The Normans have invaded England, bringing fear, difficulty and change to the Saxon population. At Penwold Manor, the Lord's son Edwin is having a hard time adjusting to the new regime and new rules under the leadership of the Norman lord Robert. Then a mysterious stranger brings an opportunity to strike back. Edwin has decisions to make.
His dog, Greyback, half-wolf, also faces changes and choices. Do his loyalties lie with his beloved master, or will he answer the call of the wild and return to the forest and the wolf pack? When boy and dog are separated, they both discover unexpected strengths and weaknesses in themselves, and know that important choices must be made.
Less about Greyback - a dog-wolf hybrid - than about his owner, a Saxon boy who has to deal with losing his older brother and with the Normans taking over his home and lands.
Well written with a strong Christian message. Gives good insight into how life might have been in England around the time of the Norman invasion.
I read this book when I was eight or nine. It's a story about a boy who finds a half-wolf pup. It is set during the Norman invasion of England. It was a nice story at the time.
