I really, really loved this one! It reminded me a lot of Reign of the Seven Spellblades, but it's so much better.
The story begins 2,000 years in the past. There is an exceptionally powerful demon who is facing off against a hero. They both feel they are in the right, but they both want the fighting to end, and the demon - whom the people have begun calling the Demon King because of his great power - seems to be the only one who recognizes the fighting will never cease if both sides continue as they have. His plan is to divide the realms so humans and demons are kept apart by a great wall for a thousand years. He believes that once that much time has passed, the people will forget their past grudges and move on. Then the walls will come down, and after another thousand years he will be reincarnated into the merged world. The human hero agrees to these terms so the Demon King sacrifices himself to create a new world.
Fast-forward two-thousand years. The Demon King is reborn and maintains all his powers and memories. But he realizes that he is helpless as an infant so immediately makes himself into a young child. His parents think he's just a large baby. Then an owl carrying an invitation to a magical school arrives (HAHA!) and he realizes that to attend the school he needs to be a teenager, and he ages himself up again. His parents also see nothing strange about this. (They're not too bright.)
So the plot revolves around this magic school. All the Demon King's descendants (technically they're the descendants of the demons he created, not his own personal descendants) attend the school and compete in trials to determine their class rank and to prove they are the one true Demon King reincarnated. It's really funny because he goes around telling everyone he is the real incarnation of himself, and NOBODY BELIEVES HIM. He's so much more powerful than the other students, he kills them during the trials and then resurrects them, and they still don't believe him. There is a magical crystal after the combat portion of the trials, which is supposed to read your aura and tell you by a numerical system what your power level is. His power is so strong the crystal bursts when he approaches it, and consequently he is assigned a power level of 0! Everyone is afraid of him because of his powers, but no one believes he is truly the reincarnation of the original Demon King. He is an outcast at the school with only one friend, the first student he happened upon when he arrived at the school, and he is labeled a misfit.
My favorite thing about the manga is watching him completely demolish the other students in competition. His skills are so amazing he knows spells they haven't even heard of, yet everyone keeps testing him before finding out the hard way they don't even compare. Apparently the bloodlines between humans and demons have mixed over the last thousand years since the barrier came down, diluting magic. Everyone is a weakling compared to the original Demon King. He even corrects his teachers in class. It was especially funny when he told one teacher, "I could teach this class for you, if you like." XD
The one friend he makes in school is a really interesting character. His parents think they're dating just because she's a girl and they won't listen when he tries to set them straight. I think her character is going to have an intriguing backstory when it gets explored. A plot twist regarding her origins is revealed at the end of this volume and it made me gasp!
I've ordered the rest of the series. Can't wait for more of this one! I hope the novels get brought over but I'm not sure if Square-Enix does novels... Fingers crossed. This manga is hilarious and so entertaining.
This story is just as it is described and similar to many stories where the Demon king is reincarnated into the same world.
That being said the differences so far include him actually telling others right off the bat who he is but no one believes him and his accelerated growth spell.
Needless to say he is an OP character and has a firm grasp of magic within this world. Some spells of course were forgotten by time.
Pretty standard tropes all around but was satisfying to read and see. There was one aspect regarding the timeline I found interesting that made things tie in together nicely.
Anyway, this was an enjoyable read and would reccomend it to anyone interested in this genre. The only down side I can think of here is where it left off (cliff hanger) and that I can't find the light novel for this story yet.
The motto: "Everyone is ignorant and the protag is the only right/smart one."
That describes the entire first volume. History isn't accurate to what actually happened 2000 years before (unsurprisingly) and so the protag, the reborn Demon King, has to prove himself to all of his haters and doubters.
He also thinks nothing of killing and resurrecting people and oh, you don't do that all the time? Because apparently there are no consequences... What??
Lastly, his parents are very, very unrealistic. He grows himself up with magic to be a teen from being one month old. No, that is not expected.
Interesting premise (the reincarnated and at academy concept) but there are just too many issues.
the demon king is sooo much hotter in the manga than the anime . . . and adorable as a little boy, which wasn't covered in the anime. the anime is a lot of fun, but I'm definitely liking the manga better.
It’s ok - Anoth is funny in his own way (not as intended) but the world building is weak and he’s so OP that there’s no tension. Not to mention that his descendants seem to be pretty stupid - if I saw someone who did the spells that he did, or shattering the testing crystal, I might be wary of being a jerk to him. Not to mention babbling about high bloods 🙄 I assume that the seven demons he made went on to…make more of themselves with magic and blood, thus believing they are “high bloods” aka more “pure” and some of them ended up procreating with humans, thus making “mixed bloods.” I mean…in 2000 years, you don’t think the bloodlines need a little refresh??
This entire review has been hidden because of spoilers.
This has the absolute classic fantasy light novel problem where everything would be a hell of a lot more interesting if the protagonist wasn't so ridiculously strong.
The positives here are that the protagonists parents are pretty amusing comedy foils and that the author actually tries to do some emotional writing but that's not enough to make the book good. Hell half of the parents jokes about genre cliche romance happening when the protagonist brings a female classmate home are just true by the end of this short volume.
The premise of the story is that the demon King was always misunderstood. He got bored with winning all the time, so decided to get reincarnated. But when he was reincarnated, the stories passed on about who he was just made others not believe he was who he said he was. He was a misfit, and the tale is all about how both he and a young girl became friends in their misfit way.
First off, totally didn't realize this was a manga, it has my usual complaints of manga, to short and not enough detail, the best part in my opinion was the short story at the end. Overall it's a decent start, covers about at much as I would expect from the first episode of an anime..
I love this! Read this after finishing the anime and I love all the characters especially Anoth (Anos). To me the premise is really intriguing and I like how the story and world as a whole is put together. I like the concept of his reincarnation and what the world looks like 2000 years in the future.
This book has very obvious pros and cons.. Now that I’m actually writing the review I’m not so sure this book deserves three stars anymore but, whatever.
Pros- Interesting plot, unique. It’s a cool perspective, from an ancient demon king’s eyes who hasn’t seen this world for 2,000 years. The art is cute.
Cons- Everyone at this academy is siblings, so they should not be catching feelings for anyone. The love interest for the MC so far is his super great granddaughter. She’s also written like a robot. Only other main female character is a stereotypical mean girl.
“Lighthearted rom com” covers it pretty well. Everyone brushing off his knowledge and other OP-ness is hilarious and there’s lots of shipping potential (which involves some fan service but since it is equal opportunity enough to include guys and gals it was more amusing than annoying). Oh, and the parents of the reincarnated strongest demon king? Are worth a whole star in this rating.
The comedy is the only thing that saved this from the edgy setting of dark magic academy trying to raise the next demon lord. I'd already seen the anime but had this lying around. The main theme is the OP MC butting heads with arrogant aristocratic bullying. His doting parents as comedic relief were the best part for me.
Didn’t realize this was a manga, but it’s a fun read and the story is interesting. Was looking for a light novel but oh well, looking forward to the res of the series.
This is pretty fun,,, I'm interested in where the story will go but it does feel like a typical op fantasy protagonist story. I do like Anoth though?? Idk
Cute, fun first volume. I like the characters so far, and the premise seems interesting. This volume was mainly background/set-up but it was well-written and fun. I look forward to continuing the series.
There were things that didn't make sense, and it's a bit darker than I like. And the women are drawn a little too provocatively for my taste. Still, really fun and interesting. There's obviously a lot they can do with this idea
For the first volume, this series look promising. Reborn to the future, one month but already became teenager, and an overpowered character. Usually this kind of series would be bored already, but the mysteries contain look promising.
Anoth, the demon king, gets reincarnated and attends school where his entrance exams have him with so much power, people are confused and label him as a “misfit”. The only one at the school. His only friend is Misha, who is told by her sister that’s she’s only a doll.
Honestly great manga! This is the first manga I have ever read and let me just say I read this in an hour!! It is so good and the humor and action combo is so enjoyable! I recommend for anyone looking to start reading manga.
