Margo was just your normal Christmas elf, and sure maybe she had a bit too much Christmas cheer, but hey, if starting to decorate for Christmas in July was wrong, she didn't want to be right. At least, until the three lords of Halloween decide to kidnap her and bring her back to Halloweenland. There’s Jack, the hopelessly sexy and tall King of Halloween, who’s harboring a monster inside of him. Wraith, the dark and dangerous Boogeyman, who may not be nearly as evil as he seems. And Sam, the Mayor of Halloweenland, whose multiple personalities only seem to make him sexier. And Margo’s about to find out exactly what goes bump in the night, but with any luck... maybe she can spread a little Christmas cheer to these three dark beings. After all, that's her only hope... How incredibly different. I must say I never read a nightmare before Christmas retelling, im not sure why it's taking so long but it was excited to finally read one! I really loved how Santa was the bad guy, loved the original characters, loved the twist of those said characters and the funny one liner Christmas jokes. Now with that being said there was a few things I didn't like. The execution of the book being short and not really showing the relationship grow naturally, I also didn't care for how this RH was done. Margo seems to just sleep with the guys out of no where, and the guys don't seem to be ok with it, it's only when Margo tells them to get over it that they do. These are the worse RH because they don't flow naturally, and with this being a short read nothing seemed to click right, and it leaves you to feel so unsatisfied with the whole thing.
This Is Halloween: A Christmas Tale was downright hilarious. I was intrigued by an evil Santa but stayed for the lands: Halloweenland and Christmasland. They both sound amazing in my eyes and would definitely book tickets to visit.
The characters were pretty likable throughout the entire book. At times, I died a little inside from how creepy, hilarious, or completely absurd things were. It was highly entertaining, and I just really enjoyed each page and chapter that came my way.
Other than that, I adored the romance that was brewing between Margo, Jack, Sam, and Wraith. Each person brought something fun and new to the chaotic relationship. Plus, it helped Margo shape into the person that she was hiding inside of her. It was something she needed if I'm being honest.
In the end, it was a fun holiday read and now I'm ready for some more holiday books/movies.
Because the name wasn’t a dead giveaway….. Color me surprised to learn this was a loose RH retelling of the ☠️Nightmare Before Christmas🎄. On principal I loved the book before even reading but still loved every corny, hilarious and whimsical moment now having read it. The book does take on a darker tone with bloodshed, evil monsters and a villain who may surprise you but still kept a upbeat and hilarious tone from start to finish. After Margo the Christmas elf is kidnapped by Boogie’s Minions she finds herself in a world as far from Christmas cheer that she could ever imagine. Torn between wanting to return home and do her elf-ly duties, Margo finds herself caught in the net of Halloween Land’s most prominent bachelors and monsters. This rocky relationship takes place between Margo, the Halloween Land Skelton King Jack, the Mayor Sam (instead of spinning heads he has multiple personalities kinda like Jekyll and Hyde) and Wraith (the Boogeyman). I absolutely loved how the author manipulated the story to work in her favor like this because it was so insane but tons of fun as well. Margo was a fun and daring elf who certainly learns that likes living on the darker side. She comes into her own once she’s in ‘town’ and I really appreciated her character and open honest communication she always had with the men. She let them know she was having all three of them and that was that 👏🏼 If you’re looking for a fun holiday read that’s completely crazy but also hot & original, look no further, this was a trip. Would def love to see if and what the author would do if she were to take the story further with the other holidays 🤔 🤞🏽
Margo is a Christmas elf who's spent her whole life embracing everything Christmas but when she ends up kidnapped things start to change. She finds herself in Halloweenland with Jack who was expecting Santa Clause. However, her arrival isn't necessarily a bad thing as she has three lords of Halloween wanting her attention.
I loved Margo she made me smile she's just a sweetheart even when the men who are chasing after her go bump in the night. She has this steamy chemistry between her and each of the men but it works so well. They each bring something to the table but I think the boogyman may be my favorite of her three men.
This isn't my first book by Melody Rose and I have some high expectations but it doesn't disappoint. The Characters are great easy to connect with you can't help enjoying Margo's adventure into Halloweentown. This is a steamy reverse harem with a HEA. I enjoyed the characters and loved the story it was a quick read and I read it in one afternoon. Highly recommend.
I love anything inspired by the Nightmare Before Christmas movie - and this book was no different. I loved the way it was written, the characters, the romance, the spice... everything was amazing and I have zero complaints. also, boogie was my favorite. he's literally the sweetest character and I just want him for myself. the other guys were great too, but boogie is the best. definitely recommend!
So I feel kind of torn on the rating of this book. I liked most of the story and as a HUGE Nightmare Before Christmas fan I loved the twists the storyline takes. I did find however that it was a little bit harder for me to get through the book the further into it I got. I think part of what made it so hard is the way that Margo’s relationship with each of the men developed. It just seemed like she started to sleep with them anytime she was helping them and it just felt kinda rushed. I did however love the twist on Santa!! That’s what made me decide to read through to the end.

-RH - No M/M -retelling of The Nightmare Before Christmas -S T E A M Y -low angst -Standalone -All consensual
Man, this is seriously a hard book to choose a rating for.
On one hand, the retelling of The Nightmare Before Christmas was absolutely great and so much fun! Such a wicked twist on Jolly old Saint Nick, and I LOVED this version lol there was gore, elf eating reindeer, slave toy shops, etc.
On the other hand, the character development within the harem just wasn’t there. Truthfully, I’ve found that happens a lot with RH standalones because there’s just not enough time in one book to give so many main characters a true personality/relationship buildup to make them stand out. For example, Sam the mayor, there is absolutely no relationship building with him at all. They have sex, and he admits how much he cares for her. Wait, where did those feelings come from because the only time y’all interacted with each other was for you to tell her to leave Halloweenland? There’s slightly more of a buildup with Jack. And there’s more with the boogeyman. But overall, I would say instalust/instalove just because there’s not much buildup at all.
Now, for the harem itself. The way she built her harem felt so unnatural to me. It was definitely forced. She basically shacks up with one of them, and then goes out on her own and hooks up with another one and tells the first guy to get over it. Then she hooks up with the third one, and again just tells them to get over it and accept it. There’s no sexual tension buildup between the harem, it’s just like, “oh btw I just had sex with this guy and you need to accept it.”
Butttttt, despite the lack of relationship building and the almost awkward way she forms her harem, I somehow still enjoyed the book because the retelling of this story was so good!! And honestly the bedroom scenes were HOT. Like, had me hot and bothered, HOT. So for those alone, I’ll give this book at least 3 stars.
I am a huge fan of The Nightmare Before Christmas so when I came across this book title, I was intrigued. Especially finding out that it is a reverse harem too, how would that work exactly? I was completely blown away with what I got, I loved every second of reading this book and was so sad to have it come to an end! I wish I could have gotten a second epilogue or something lol. I will say that I was surprised that Boogey was the fist one that Margo went for, I would have sworn up and down it would have been Jack. The building of relationship between her and all the men was great. Her struggle with Sam and then coming to terms with her feelings for Jack. The characters really matched who they were supposed to be, Wraith was scary like Boogey is, Jack is obvious how he would be, but I really thought he was done better in this book. Then Sam with all his personalities, I liked how there was more detail to all these characters. I had death grip on my tablet there at the end of the book, that battle scene had me on the edge of my seat! I couldn’t put it down, I wanted to know what happened. That little twist there at the very end with Margo, it was perfect and literally smacked me in the face. Really enjoyed and liked how everything came together to make a really great twist on a classic!
I've never read a Nightmare Bfore Christmas reimagining before, so this was really cool! It's my favourite movie, so I've seen it loads of times, and I caught myself sometimes reading the characters' dialogue in their voices from the movie.
I liked the twist on Santa being an evil overlord, but I thought Margo could've used a little more motivation to turn against him. She talks about all these punishments that he employs and what happens when he deems you useless, but never really in a way that meant it was something she'd experienced. I thought it would've given her more depth if she really had a vendetta, like if some of those things had happened to her or to her family.
The romance was a touch stilted. I love the idea of her being with Jack, Sam, and Wraith (Oogie), but it felt rushed. They jumped into bed pretty quickly and didn't seem to happen as a natural progression. The guys, mostly Wraith, weren't super thrilled about sharing her and didn't really work through that beyond her telling them it was going to happen, so deal with it or leave.
The ending felt a bit rushed as well. I think this could've benefited from being a little longer so that everything could be fleshed out more. It was a very fun story to read, though, and I'd love to see a sequel that explores Margo and her boys more and what happened after that ending.
What the hell did I just read???? I'll never watch 'Nightmare Before Christmas Again'.
Look, I didn't go into this thinking it was going to be Shakespeare. It was a fun, seasonal read--I do wish it had leaned harder into Autumn/Halloween imagery...and maybe embraced more of the scenes from the movie.
The love story(ies?) was/were...fun. Boy, did those boys fall hard and fast for Margo. I almost feel like this would've been better if it hadn't been a RH....I would've really actually enjoyed Margo and Jack or Wraith or Sam (SAM HUIN?! GET IT GET IT GET IT!?) taking longer to develop feelings for each other...I would've leaned hard into the enemies to lover/non-con (the non-con in this was weak sauce) and would've appreciated a more meaningful relationship between our characters rather than the kind of cheesy insta-love that popped up between 4 of them.
HOWEVER--you know what you're getting into with this book, let's be honest. The action/conflict in this was friggen wild and I appreciate the twist (Has anyone else seen the 'Family Guy' Christmas Special that had sort of a similar feeling to this?/Watched Futurama and its Christmas episodes...because I feel like this author took some influence from both) but it...uh...yeah. This was a book. And I read it. And it was fun.
There are a few issues, but over all fun, entertaining and enjoyable.
4 ⭐️s solidly.
This is a fun, almost fan fiction kind of story. I enjoyed the twists on a beloved Halloween/Christmas movie, and I found it to be overall very well done. While there were a few issues, generally speaking, they were not egregious enough for me to put off by the book.
The biggest issue I had was when one of the characters would think a statement and then immediately say the exact same statement with the exact same structure. For instance, Margo had a thought “It’s time to get down to business” and then within a couple of sentences said exactly the same thing. I would recommend the author to try to mix up the phrasing, something like “Time to make the magic” would have been a suitable replacement for the exact same phrasing, and still fit nicely with the intent.
It struck me as inexperience more than poor writing, so I am looking forward to seeing what else Ms. Rose comes up with and I will certainly be keeping an eye out for her future work.
A why choose, Nightmare Before Christmas inspired romance between a kidnapped Christmas elf named Margo, Jack Skellington, Mayor Sam and Wraith who is the Boogeyman (Oogie Boogie). This surprisingly had a lot of murder and blood, especially in the third act. I love an evil Santa Claus. In this world, he is not jolly, he’s evil and the elves are treated as slaves. The romance between Jack, Sam and Wraith started separating with each man and Margo brought them all the happiness they never knew they needed.
“With Wraith, it had been about discovery and desire, and with Sam, it had been animalistic anger, but with Jack, it was a pure need.”
I really enjoyed the authors take on Christmas is this book. It wasn’t what I was expecting but I absolutely enjoyed it! It was also a bit darker then I thought it would be but definitely in a good way. I hoped to see a bit more of the harem together but with a short book you can only add some much. But really the author really did bring both these lands to life and made the whole book even more enjoyable.
In the epilogue; I absolutely loved how Margo really became the queen of Halloweenland. I wasn’t sure what I had expected but it wasn’t that she’d be stitched back together.
There is no build up between here and the guys except for Jack. Theirs is the only relationship that would have made sense. The other two were just kind of slipped in and…. Even though the whole city treated Wraith like garbage… Margo also… treats him like garbage… why talk about your relationship and rules and boundaries before you go out and sleep with two other guys??
I also question the mental health rep and what they were getting at with Sam (the mayor).
Grabbed it because it was a night mare before Christmas retelling and put it down because the romance/ character development was terrible.
The idea is excellent. Who wouldn’t love a RH Nightmare Before Christmas retelling?! The execution, however, just wasn’t quite there.
It is a short book so I understand the plot needs to move quickly but I don’t know that I found Margo’s relationship with Wraith (Boogeyman) or Sam (The Mayor) particularly believable. Jack was the only one that seemed truly organic. To be fair I’m not a fan of Instalove so 🤷♀️
The writing itself was okay, the spice was mild but done well considering. I did like the creepy spin on Santa, the Little Helpers, and carnivorous reindeer. Rather clever that.
Overall it was an okay read. Not a favorite but it didn’t feel like a waste of time either.
This is Halloween was the perfect mix of Christmas and Halloween! When I saw that Melody Rose had written a reverse harem take on The Nightmare Before Christmas I had to run and download it, and I was not disappointed!
While I did feel that all of the relationships were a bit rushed and the ending left me feeling a tad unsatisfied the plot blew me away. I mean come on y’all a not so jolly Sandy Claws?, that deserves ten points just for originality all by itself! Add all the different sexy twists to our original NBC men and it’s a book worth reading all year round!
Just... Yes! I want sure what to excpect. I thought the concept was cool wad worried about the delivery. I was pleased. I want more of these guys and the kids and what is new with Christmasland and Hallaweenland. What other lands are there. I want more. I am a fan of nightmare before Christmas and RH put it together and this was great. Well done. Good job. My copy had a few typos but not enough to really distract me. I thought the POV change was done well, I always worry about them but I could tell who was who. Gonna try to find more of her books now. I hope she has more odd RH.
‘’This is Halloween’’ is an interesting take on “A Nightmare Before Christmas.” It’s a reverse novel where the guys are based on Jack, the mayor (Sam) and Oogie Boogie (Wraith). Jack still wants to take over Christmas and has the Boogie Boys go to Christmastown to kidnap Santa. Instead, they kidnap Margo an elf and bring her back to Halloween-land as a girlfriend for Wraith. All is not as happy as it seems in Christmastown and Margo is not so keen to go back but isn’t sure she belongs in Halloweenland either.
This was an exciting take on Nightmare Before Christmas with a twist. The characters were fantastic and it was great to see them with flaws and all and turned from the caricatures from the movie into human like characters. I know it’s a standalone but it would have been great to actually see them all working in normal times as a group. They all came together individually and then straight away went to battle, then a couple of paragraphs of epilogue and done.
This book came up in my recommended for you based on books you’ve read. I saw the title and and was like that is the is the title of a song from my favorite movie The Nightmare Before Christmas. This is a why choose type of story. Margo is an elf that gets taken to Halloweenland where she falls for 3 very handsome gentleman that want to make her happy. Christmasland isn’t all it’s cracked up to be. Santa isn’t who we all think he is as a battle ensues. I loved this take on my favorite movie. I loved how “Sally” came about.
I loved it! It was a great twist on “A nightmare before Christmas". The characters were really good and the world was descriptive to be a single novel. I would really like to see some other characters from this world or even other holidays. It was a really fun and entertaining read. It was fresh and original. I absolutely loved it! RH, steamy 18+ scenes, blood and gore with some humor mixed in.
As soon as I saw this on my KU page I knew I had to read it. ANBC has always been one of my favorite movies, how spooky and dark it is. To take that idea and grow it up was brilliant. I know this is RH but I could of just focused of Wraith the entire book. There are some very spicy scenes so if that is not your thing, just FYI. The twists involved with the different worlds was perfect, and the epilogue, I screamed when I realized where it was going! I’d love to see a second book.
I kinda like this version. It’s definitely spicier. And I love Wraith/The Boogyman’s personality. And the Mayor (love that play on the name too) is a trip. The multiple personality thing is great. Even the kids characters are so good. And who in the world would have expected up a Santa like that?!?! Everything about this book is fun…especially Margo’s transformation at the end.
I stumbled on this while looking for some fun but spicy Halloween books. Given that everyone kind of loves and feels for Jack when watching that movie, this was a fun and interesting read. I wasn't sure what to expect when I jumped it. It was not the wild ride that I got, but I definitely enjoyed it. For a shorter novella, this was pretty dense and full of things happening. Santa is not who I expected. lol. I wish we got a bit more time with each Jack, Sam, and Wraith though.
This book is absolutely amazing. It was the first time in months that I was able to completely submerged myself within a story and not able to put it down. Forever now I'll hear the Nightmare Before Christmas music and be reminded of these characters. Highly recommend for anyone looking for something different in their reverse harem.
A fantastic take on the Nightmare before Christmas
I love this story, the characters and story line plots, I couldn't put it down. I definitely recommend to anyone who loves nightmare before Christmas and reverse harem. Its not going to be a story for everyone but it was up my alley.
