I love Ava so much! Nikki Pennington gets better and better with each book she writes and Ava is the perfect example.
Ava Baker is a beautifully broken woman. From the outside looking in it looks like she has the perfect life. A family who loves her, a stepfather who is an ex pro baseball player, and a father who was a pro baseball player. But for Ava it's all a lie. Her mother left when she was in kindergarten, and her father died not long after. While she's never wanted for anything, she's wanted for everything. To not know your father means you'll never miss him but Ava knew him and he was an amazing father. So the pain from losing him runs deep. Her mother leaving was better, let's face it, Shay is amazing. But no matter how amazing she Ava will always know her mother didn't want her.
When Ava is once again faced with lose, the pain is just too much. All she wants is to be happy and feel happy again and life just keeps knocking her down. But sometimes life puts us through the worst kind of pain to prove how strong we are. And Ava Baker may have needed to be shown just how strong and deserving of life and love she is. When fate throws someone in front of Ava she tries to push him away. But sometimes we just need someone to push us back and show us how wrong we are.
Writing this review and not giving anything away is so hard. There's so much I want to say but don't want to ruin the book.
Nikki Pennington once again pulls at the heartstrings with Extra Innings. She made me fall in love with these characters and feel all of their feelings. I'm crying as I write this review remembering it all.
Extra Innings is a beautifully written story about love and pain. It's about learning how to heal from some of the worst pain a person could ever feel.
