With his closest friend dead, killed by an experimental virtual reality device, Jorg finds himself in more danger than he ever imagined. He suddenly has access to an endless fountain of hyper advanced technology- technology everyone else wants and is willing to kill him to get. With no other choice, Jorg goes toe to toe with corrupt institutions, his own government, and even greater threats. Little does Jorg know that the fate of all mankind will hinge on the choices he makes after the horrible accident that started it all.
This book totally scratches that itch. Thoroughly enjoyed it, in loved that instead of a single AI there was a whole crew, psychic powers and warring aliens! So much fun!
Generally speaking, I am a fan of Joshua Done’s work and thoroughly enjoy his many books. When he sticks to plot, it's a fun, entertaining, interesting read that's also reasonably well written. That being said, I do feel like his main characters, because they are well written. Incredibly lucky, brash, always pulling solutions out of nowhere and sometimes my mind was blown.
The human being is amazing, and this great story starts with the need of survival and we truly are capable to fight and conquer so much. There were several moments where you could feel our main character’s adrenaline and if you weren’t sitting, well you might have crashed on the ground.
This is another enjoyable science fiction book and if you enjoyed books about space, then Oblivion Engine is definitely the right book. Also, at first, I thought that there might have been too many pages but believe me when I tell you that I have devoured this book.
The story blasts off fast and doesn't let up, and while the story and settings are top-notch, it's the fun characters that keep readers flipping pages or audiobook listeners tuning it. If you've ever imagined what you and your buddy would do if suddenly granted super AI powers and an assortment of other sci fi goodies, this story plays it out.
Beginning with some madcap comedic elements, about a third of the way in the author plays things more like a straight sci fi adventure, but the characters never lose their charm. The story's got a libertarian bent, so expect bureaucratic bad guys - the worst sort - which persist even when our heroes take to the stars.
What do you do whenever your best friend become an AI due to misfortune? And your friend screws up your life to the point that you have to leave? Laughing a good science fiction story with actual dialogue, that makes you laugh out loud. J.Done, should be recognized as the Quentin Tarantino of science fiction dialogue. From fighting off a section of the USA government, to Canada and Russia. Looking forward to book 2! Oh and I only review books that I love!
I have read science fiction for over 45 years and love the plot of this novel. The way characters have the odds stacked against them and still soldier on sticking together I love.
