William Aloysius Keane, better known as Bil Keane, was an American cartoonist notable for his work on the long-running newspaper comic The Family Circus, which began its run in 1960 and continues in syndication.
I started reading The Family Circus comics at a very young age. I used to own a lot of the books. Many I checked out from the library. This book is full of a plethora of my favorite cartoons by Bill Keane. Some of them make me laugh out loud, some of them make me chuckle, some take me back to my childhood and bring back so many fond memories. They also remind me of the time when all of my children still lived at home and of all of the chaos and laughter that time in my was filled with. I checked this book out from my local library because I was feeling nostalgic and wanted to take a trip back to a simpler time. I am incredibly glad I did. I love The Family Circus so much. I believe I may have to start collecting the books again. This one would be a perfect place to start.
I have always loved and devoured the family circus. This is a book of the fan favorites and the cartoonist also. The fan letter on the front and back were interesting. I have some of the 80’s memorabilia in my house. This was gotten on a whim a the library but will soon be added to my home library soon. Makes me want to get more books.
This one is definitely a keeper – Mr. Keane has pasted a whole bunch of requests by reader’s for their favorite cartoons all over the inside front and back cover. The book has 120 pages of full color BESTS of the Family Circus. And through the years they were always my favorite and first looked for. Made me smile and was delighted I had finally found a copy of it!
We like this cartoonist. My mother even read it cover-to-cover as soon as I brought it home. There's more cartoons with a religious them than is usual for his work ... probably because this was published by Guideposts.
Billy: Know what I like about books? You can have as many instant replays as you want.
This is really cute, sweet stuff that made me smile. As another reviewer observed, this collection is very heavy on the religious-themed comics. That said, It was all still adorably inoffensive.
If you just need a pick-me-up on a dreary day or need to relax and smile awhile, Keane's Family Circus will accomplish both. Heartwarming subjects and insights that most people can relate to.
