I got to page 109, and decided life is too short to waste time reading bad books....and this one is a stinker. If you are reading this and still want to read Fear and Greed there are minor spoilers ahead.

The characters are recognizable tropes: unlovable yet responsible (to the point where you don't take time off work to mourn the death of a family member), self absorbed and beautiful, powerful but a dickhead....you get the the picture.

The protagonist is a reporter who strangely doesn't think to pull out her cell phone to call for help when she survives a car accident. And of course the car catches fire adding to the drama (this rarely happens in real life). Then she is blamed for said accident by the aforementioned powerful dickhead, even though she was wearing her seatbelt and he wasn't so there would be marks/injuries to prove she wasn't the driver. She kept complaining about her sore shoulder so perhaps the author eventually go to that but I will never know.

Page 109 finished it for me when a police detective called the protagonist and the beautiful, self absorbed (but also rich and with some power) character, broads. Really? This book was written in 2007 not 1927. Calling a journalist (even one who appears rather stupid) a broad in 2007 would definitely have repercussions.

So I don't know whodunnit, nor do I care. The biggest mystery surrounding this book is who thought it was good enough to publish. The biggest crime is that beautiful trees were sacrificed in its production.

This is the second book in my husband's excellent Karen Glick series. If you like New York mysteries, you'll love this one.
