौ भाई-बहन में चौथे नंबर पर थे। बंट्वारे के बाद उनका परिवार अमृतसर (पंजाब, भारत) आकर बस गया, वहीं गुलज़ार साहब मुंबई चले गये। वर्ली के एक गेरेज में वे बतौर मेकेनिक काम करने लगे और खाली समय में कवितायें लिखने लगे। फ़िल्म इंडस्ट्री में उन्होंने बिमल राय, हृषिकेश मुख़र्जी और हेमंत कुमार के सहायक के तौर पर काम शुरू किया। बिमल राय की फ़िल्म बंदनी के लिए गुलज़ार ने अपना पहला गीत लिखा। गुलज़ार त्रिवेणी छ्न्द के सृजक हैं।

Sampooran Singh Kalra (Punjabi: ਸਮਪੂਰਨ ਸਿੰਘ ਕਾਲਰਾ, Hindi: संपूरण सिंह कालरा, Urdu: سمپورن سنگھ کالرا) known popularly by his pen name Gulzar (Punjabi: ਗੁਲਜ਼ਾਰ, Hindi: गुलज़ार, Urdu: گُلزار ), is an Indian poet, lyricist and director. He primarily writes in Hindi-Urdu and has also written in Punjabi and several dialects of Hindi such as Braj Bhasha, Khariboli, Haryanvi and Marwari.

Ek sabab marne ka, ek talab jeene ki, Chaand pukhraj ka, raat pashmine ki -A reason to die, a craving to live, A topaz moon, a warm, cosy night - What else can be said about Gulzar's poetry. He weaves a beautiful web of imagery with his poems where the reader is enthralled holding on to his every word.

गुलज़ार के नज्मों की एक बेहतरीन किताब - रात पश्मीने की। सैकड़ों नज़्मों में बयां किया है गुलज़ार ने बहुत कुछ।
बंटवारे की टीस भी है, घर की यादें भी। खुदा से शिकायत भी है, कायनात से नाराजगी भी। दरख्तों, दरियाओं से मोहब्बत भी है, शहर से बेरुखी भी। चाँद तारों की बातें भी हैं, और है तन्हाई भी।

किताबें झाँकती हैं बंद आलमारी के शीशों से
बड़ी हसरत से तकती हैं
महीनों अब मुलाकातें नहीं होती

Gulzar definitely has a way with words. We all are witnesses of some of his legendary creations in past few decades so obviously I had high expectations from this but I must say the experience was a bit Underwhelming. Out of those 100+ poems and 80-odd Gazals and Trivenis only a few were good enough to make a lasting impact. I have read quite a lot of Gulzar Sahab and I'll not rate this as one of his best collection, still definitely worth a read.

"वाव" पर होठों का छल्ला गोल होकर घूम जाता था !
बहुत दिन हो गए देखा नहीं,ना खत मिला कोई
बहुत दिन हो गए सच्ची,
तेरी आवाज़ की बौछार में भीगा नहीं हूँ मैं!
मैं कुछ-कुछ भूलता जाता हूँ अब तुझको,
तेरा चेहरा भी अब धुँधलाने लगा है अब तखय्युल में !!

Raat Pashmine Ki by Gulzar
The book is a compilation of some of Gulzar’s poetry. Gulzar’s songs, Gulzar’s dialogues, Gulzar’s films, all have one quality-they carry the “rasa” of poetry because basically he remains a poet.
Raat Pashmine Ki is a poetry book written by Gulzar containing three different forms of poems by him namely Gazal, Triveni and Shayari.
So what do they mean?
A ghazal is a poetic form consisting of rhyming couplets (usually five to fifteen) and a refrain, with each line sharing the same meter. Each couplet (known as a “sher”) is a complete thought but is linked to the others by the theme or mood.
Shayari is a broad term that encompasses various forms of Urdu and Hindi poetry, including ghazals, nazms, and other poetic expressions. It doesn’t have a fixed structure and can range from short two-line verses (couplets) to longer compositions.
Triveni is a unique form of poetry consisting of three lines (triplet). It was popularized by Gulzar himself. Unlike the traditional ghazal or shayari, the third line of a Triveni adds a twist or an unexpected turn, often altering the meaning or giving deeper insight into the first two lines.
The key difference which lies in these three forms is that a Ghazal has a structured couplet format with rhyme and refrain, Shayari is more free-form and varied, and Triveni is a triplet with a twist in the third line.
Reading this collection was difficult for me as I am not much fluent in Urdu but Kindle did help me by getting the meaning of some lines which went above my head. I did invest a lot of time in reading this collection as each poem even though they were just a page or two were so deep and powerful that I couldn't just read it like a book without contemplating. So yeah I did take time, and after finishing it I can just say that the power poems hold is so overwhelming that it often leaves the reader dumbfounded which this book did for me.

Enchanting as expected, Gulzar is definitely a master of words. Words which make you lifeless and full of life at once. The empathy it creates takes you to every place he has travelled and every skin he has been underneath.. Loved reading this piece! :)
