To my brother’s best friend, I didn’t mean to break the rules when I kissed you.
I’d like to blame the tequila. But the truth is I’ve been obsessed with you for years. Your brooding baby blues. That carved from marble jaw. Those Clark Kent glasses.
I tried to keep my crush under wraps. Believe me, I tried. For a long time I managed to follow the rules. I know you’re a heartbreaker. Completely unattainable.
I didn’t expect you to kiss me back. Or admit you wanted me too. I never thought you’d break the bro code. But you did.
Now, how are we going to tell my brother? XO, Lily
Book was written in dual POV. The hero (vale) is the heroine’s (Lilly) brother’s best friend. She has been in love with him since teenager years and finally in this book they are together. There is a HEA, no cheating, no OW/OM, mention of an ex who ends up in a twisted bizarre story. What I liked about the book, the sexy parts were spicy, but I liked there is a plot not only sex. What I liked: Some parts of the book were boring.
What I disliked: There is too much inner dialogue. The mystery about his past is resolved in the last two chapters and I didn’t see that coming, it was kind of stupid too he kept something like that and blamed himself. I also can’t quite be satisfied with the explanation why he likes red haired girls. He was a kind of complex character but all this was thrown in the last two chapters. Also the letters at the end although a cute gesture, I didn’t like he assumed he Wouk’s really read them before she left to the airport. I don’t know many details didn’t sit well for me. I felt rush that ending.
I liked book two the best. Makai. That was funny and really entertaining book.

I always wondered what it would be like to fall for my brothers best friend. This story told me to a tee what it would be like. Each page you found yourself falling in love with Lily and Vale and wanting them to tell her brother.
Just by being brought into the story you feel your emotions getting involved. Don't be surprised when things blow up and get exciting that you don't find yourself shedding a few tears. They just can't be helped.
Sometimes brothers need to learn to look at the bigger picture. Love is where it's at, just look in their eyes.
This was a good read. Lily has had a crush on Vale for a long time. She finally gets the courage to make a move. The problem is that Vale doesn't believe he is good enough for her. Of course they have a thing anyways and things get messy. Thankfully in the end everything works out and they get a happy ending.
I definitely think the last book was the best in this series. I have read through book 5, which is the newest as of now. Hudson remains the best book boyfriend. However, Vale's attraction to Lily seems to have a bit more grit to it. He's definitely a more manly man.
One thing I hate about this series is the inconsistent and large time jumps. Some things will happen the same days and sometimes you start a new chapter and a week, weeks, a month, or months have passed. I think it is OK to have one big time jump and differing between a day and a week is normal but jumping months then a few days and then a week and then months again messes with the flow of the story. I found it particularly frustrating in this book.
This series, as a whole, has lacked a certain something that would take it from good to great. A great book is something you want to tell all your friends to read. These are more afternoon or beach reads. None have taken as long to read as what the Kindle app tells me they will tale, which is unusual unless it is a certain type of book.
I enjoyed this about the same as book two.
I will keep reading Ms. Murphy's books but she isn't a drop everything and read her newest book caliber author. I also hope she gets a better editor that fixes the misuse of personal pronouns and the hoards of missing commas. No writer is perfect. These errors fall on the editor's shoulders. Ms. Murphy is British and they treat collective nouns as plural in the UK, which gets me crazy but isn't wrong. I do wish that British authors would write using American grammar rules when writing books based in the US. I also expect for British writers to all have perfect grammar, for some odd reason. But, I have found the opposite with KU writers. They seem to all make similar errors that are still errors using UK grammar rules.
The story wasn't bad, but didn't have the extra oomph to give it a 5. The Australian slang vs American terms really threw it off again (like the 3rd book too, but I didn't notice it as much in the first two). And while in this book, one character did reference Australian terms from being from there, that wasn't the case for all the characters so it really didn't fit in and work well. :/ This one also had a couple typos that threw me off too.
Otherwise, it was good. Pretty typical forbidden little sister story and then the brother blows up when he finds out but accepts them for being in love. Hud and Jane weren't my favorite story. Hud is a bit too emotional for me personally. And at times during his book I wondered if he was gay/bi. Lol.
Anyway, Lil and Vale had a cute romance where they put each other first in the impossible situations and it worked out well for them. I did like the wrap up they did for Vale's family history too though I was surprised there wasn't more of a wrap up for Lil's mom. I expected her to make another appearance. 🤷🏼♀️
I'm not sure if I will continue with Arrow's story or not. I need to read the synopsis on his. I'm not very vested in him after this book. It really was the first four that reeled me in based on who they all were and how they interacted / knew each other. So I may stop here... I should know in about 5 minutes since I'm quite finished with this review. 😂
Loved this book, definitely on my list for a re-read. Add it to your book binge list today!!
One of my favorite tropes - Brothers Best friend and Misti Murphy does an absolutely brilliant job of making you love Lilly and Vale. The chemistry between them is off the charts! Love this book, definitely on my list for a re-read. Add it to your book binge list today. Happy reading everyone!!
I absolutely loved this one, we all had that crush on that one boy who you thought hung the moon, this book brought back all those memories, I am so glad that Vale and Lilly finally got their happy ending, we all knew that Hud was going to be a spanner in the works but once he knew the story he backed his boy up, looking forward to the next one.
What happens when you fall in love with your best friend's little sister? Breaking Bro Code. While everyone is able to change, it is hard for big brother to believe his manwhore of a friend would ever be worthwhile of his little sister, and likes to remind his friend all the time of this fact! Little sister doesn't help the situation when having a huge crush on brother's best friend for years! This book was a page-turner that I loved reading!
Vale meets his match in Lily, too bad she is Hud's little sister. I liked the friendship between Lily, Lewis and Kiki (LLK). Vale needs to trust people, and his back story finally comes out. Lily is grown up and needs her brother to realize that. The obsession with food in this story is hilarious.
That was an unexpected reason for him to be closed off but hey things like that happen. I felt it was a pretty good read. I did notice it talked about him having a tattoo but the guy on the cover doesn't have one 🤷♀️
I loved this friends to lovers/brother’s best friend romance!
I’ve read two books from this series, starting with number 3. Each book has been funny, sweet and thoroughly enjoyable. I’ve enjoyed reading about the characters from the first two books so I’ll have to go back and read them.
This one was a heart wrencher! Loved Lily and Vale, they were so good together. The back story for Vale was a bit of a surprise but loved the tale! Looking forward to the next one.
I’ve been enjoying the series thus far. I haven’t done a review on the other books but this one compelled me to because it’s my favourite so far. Good mix of cute, wholesome love along with dashes of spice and a bit of angst. Really nice, easy read that draws you in and keeps the pages turning.
First off the brother needs to learn to back off. It was a sweet roller coaster ride. The falling in love. The way they shared a connection but not realizing just how much they love each other.
Loved this book! Lily and Vale were awesome characters! Hud, Cal, and the rest of the guys are pretty awesome too! The storyline was so awesome. Don't miss it!
What I loved😍: I LOVED Vale - he was sweet, vulnerable, and had some grit; Lily showing Vale that he deserves to be loved after a tragic past; the chemistry between Lily and Vale - loved their banter; great best friend’s sister story
What stood out😱: I love a good texting/dating app trope, so Violet Queen and Cap’n Crunch talking and learning more about each other was a great addition to the story
What I didn’t enjoy🤨: A lot of her books have time jumps, but for some reason they seemed more inconsistent and harder to follow in this one
Breaking Bro Code Line ‘Em Up #4 Misti Murphy ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
We’ve all heard the saying, bro code, no dipping with the little sister, bro’s before h… well you get the message! But sometimes you just have to break those rules for the end result. Older brothers, little sisters, older brothers best friends, it’s been around for centuries, and Vale is about to test his boundaries with best friend, Hud’s little sister. Vale has always been around Hud and Lily, he’s a permanent fixture around his work, their home well always! He knows the rules about dating Lily, and that was fine until he realised that the feelings he had for her, and very much reciprocated.
Lily has been in love with Vale since forever, he’s always around. His sexy body and those black glasses make him even more perfect in her eyes, yet older brother Hud has other ideas, so when they make that decision to pursue each other behind Hud’s back it’s fun, it’s Sexy, it’s almost forbidden making it more fun. But that fun comes to a screaming halt when they get busted! Imagine the fireworks, imagine the chest beating of big brother… yep it’s all there, culminating in an explosion if epic proportions!
Bringing their relationship into the open is one thing, overcoming all that comes with it is another! In a humorous ride, Vale and Lily will steam up the pages with egg sandwiches, jalapeños, dating apps, Capt’n Crunch, Sailor Mars, Bar dancing, interior design, trust me it all makes sense once you read…. And it’s definitely worth every page…. While everyone seems perfect on the outside, it’s what’s in the inside that counts!
Misti Murphy has a gift in writing the best book boyfriends. Vale is no exception. He is hot, sexy, and loves with his whole heart - all while being completely screwed up. And Lily is an awesome character - driven, strong-willed, sassy as hell, and she fits with Vale because she, too, loves with her whole heart. If only Vale wasn't Lily's brother Hudson's best friend - and hadn't been warned away from Lily for all the years they have known each other. But when two people are meant to be together...
Vale and Lily have ridiculously hot chemistry. However, beyond that, they have a strong friendship. Vale is as protective of Lily as her brother, only Vale is protecting her from himself. He does not believe he is capable of giving her what she deserves, so he holds her at arm's length - until he just can't anymore. When they get together, they are explosive. And then they have to deal with trying to hide it from Hudson. But the thing about secrets ... There are lots of them that come out in this book, and every one is revealed in creative and strategic - and highly entertaining - ways.
Misti Murphy knows how to intricately handcraft a story and develop characters that are so likable even when they are frustrating you to no end. She also creates couples that are so authentic, you wish you could crawl through the pages and join them for a night at Line 'Em Up. Whether or not you have read every book in this series, or have just stumbled upon Ms Murphy, you will not be sorry about immersing yourself in the Line Up world for a few hours.

“I’m not a nice guy.” Vale shrugs. Can’t even look me in the eyes. “But you knew that already.”'
“I don’t know that.” I shake my head and shove my hand into his chest. “The guy I grew up around is not that mean. He’s a nice guy who would protect me from jerks like you.”
“That’s what I was doing,” he says.
“Oh. That’s what you were doing?” The pitch of my voice rises higher than my eyebrows as I stare at him in disbelief.
“Yes.” He returns, his own voice calm and steady as though his response is so well-rehearsed as to be ingrained.
“I don’t even know what that means.” I throw my hands up. “You’re trying to protect me from jerks? Or from you?”
“Now, you’re getting it,” he says.
“So you’re saying you’re a jerk?”
“Lil,” he sounds frustrated. “What else would you call it? I kissed you. My best friend’s sister. My closest female friend. And I stuck my tongue down your throat with nothing but the intent to know exactly how you taste.”
I loved Vale and Lily's story, I've been waiting in anticipation for the next Line 'Em Up book and it didn't disappoint. There's something so appealing about the chemistry between brother's best friend and little sister especially when said brother has warned his best friend time and time again that his sister is 'off limits'. Vale and Lily have been fighting their feelings for each other for years and denying what was plain to see to all their friends. I'll admit, I may have shed a tear or two for this pair.....it was so obvious that they were meant to be together but both of them were struggling to admit their true feelings for fear of scaring the other off. In Vale's case he also had the added pressure of breaking the 'bro code' with his best friend Hud mixed with what had happened in his past made it extra hard for him to commit to anyone. Loved it from start to finish!
This is an intriguing love story. Vale and Hudson are best friends, Lily is Hudson's little sister. Hudson has repeatedly warned Vale away from Lily, because Vale isn't good enough for her. And though Vale is attracted to, he'd never risk the fallout of his going after her. Lily has always seen Vale as another older brother she can gang up with against Hud. So one night at the weekly family dinner, which Vale always go to, she decides that she wants to irritate Hud, by flirting with Vale. The next thing Vale knows Lily is kissing him. Freaking out a little bit, Vale decides it's time to try out the app a friend designed to help meet people. He starts talking to Violet Queen, as Cap'n Crunch. They get along well, but it doesn't stop him from thinking about Lily. The drama of their budding relationships is funny and entertaining. It's a very cute story.
Manwhore Vale knows the number one Bro Code, “Do not mess with the little sister.” He’s avoided all attachments for years, so he never thought he’d have trouble with that one. Unfortunately, his heart didn’t get the memo. Now he fells like he’s between a rock and a hard place, between his best friend and the woman he loves.
Lily has loved Vale for years, but she never thought she had a chance. Especially since her brother chases off any man that comes close at to her at Line ‘Em Up, most especially Vale. When she realizes she may have a chance with him she goes for it. But she doesn’t know his whole story, no one does. And when she’s given the chance of a lifetime to follow her dream, his past is the thing that comes between them.
5 stars is not enough for this amazing story by Misti Murphy. Lily has crushed on her brother's best friend since she was a teenager but Vale has never shown any interest in her other that as a little sister. Vale doesn't do relationships for a reason and only has one night stands. He does not see himself as worthy of anyone. But Lily is now a grown woman and she is tempting him more than ever. And its getting harder and harder to resist Lily. But the ever threats from her brother Hud of what will happen if he touches Lily keep echoing in his mind. Will Lily and Vale find their HEA or will Lily get her heart broken? And will Hud ever accept his best friend and sister as a couple? Cannot wait to read more!!!
Hudson Kelly is going over the rules of the Bro Code again with his best friend, Vale, as he warns him away from his sister, Lily. Hud can’t really know anything. They have been careful. But sweat rolls down his face.
Lily has loved Vale for a very long time. But her over-protective brother chases everyone away from her. And most especially he keeps Vale away from her. Vale and Lily have always been fighting their feelings for each other for years. Vale also had issues from his past. But when the two of them finally realize that they both want the other, there is no stopping them! What will Hud do when the “bro code” is broken? Are Lily and Vale ready to stand up for their love, even against Hud?
Lilly has been half in love with her brothers HUD best friend Vale since she was13. Hud has 1 major rule...stay away from my sister. One drunken night for Lilly changes everything when she fills Vale in on her feelings. Now she’s all he can think about and the secret relationship starts. Vale has a tragic past that he has never shared with anyone because he thinks no one would forgive him like he can’t forgive himself. That’s why he is a commitment-fobe. But Lilly breaks through, but everything comes crumbling apart when secrets come to light. This is the 4th book in the series The Line Up, and each is a stand-alone but the characters reappear in each which is nice.

I love this series. Each and every one can be read as a stand-alone but previous characters do pop up and if you’re anything like me I just want to read everyone’s story. Vale initially comes across as a bit of a player but that doesn’t stop Lily from crushing on him hard. He is very hard on himself - due to his past - and doesn’t think he deserves someone like Lily and also fears ruining his relationship with Hudson. All the characters in each story are absolutely wonderful to read and I have everything crossed that there will be more books to come. I voluntarily reviewed an advanced readers copy of this book.
We finally get Vale and Lily’s story. And it will rock your world! Lily is oh so sweet abs sassy and she won’t put up with Vale and his indecisiveness. She done being just the friend she wants more. Thankfully Vale seems like he’s on the same page. But life isn’t always easy so their love story is a roller coaster.
The author will tear your heart out throughout this book. I felt a bit raw by the end. But she does redeem herself in the end because what an ending it is. You can’t help but love this book from beginning to end. And I can’t wait for more from this series.
