An expert in Leonardo DaVinci’s works, Lucy Rossano recognizes the centuries-old time machine the moment she sees it in a Stanford lab. Fascinated in spite of the danger, she uses her knowledge to briefly go back in time—landing in the middle of a fierce battle in ninth-century Britain. And when she returns to modern-day San Francisco, she brings something back with a seductive, fiercely intelligent Viking named Galen… The presence of this enigmatic, devastatingly sexy stranger is just one of the new complications in Lucy’s life. There are others who want to harness the time machine’s power for treacherous ends, and they need Lucy to do it. Galen becomes first her protector, then the lover she’s always dreamed of. But danger is drawing closer, and time is running out. For Galen and Lucy, it’s now…or forever.
Susan Squires is a NYT bestselling author known for breaking the rules of romance. Whatever her time period or subject, some element of the paranormal creeps in. She has won multiple contests for published novels and reviewer's choice awards. Publisher's Weekly named Body Electric one of the ten most influential mass market books and One with the Shadows a Best Book. Time for Eternity received a starred review.
Susan has a Masters in English literature from UCLA and once toiled as an executive for a Fortune 500 company. Now she lives at the beach with her husband, Harry, a writer of supernatural thrillers, and three Belgian Sheepdogs, who like to help her write by putting their chins on the keyboardddddddddddd.
Susan Squires is without a doubt one of the best authors of time travel romances. Effortlessly taking the modern world and adding a sprinkle of the past. In this book, the hero is Galen Valgarssen, honorable, valiant, bold advisor to the king and did I mention, a hot, sexy Viking? The heroine, Lucy Rossano is still dealing with her feelings after the loss of her father. The only shining light in her life is when she wanders across an old book written by Leonardo Da Vinci about a time machine, which who she excitedly shares it’s existence with her friend Brad, who informs her the machine is real. Wounded and near death Galen is sent back through time and his world crashes with Lucy’s. If he hadn’t followed her he would be dead, so history is changed, but the time machine did not do as it was suppose to and Lucy and Galen soon find themselves in grave danger. Not to mention hiding a Viking in modern day San Francisco is nearly impossible. But mostly she finds it difficult to fight her attraction to Galen and his obvious attraction to her. It's ludicrous to think she could ever have a relationship with a man who lived generations ago, isn't it? i
Gosh, I am nuts about Time Travel! Would I do it myself if I could? Probably not. 1) It's too risky. 2) I don't live in a fictional world. If I screw up, I'm in trouble big time. However, it's great to fantasize about in a book or a hundred.
How'd ya like to come home and find a 'real' Viking in your living room? Pretty scary, for sure. They couldn't speak to each other at all, but it was funny as heck watching this viking trying to deal with everything modern. Talk about being out of your realm? Poor guy.
Let's just say that they have a whole lot of obstacles to overcome. And of course they're gonna fall for one another. The question is, where will they end up, his time or hers??
I wanted to give this book a higher rating, I really, really did. I recently met Ms. Squires and she was an exceptional speaker and a wonderful advocate for romance writers. I liked the story premise and the characters in A Twist in Time were realistic, flawed, and people I could really root for. My problem was a couple of plot points that simply stretched believable to my breaking point. That being said, I will pick up and read the next book in the series as I enjoyed the time-travel and historical elements.
I have high expectations for this book after reading the summary. Furthermore the story started interestingly enough.
However it started to drag after 60 pages which is not a good sign. I practically just skimmed through the book.
Lucy and Galen are great characters along with other side characters but the whole story is just so damn slow. And there's just too many loopholes and unbelievably far fetched at times.
Well thought out and researched, love the historical bits about garb and language comparisons. The book itself was just boring; characters uninteresting, plot formulaic. I could not even finish the books.
This book is fantastic I read book 3 1st so I went back and read book 2 it is so-so good I'm hoping to find book 1 and I'm hoping she has 456789 and 10 that's how good they were I'm looking forward to more books If you're looking for a good book easy to read Look her up
I have read quite a few books by Susan Squires and I must say that I found them interesting and thoroughly enjoyable. Susan Squires has given us a story that will hold your interest from start to finish ,and may even leave you wanting more from this author. This story is a Viking comedy that has some just down to earth fun and has some adventure in it also with some sweet escape for everyone. This is Lucy and Galen love story. Lucy owners a book store that has a diagram of a time machine , so has we are opening this story her and some of her friends are going to try it out. But poor Lucy ends up landing in the middle of the tenth century Battle ,and she ends up bring back a handsome Viking called Galen with her. But when they returned they landed in the elevator at the hospital, But when poor Galen wakes up from surgery he thinks he's been tortured .But soon they both realizes that their in danger .So they take refuge on a yacht ,so Galen decides to sail away. This story is about time traveling it took in account the language barriers , the differences in cultures, it has some magic, and situations that make this adventurous for some. If you don't like story's about time traveling then this books not for you, this story is full of adventures and is just a fun read. I could tell you more, but that would spoil it for you. I highly recommend you read this story, I have a feeling you won't be disappointed.
Suspend your disbelief at the door and if you can do that you will enjoy the love story between Galen and Lucy. I can only give "A Twist in Time" 3.5 stars because it has everything, including the kitchen sink. It has Leonardo Davinci's book and a time machine. It has a Viking warrior, magic, time travel, ecology and the changing roles of women. But, we also have two flawed indiviuals from different worlds trying to come to terms with their current circumstances and each other and that is the part that really works. Galen the big Viking Warrior who has been injured in battle must come to terms with the fact that he must rely on Lucy. Lucy must fight her attraction to Galen in order to figure out how to keep them safe and get Galen home to his own time. They get to know each other through their need to communicate and understand their language differences and their culture. This is where the book works, their journey to communicate with each other also leads them on a road to self discovery and love.
Okay I'm a little annoyed. I made sure to read the entire companion series as the last two books of that are the first two books of the Da Vinci Time Travel series - turns out Galen is the son of Epona and Valgar from Danelaw a previous book of Squires. I've got and would have read it first if I'd known.
Galen and his character development is similar to Geirolf of The Last Viking by Sandra Hill. The villains are very two dimensional and so if you like complex villains you'll be disappointed.
Lucy was a great character, strong, intelligent and willing to own her actions and I really liked her.
New series, ties in to time machine in previous vampire books.
A time machine built by Leonardo Da Vinci, Viking from 912 brought forward to the current day, some woo-woo stuff, some environmental stuff. And a hot Viking, who Squires manages to make not a jerk without wrenching him all out of shape as far as what someone from that time might be like.
An over the top villian, and a secondary villian (wantabe boyfriend of the heroine) who goes seriously weird, but who's kind of peripheral.)
Some of the logic I don't want to examine too closely, but I had fun. Looking forward to the next one which had a teaser chapter. Seriously curious what kind of hookup the next heroine gets... There were implications of Camelot...

I had high hopes for this one but while it wasn't bad I didn't find it very compelling either. The characters were well done but the plot seemed to drag. The first 80 or so pages had promise but then the story seemed to hit a lull. I realize they are in hiding and Galen, the hero, was healing but it seemed to last too long. Lucy's friend Brad goes from good friend and possible love interest to utter nutcase way to fast for my liking. Honestly, I doubt I'd read the next one as it took me quite a bit of dragging to get through the middle of the book and sadly the climax didn't make up for it.
A very interesting and exciting take on time travel and magic. Meet Lucy as she is given a Leonardo Da Vinci written book that describes a machine he created that could travel through time with the help of her "friend" Brad, who created a power source that can power the machine, she travels back to A.D. 912 and saves the life of Galen by bring him back to the future. Now she and Galen must try and survive as Brad and government agents look for them and the book. Galen and Lacy must use the powers of the earth to keep them alive. Galen himself was the best part of A Twist in Time by Susan Squires. Unlike many alpha-type heroes, he never treated Lucy as less than himself. He degraded his own character for having to rely on her, but never Lucy. His reaction to the modern world and everything it entailed granted a well-needed sense of comic relief and it melted me instantly.
Lucy owns a book with a diagram of a time machine. At the opening of this book she and several friends are about to try it. Lucy lands in the middle of a tenth century battle and brings back a wounded Viking. They land in a hospital elevator. When Galen wakes from surgery he believes he is being tortured. Then they learn they are in danger Finding refuge on am yacht Galen decides to sail a "Viking." Comedy mixed with suspense, danger and lots of erotica.
I found the level of detail and explanation in the beginning a little distracting, but soon found myself sucked in and anxious to see how Galen and Lucy's relationship developed. I loved the character of Galen, learning more about him and seeing him adapt to the present. The end of the story was an unexpected surprise with the epilogue wrapping up the story leaving me looking forward to more.
I stand by my original review for this book. I loved the character Galen. I thought the story was well constructed, but I thought it became a bit too complacent at the end. Overall nicely done, and I would recommend. Look forward to reading more from Ms. Squires.
I liked the story, it kept me interested. So what happens when you get a Viking from a battlefield in the 900s and bring him back to modern time? I thought Ms Squires did a great job with his reactions and actions. The story and relationship was done well and believable. Great story.
A quick, enjoyable read. A few too many "oh, no, I shouldn't give into temptation" scenes between the two primary characters, when it was so obvious that they were going to do just that. Still, a good time-travel storyline with a satisfying ending.
I enjoy Susan Squires books. Her story is great and her research wonderful and if you like Vikings, you will probably give it five stars. I am not a Viking fan, but I still really enjoyed the story.
Susan Squires is a great author. Book 3 in her Time Travel Series. I enjoy how da Vinci's Time Machine is drawn to the next person & why it is needed in her life. Lucy is wanting a time of magic & she finds in within herself & her Viking. A must read.
The plot seemed to d...r...a...g.... and the hero talked like he was a caveman. Too many books, too little time to read something that makes me roll my eyes. DNF.
This is not Susan Squire's best book but I enjoyed reading this one as I enjoyed all of her books that I have read. Looking forward to reading the next book in the series.
