Bone Dancer is the next instalment in the DI Giles series. Knowledge of the previous books isn't essential as it stands alone, but to best enjoy it and understand the relationships between the characters, its best to have that prior knowledge. Yvonne Giles isn't as hardened as one might expect from someone in her position and a reader can best appreciate this with knowledge of her back story.

The book starts with what Police originally think is a prank... a Skeleton, dressed up by the side of the road. Only this is no prank, the skeleton is real, but the evidence suggests this body has buried a long time. So, why is it now next to the road? This starts an intriguing mystery which spans years and different counties.

This book has a darker feel to it than some of the others by this author... the crime scene is really unusual, original and terrible... but, unlike other books of this genre, the reader is told enough to understand the horrific nature of this crime without pages and pages of graphic detail and description. In some ways, this allows your imagination to really take over.

In this book it feels like the relationships between the characters is stronger and more familiar - there is humour between them which I enjoyed. Yvonne isn't your typical DI - she's very human, jumpy and nervous while at the same time is determined and confident. We get some reminder of her past in this story which is important in understanding her better.

As with all books by this author, the pace is fast but not overly complex or difficult to read. I zoomed through this in an afternoon and thoroughly enjoyed it.

I received an advanced reader copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.

Never saw that coming

Wow did not see that coming, what a total shock. The author certainly knows how to lead you down the rabbit hole and you end up at the mad hatter's tea party so many twists that make the story flow and a total page turner. The series gets better with each book .

Bone Dancer

Another great read in this series, even though I had worked out the culprit very early on it didn't spoil the story for me.Just think its about time the main character D I Giles had a life apart from her work.
