I guess the plot was fine, but this lacked substance in terms of characters. For one, none of them were likeable, and I didn’t really have any reason to want any of them to win or lose, live or die, etc. It’s basically a battle between billionaires, activists, a journalist, and a jealous douche that got cucked by one of the billionaires. So, nothing there. Moreover, there are so damn many characters that by the time I actually had a grip on them, we were 200 pages in and I was just ready to reach the conclusion because of how disinterested I was in their narratives. Thus, it was a slog of another 150 or so pages to figure out what happens.
It wasn’t horrible, but I’d call it a solid idea that was executed very poorly.
This is the first book in my husband Lawrence Light's Karen Glick series about a financial reporter who solves crimes on Wall Street. Try them, they're terriffic!
