CIA recruit Tasha North was assigned to draw out an unknown assassin and neutralize him -- to take whatever risks were required to accomplish her assignment. The ruthless killing machine had no conscience, no fear and a black hole for a heart, and he had targeted the dynamic head of the Colby private investigation agency for termination. But Tasha was determined to stop him at all costs.
She soon found out carnal seduction was the only way to reach the suspected killer. Years of rage and fantasies of revenge had destroyed any semblance of human emotion in him. Yet when he took Tasha in his arms, the two connected in the most basic man-woman way. Penetrating his personal fortress was the only hope she had...and she'd have to use her own heart as bait.

Striking Distance by Debra Webb
Reread. Old review!
Just have to say a few new things: first, this book is exciting, fast paced and suspensful. Second, after first reading, it was my GR friend Dita, who went on and on about this writer! Miss you Dita!
Great action-packed story, dark, gritty and extremely torrid! Lots of fun. Old review below.
My review:
I really have to recommend this book to romantic suspense readers as it was one of those rare books that I could not tear myself away from.
This book was both dark and poignant. It was also entertaining, as there were the occasional bits of humor thrown in. But by and large this is a nail biter and unputdownable .
It’s the first book I’ve ever read by Debra Webb but I really enjoyed it. I think now I will have to read more from her.
So what is this book about? Well, the book tells the story of Seth and Tasha.
Seth is a dark soul and a criminal and Tasha who works in law-enforcement has been given an assignment. She must penetrate Seth's world and get him to trust her. She must get close to him. As in intimately close to him, to get information.
I must mention this book has some really steamy scenes as in getting to the level of a Fifty Shades of Grey and isn’t going to be for everybody. If that bothers you, you most likely will not want to read this book as there is more then one scene like that. I loathed 50 shades of Gray but had no issues with the quantity of steamy scenes in this book. The plot was mesmerizing.
However if you can get past what I mentioned, there is a story in here and it’s excellent. This book combines the best of several genres : mystery, romance, crime redemption.. and out of that emerges a book that’s both entertaining and poignant.
I would give Striking Distance a strong 4.5. I was able to immerse myself in this book completely and look forward to reading more of this author’s works.
In this book of the Colby Agency series we assist to the consummation of Victoria Colby and Lucas Camp romance, after years of slow burning. Debra Webb’s sensitivity is shown in the way she links this older couple story with the younger one, and the relations she establishes with Victoria’s tragic past. Considering the parameters and the expectations one has of Harlequin books I would say this one reaches perfection in its almost 300 pages. I loved the multiple layers of meanings and readings of the story, some of them explored and developed in other books of the series: a scarred and tortured young hero (Seth/Jimmy) is healed with the help of strong heroines (Tasha, Victoria, this one also wounded) and of a very pragmatic, sexy (and damaged) older hero (Camp).
I have read and kept the whole Debra Webb " The Colby Agency" series. this is the best of the books. Really lets you feel the pain the Jim the son has had, physically and Mentally. He is damaged, yet can be healed with the love of a woman and his mother. I have reread this series and will keep doing so. Highly recommend the whole 56 books
I have read a great number of Debra Webb's series about the Colby Agency. I cannot believe that I never had the chance to read the story of finding the missing son Jimmy. I liked being brought up to date and of course the mystery envolved. Could not put the book down.
Was okay. I wanted to see more interactions between Seth and Tasha and multiple layers of personality. But there wasn't any in depth character bond so I couldn't really connect with the story and so much of it was occupied by Victoria and Lucas and I wasn't really interested to read about them.I know they were catalyst to the plot but I would have preferred them to be secondary characters and more focus on Seth and Tasha. They had very few interactions so the end didn't really satisfy me because I couldn't feel their bond.
I didn't realize that this book was a serial and that it was number 16. I haven't read the other 15. it wasn't too hard to pick up but I am not going to read all the other books in order to catch up. She has other series that are shorter that I will start from the begining.
