Yeah, okay, LOOK. Crazy shit happens when you float through the library grabbing every book that pokes at your attention span. STOP JUDGING ME. I picked up David Sedaris, and Grimms Fairy Tales, too.
STOP JUDGING ME.
Did you know you can find old copies of People magazine online, if you hunt well enough? Yeah, go back to about 2005 and start reading in chronological order about these two, and you've read the entire book.
Seriously, this "writer" didn't even do a bit of research. Quoting verbatim from the magazine articles isn't writing, it's cut and paste. His "research" consisted of going to a mental institute.
This is by far the worst biography I have ever read. I was hoping to find some new facts, but it was all a cheap compilation of everything that the magazines quoted them saying! Which I have read during the years I've been her fan. Hell, I could have wrote that book myself! The only new fact I discovered was how Jennifer's dad was an asshole - but I'm sure I could've found that online. Cheap, cheap documentary and attempt at gaining fame and 'new insight'. It wasn't new insight, it was bullshit. Crap. And I just can't use enough of the word CHEAP. You are the worst investigative journalist ever Halpern! As Trump says, "YOU'RE FIRED!!!"
yes, i read it. it was a dirty, trashy, guilty pleasure.
It was so funny, it was mostly an unauthorized biography on Angie, and the author has no real facts nor has never met the couple. It was like reading a long article in US Weekly or Star, so I recommend this to Ginger. However, I will mail it to her if she wants it, because I find its not worth the money. The only reason I bought it was because it was employee appreciation week at the bookstore and I saved 40% on my purchase. I decided to display the book by the newstand so that other tabloid fans can find it in easy reach.
I found Halperin's views of Brangelina very interesting, although I'm not sure how true some of it was (how can we really?). Overall, though, it was an entertaining read, especially seeing as I don't care for biographies...
I purchased this book because I love Angelina. I must have been on glue to think this might actually be a decent or accurate portrayal of her in any way. I came away deeply offended by just about every classless insinuation and the shots taken at her character, morals, role as a mother, and as a woman. Half of the book wasn't even about her, nor was it about Brad. I found myself with jaws agape at the classless digs as to why she chose to adopt, and the timing of her choices. I know people that have adopted children from other countries, it doesn't happen overnight, and none of her adoptions did either. It took months for her to be able to bring Maddox home. She has talked about that in many interviews. I have NEVER heard her say that Zahara was an AIDS adoption, so that whole story offended the shit out of me. In its entirety, this book was no better than a stack of tabloids. It makes her father out to be someone fabulous, which I do not know if I buy. I'm sure he does love his kids, but he has an extremely odd way of showing it. I also found myself offended at the shots taken at her brother. I felt that the things that were said about Jennifer Aniston were offensive, especially the stories about what her parents are like and how she's been treated by them throughout her life and career. In all honesty, I don't feel she has anything to do with Angelina and she certainly has nothing to do with Brad any more, so I'll probably always wonder why there was so much pertaining to her in this book. If you want to learn about either of these people, either as a couple or individually, this is definitely not the book you're going to find truth in. If it was up to me, it wouldn't have even gotten the one star that it did. It doesn't deserve that much credence.
Last winter I read Ian Halperin’s biography, “Unmasked: The Final Years of Michael Jackson.” Just as in Mr. Halperin’s former revealing book, “Brangelina” held my captivated interest. However, “Brangelina” was much more about actress Angelina Jolie than about Brad Pitt. The book describes Jolie from her childhood growing up with a famous successful actor father, Jon Voight, to her own acting career, her relationships, to her philanthropy causes. As the author concludes, Angelina Jolie is a very complex woman, while Brad Pitt is more like the average nice guy that people can relate to. In reading this book, it reiterated for me many of the things that I had already read about the actress, but with Mr. Halperin giving more details and explanations.
Angelina seems to love her father very much. She was close to her mother who died about a year ago. She’s close to her brother James Haven. She seemed to have a good relationship to actor/director Billy Bob Thornton when she was married to him. She has done and said some unconventional things, like intimately kissing her brother on the lips during one year’s Oscar ceremony, claimed that she has had lesbian relationships, and cut herself which she says sexually excited her. Yet she continues to be a box office draw and the tabloids love writing about her and Brad, and I love reading about them.
I am not sure what to think about Angelina or Brad since it is really hard to feel like I know them even after this detailed book. However, their running around the world, aiding different causes, and just keeping busy, makes me envious of their freedom, fame and money. They certainly aren’t boring and their children are very fortunate.
I am all about gossip and loved this book! There were alot of things that haven't been published in the magazines and then there were some things that of course have been blasted all over them. I don't think this book was a waste at all, as it opened my eyes up about the TRUE Angelina and of course the TRUE Brad is portrayed as who we know him as today! While some of the information was a repeat I would say half the book was new gossip and I LOVE gossip as stated!
This was about the maximum intellectual stimulation my brain could handle this week. After reading it, I really dislike Jolie. Not for her outlandishness, which I think is great, but for her hypocrisy and lack of concern for others' feelings.
The writing is really ridiculous, turning everything into an either/or question, not seeing nuance, doing pointless undercover investigation. However, it's the collation of quotes that makes it worth buying for $1 at the dollar store and reading.
There were no particularly earth-shattering revelations in this book, but it was an interesting look at how Angelina Jolie went from slightly scary to hollywood royalty and the ultimate humanitarian. If you are looking for a biography about Brad Pitt, this isn't it. He only rates a couple of chapters.
This was like reading a year's worth of People magazine in one sitting. Still, very entertaining. My favorite part was learning that Billy Bob Thornton has a phobia about French antiques. He doesn't use real silver, and is "creeped out" by really old stuff, especially if it's from France, Louis XIV-vintage. Oooookay.
Repetitive, slow and boring - misleading in every way. This should have been called simply, "Angelina" - since the marjoity of the book focused on her overstated and uninteresting upbringing. A book that claims to have "inside information" on the couple, has little information whatsoever and comes to no conclusion at all.
Should we feel sorry for her, pity her, or feel disgusted by her? She seems insecure and not an authentic individual. Doing good deeds does not make a person, moral, honest, or ethical.....and it doesn't matter how it's spun. This book reads like tabloid journalism, although it brings out behind the scenes. I also question some of the author's methods of gathering info.
The title was a little misleading; the book was about 75% about Angelina before she met Brad ...... a little about Brad and Jennifer, and then the last couple of chapters about "Brangelina" ...... so all in all, not really informative about the couple per se.
it was an ok read. it seemed like the author wrote it fast, like had a deadline to meet. there was a lot of angelina background, wish there was more pitt background. it was an ok read.
Good book. Lots of info I already knew, but some new stuff as well. I'm glad it wasn't a book that was negative to brad and Angelina throughout. Good read all in all.
