A gift from an important new Court Jester! One fine satire!

Maryland author Wayne Tatum is a comedic humorist who is making his publishing debut with QUARANTINA, a satire of the current COVID19 pandemic, a very welcome reminder that ‘life is an entertaining event where we can find humor even in today’s universe.’ He recently added a new volume ILLUSTRATED TALES FOR THE EASILY ENTERTAINED, underlining his growing status as witty humorist who celebrates life through the use of offbeat humor.

While some may raise an eyebrow at satire about an event of the magnitude and consequences of the current global pandemic, Tatum accomplishes his mission to remind us that life is a fun event and deserves an altered view with a few laughs. His writing is so excellent that he creates what some have called a quodlibet (and whether you wish to define that musically or as an argument is up to each reader).

Refreshing in style, Tatum opens with the following: ‘In the cold silence of the Chinese winter, late in 2019, a deadly virus is released into the population of the City of Wuhan form a laboratory located within its borders. No mention of the release of the disease is made by the Chinese government. Some of the ore vigilant world governments, after hearing about a pneumonia breakout of unknown cause in Wuhan City form the World Health Organization (eventually names COVID-19, aka ‘The Wuhan Virus’; and easily-spread SARS-type disease.) managed to lessen the effects of the outbreak by quarantining citizens to stop the looming pandemic, which was stated to be worse than the Spanish flu of 1917. The Chinese government first blamed American soldiers…’ A factual introduction to the satire that follows!

On the back cover of the book, Tatum condenses the plot for us: ‘After a 'minor' viral type disaster from Wuhan China takes place, America shuts down daily business and all inhabitants are forced or are required in a strong fashion to self-quarantine. The Kovid family, who live somewhere in the Eastern US make the best of it through planned shopping maneuvers, family togetherness at dinnertime and the TV set. Mom and Dad Kovid have three sons aged 17, 16 and 13. The middle son has a sweetheart named 'Amber', who at the beginning of the quarantine is a patient on a hospital ship, and is dying from COVID-19, when a miracle takes place. While she is comatose and surrounded by doctors, her father speaks to her, but before he leaves her for possibly the last time, he tells her that a by named Ripp Kovid called. Her heartbeat picks up dramatically, and her eyes open. The astounded doctors believe she is now ready to be moved to hr local hospital. The story moves on from her miraculous recovery to the everyday obstacles of the Kovid’s, from bad oldie movies to a bad karaoke contest that leads to multiple hospital visits and an unexpected international enemy named ‘Daman’ who goes by the Americanized name of ‘Tom.’ The story ends in one final miracle for Amber and the last of many frustrating and coincidental run-ins with Tom.’

Wayne Tatum steps up with the courage required of a satirist and asks us to view our current status in a different manner. He is a keen observer, a wise sophist, and an exceptional satirist who presence is genuinely welcomed. Highly recommended.

If you’re like me and your sanity could certainly benefit from taking a step back from the negative and mentally draining current worldwide pandemic situation, this is a read you cannot miss out on. With a humorous and relatable tale that spares no one, Quarantina is a story that can be read over and over and still be enjoyable. Due to the developmental stages that follow along with the real-life current events, the stages experienced within the story give off a nostalgic feeling of my own experiences. Five stars from me here- you don’t want to miss out on this one. Read it now, then read it again when life returns to “normal” ….if we ever see such a thing….

Quarantina by Wayne Tatum takes a satire view of the pandemic our world has experienced with the Wuhan virus. A fictional family has the inconvenience of having the last name of Kovid when this virus hits. Grandpa, Ray, and Ryk takes a karaoke session too far when Grandpa gets sick and sent to the hospital. At that same time, Ripp is concerned for his girlfriend, Amber, who is on a cruise touring China's vast region. Her illness takes a mysterious turn when it looks as if she had giving up. Multiple characters in this short read get sick and then well, while the author entertains us with how this family keeps themselves amused. Then there is the vindictive and proud Tom whose self-importance is humorous. Overall, I enjoyed this refreshing book and the author's views on a subject that has overtaken our country.

This is the first book I’ve read about quarantine and then this book the Covid family find different ways to entertain themselves while quarantined I love grandpa, but Tom to be my least favorite character, but what they both have in common is they we’re both the cause mini LOL moments. Although not long this book. Although not long this book will be sure and brighten your mood on any day. Wayne Tatum is a satirist and comedian who I would be more than happy to read books by him in the future can’t wait for them to come. I highly recommend this book if you love laughter then you’ll love this book.

Mr. Tatum is a DonnaInk Publications author through our Laughingcleaver Press Imprint. Having known Wayne many years, and the fact he's a life-long story weaver, it is fortunate to have reacquainted through Facebook - to learn of his not yet being published - and then sharing this journey.

Both titles, with more to come, "Quarantina" and "Illustrated Tales for the Easily Entertained" are eclectic and engaging, fun and irreverent, yet acceptable for readers of all ages and this makes Mr. Tatum's titles rewarding for readers and his publisher.

"Quarantina" is absolutely enjoyable regarding a topic that has brought about so much angst - it is just refreshing. Thank you for joining Mr. Tatum on his comedic path and allowing him to lift your day. Visit www.donnaink.com for discounts and reduced costs when gifting this title to others who are under the COVID weather - this "is" just what the doctor ordered.
