***PLEASE NOTE - THIS IS A RE-RELEASE AND IS A DARK ROMANCE NOVEL AIMED AT MATURE READERS***
"I'm a hopeless romantic with a dark side. Be warned, I may give my characters their Happily Ever After, but I make them work hard for it!"
Laura is a self-confessed geek. She has always had a wild imagination and a sense of creativity that often runs away with her, engrossing her for days in many a story that haunts her thoughts until it eventually makes it to the page. An avid rock music fan, Laura spends most of her free time listening to music at home or going to concerts with her friends, and this love of music often makes its way into her creative writing.
I can't remember the last time i treated myself to a dark romance and ive definitely missed it in my reading diet.
I won't say much as I personally like to go into dark romance blindfolded (wink) but I really enjoyed this. I love a dominant drugs lord, a captive girl and questionable (or no) consent plot line filled with sex scenes that are a bit more imaginative than being slammed against a wall and this book delivered.
4 stars. Looking forward to reading the second book in this duology.
When Laura Morgan contacted me regarding a review of one of her books, I was intrigued by them being described as dark. Forever Lost jumped out at me immediately. Drug dealers and gangsters sounded to be perfectly right up my alley, and since I had taken a little detour from my regular YA reads, I decided to continue that and jump right in.
What first grabbed me about Forever Lost was the authors writing. It was easy to read and flowed really well. I liked that I was immediately able to immerse myself into the story and I liked the characters. And very quickly I was reminded that this book was a long way from YA and even the New Adult books that I'd been reading of late. Even as I found the sexual escapades that were occurring a bit out of the blue, I wasn't fazed. To the contrary, I was actually enjoying it.
Unfortunately, at about the halfway point the story took a turn into the realms of the unbelievable. I just found myself unable to picture the events in any way realistic. I have no doubt that bad things happen. That there are men who are as controlling as Victor was. That drug lords and gangsters are a part of our world. But I just couldn't grasp any threads of realism in the twists and turns of the story.
I found Cassie to be a little on the unstable side. The decisions and the choices that she made had me scratching my head in confusion. The events of her past should have made her shy away from the world of drug dealing that she was introduced to, but instead she almost embraced it. Then there were her feelings for the men in her life... She seemed to change her opinions as quickly as the wind. I couldn't really understand her.
To be completely honest, the character who I liked the most was Victor. I don't want to give away what his role is in the story but let's just say that I think he was the character that I was supposed to despise. And I did. But I just found him to be the most consistent out of an unstable bunch of characters.
So, my star rating... Well the first half of this book was incredibly enjoyable, and I could have easily given it four stars, but unfortunately the second half let it down somewhat for me. I suppose I'm sitting somewhere around the two and a half to three star mark for the first half of the story and the authors writing style.
2.5-3/5 Stars.
Thank you so much to Laura Morgan for providing me with a copy of Forever Lost for review.
Cassie, coming from a broken marriage at the hands of Jonah and his drug use and violence towards her leaves her with both physical and emotional scars. But when she's given the chance to boost her confidence and be made to feel like a woman again, despite her initial worries, she doesn't look back.
Hearing so much about the mysterious Leo Solomon, big time gangster, Cassie immediately takes a dislike to the man from the thought of him alone. She wasn't prepared for actually meeting him...
Excerpt: There was something about Leo that Cassie found herself drawn to, though. Underneath his unfeeling, uncaring exterior she sensed something pure in him...
But as their relationship continued, Cassie struggled with her past hurt and struggled to let go of her past, but could she drop her mask and walls long enough to let anyone else in after all she had been through? Not to mention the entirely different lifestyles they both led...
Excerpt: ...I'm not the type of girl who can live in your world without breaking. I'm the cheap wine and jellybeans kinda girl, not the champagne and cocaine hooker...You'll soon grow tired of me telling you no, and then you'll resent me for having been a waste of your time and effort.
But naturally the dark world of drugs, escorts and blood catches up to the new couple and cruelly a at he's away Cassie's first chance of happiness. Victor, a Mexican cartel/mafia boss who has lost all concept of life and love and write from wrong. With so making games from lives and misery, Cassie and Leo are caught up in his twisted mind.
Excerpt: No was never an option for any of them, but I never wanted that for you. I want to make love to you, but never force you. I want you to scream yes, but never tell me no....
Victor has got to be one of the darkest and most frightening characters you have ever known. To say I felt hooked on reading more whilst feeling utterly scared witless from this fictional character and knowing how truly twisted he is. What he is capable of.
Cassie and Victors journey is a frightening one and as much as its one of the darkest moments in her life, he does make her lose her demons over her ex husband...and he did show a side we never knew. But underneath it his crazy side was never far behind...
A truly gripping read and I'm so pleased I finally managed to read this (despite it being on my kindle for nearly six months!). The cover is stunning but doesn't portray the darkness within this books pages. I could actually talk about this book all day but you need to read and appreciate it for yourselves. An incredible read and I can't wait to move onto Laura Morgan's other books.
Final excerpt: Her scars ran deep, but she would wear them on her sleeve, and never let anyone give her fresh ones.
Five star read without a doubt.
*review by Susan **Suggested for over 18s - caution: does contain drug use, and physical and sexual violence throughout. ***I won this ebook and all opinions are my own
Received a complimentary copy in exchange for an honest review.
I absolutely loved this book. It's so very different from any of the other books Laura has written (which are also amazing). The storyline is very hard hitting and emotional with issues that women can and do face in real life, but it's done with taste and the respect it deserves. I was gripped from the first line and i couldn't put it down (burnt myself cooking dinner. I really need to learn not to read while cooking). My heart was crying for the female lead after learning of her past. There are so many twists and turns I didn't know which way was up. Nothing went as i thought it would. I couldn't even second guess at what direction it would take. (even dreaming of the book when i finally put it down to get some sleep). Definitely worth reading.
Laura is a highly talented and has now proved to be a very versatile author and I recommend all of her books. Thank you for a thrilling ride Laura, I'm really looking forward to book 2
This book has changed my life. My writing is dark, steamy and sometimes harsh - but up until Forever Lost I'd stayed within the Dark Fantasy genre, where anything goes because the worlds are wholly fictional along with the characters, so it's easy to desensitise yourself from the chaos. Forever Lost is a real-world tale of two people, Cassie and Leo. They are two everyday human beings who get swept up in crazy, wonderful, and terrible scenarios. I Loved writing this story, and will be continuing with Cassie's tale. Get ready for a roller-coaster ride of emotions! x
This book is not going to be everyone's cup of tea. It deals with abuse, both mental and physical and also substance abuse. Having said that, this was a story with a bit of a difference, and I really quite enjoyed it. Our leading lady, Cassie, is on a bit of a journey of self discovery. She is trying to recover from a very serious assault inflicted upon her by her (now) ex-husband. They were married at the time. She has been living in an apartment (for about a year), with a friend who is an escort. It really isn't quite as seedy as it sounds and, to be fair, escorts are people too, and everyone needs to make a living :) Cassie's roomie, Hanna, has been trying for some time, to get Cassie to attend one of the 'parties' that she frequents, to no avail. Hanna has a 'boyfriend' called Jamie. Nice guy really, but he works for a criminal. Cassie decides to give the escort business a go. Don't put on that frowny face... She only participates in the 'keeping men company' part of the job. Talking to them and rebuilding her self confidence at the same time. You will understand her motives once you start reading the story :D Eventually Hanna and Jamie convince Cassie to attend a party at Jamie's boss' house ...... This is where things begin to both come together and unravel for Cassie. She finds herself attracted to Jamie's scary drug dealing boss, Leo Solomon, and after a time they become an item. Unfortunately, for Cassie, this puts her in the line of fire from one of Leo's shady business partners. This is where the story takes a bit of a twist and, without giving anything away, Cassie becomes a woman that she no longer likes very much. It gets to the point that she has convinced herself that she might be able to be happy in her new little prison, but one day, she realises that she has completely lost herself and allowed herself to be totally dominated by the man in her life. It is sad to watch her kill herself off in order to survive and my heart broke for Cassie while I watched the monster in her life entirely crush her spirit. I really, really hated that abusive bully and I wanted to see her knight in shining armour come to the rescue ... I know .... Very sexist, but there was no way she was going to be able to save herself. After it's all said and done, there is a chance that Cassie may rise from the ashes of her life like the mythical phoenix, and take back what was so ruthlessly torn from her.... But if you want to know the who? How? Why? and When? .... You will have to read the story for yourself :) Some of it was a little difficult to read (because of the subject matter) but honestly ... It was absolutely worth the read. I will be looking for more from Laura Morgan.
So... I don't think I really knew what I was signing up for when I started reading Forever Lost. When they say "Don't judge a book by its cover" I would have to agree! I was expecting something totally different, but I was not disappointed! I will say if your looking for a light hearted story, this isn't for you. If you don't like scenes with girl on girl, this isn't for you. But, if your able to look past that and your looking for a story about a girl that will do anything she can to survive, then this one is for you! Because even though Cassie found herself in a situation that she never would have imagined, Cassie does everything she can to make her life as livable as possible. I'm not sure if I would have been able to adapt to the twist and turns that took place as fast as she did. This story will keep you on your toes the entire time! It may have some hard limits for some, but it was a good story, and I'm looking forward to starting Forever Loved to see how Cassie's story ends!
This is the first time for me reading a book by Laura Morgan. I was very impressed with her writing style, the plot and all the twists and turns along the way. The story line was unique and engaging. It kept me on my toes, trying to guess what would happen as the story evolved.
This was a real page turner and I kept hoping that Cassie would find her happy ending after all she had to endure from her ex-Husband Jonah and her captor Victor. She gave up her freedom in life in a selfless act to save her friends, Hannah and Jamie and her lover Leo.
Some very hot sex scenes were burning up the pages, HOT HOT HOT. I would totally recommend this book to others and look forward to reading more from this author.
I've met Laura at book signings throughout this year and she's a lovely person, but this is my first encounter with one of her books.
Although I enjoyed the storyline and found Cassie's time with Victor was drawn out. I particularly loved the ending, it was different to your usual HEA and it was explosive.
I liked the characters, they're all strong minded, feisty, arrogant people. Cassie found herself involved with Mafia drug Lords and the lifestyle threatened to ruin and break her. And it eventually did.
I admit I liked the storyline but something about this book was missing. I found I couldn't stay concentrated on the book for a lengthy period. But through sheer curiosity, I carried on reading til the very end and I'm glad I did.
Wow, after really enjoying this author's other books, i knew i had to give this one a go. There are no angels or demons here, only people with dark sides to them in the same way we all see every day. I was gripped by this story and truly felt for Cassie, and wanted the best for her. I cannot wait to see if there is a follow up. Not sure why there are low ratings for this book, i loved it
Wow! This was one book that unfortunately kept getting pushed further and further down my kindle through no fault of its own and I am soooo glad I was reminded of it.
Brilliant book that I just could not put down. Loved every second of it and was gutted when I finished it and just wanted more of Cassie and Leo
Fantastic read and definitely worth the time to read
Well this was supposed to be dark (ish?) romance with such a great reviews (which convinced me to borrow the book) well..... utterly disappointed. Clearly the author needs to familiarize herself with what dark romance is although she seems to have written other dark books (which I haven't read) so maybe this is the only one. I just could not feel any excitement while reading this book. The atmosphere created completely off, drug dealer boss Leo, who was supposed to be what it says on the tin (strong, ruthless, menace, appropriate for him language etc.) was absolutely not, his character resembled billionaire boss who instantly fell in love with Cassie and was soft puppy. I'm afraid it totally put me off. When you have heroes like that they have to behave in a certain way to be believable.
Since the author in this book failed to create believable, exciting and gripping story with characters who live up to readers expectations I cannot award more than 2 stars and this only because I respected this author effort. I'm afraid I left the story half way through and won't be reading part two.
I would not recommend this book to readers who are looking for good quality dark romance and expect to be blown away by the story line.
If you like your erotica, this book has lots of it. If you like your hero to be a bad boy, then Leo is right here.
Although it was written well, I could finish it. I like my stories to have a mystery that makes me want to keep turning the page to find out what happened. This one didn't. Each of the pages was interesting with some good scenarios. But we can't like all of the books, all of the time,
This book was absolutely amazing. I read it slowly in order to devour its every content as two lives perfectly intertwined with one another. Again Laura Morgan tells the tale of intricate and powerful beings that are her characters. I laughed, felt and cried along with the characters in her book. I can't wait for the next installment in this series.
What a read!!!! I Seriously didnt expect this story to grab me as much as it did but holy wow it packed a punch! Jammed packed with Gangsters.. lies.. deceit.. woman.. emotions.. and so so much more! Cassie has come to New York to follow her artistic dreams and when her marriage ends in a dramatic life changing way now she is slowly starting to re build herself... when she meets local Drug dealer and Gangster Leo. Unsure whether she can go down the road of all the things his lifestyle will bring she tries to avoid him... but who has ever known a strong alpha male to give up on something he wants though? Huge amounts of twists involved all the way through this story but it adds so much more into it all showing that not everything is plain sailing all the time. All i can say is i wish i had GG in my life! Straight onto book 2 in this set for me as soon as i can start!
A story of surviving the darkness no matter the cost. Truly Amazing 5 star read!
Wow - just wow. What a totally addictive, gripping, page turner of a book that kept me hooked until I'd finished. Not many books have that effect, but Laura Morgan nailed it in her writing style, character development & enough darkness to keep me utterly enthralled.
Sometimes authors struggle with the heroine & can make them hard work, but Cassie, for me, is one of my favourites. She is a survivor. A beautifully broken survivor who will forever rise up against all odds, to conqueror her own demons, her tragic past & her fight to live the life that is placed before her. The selfless decision she makes throws her head first into a world she is unsure she will survive, but her gentle heart & a spirit she won't allow to be broken shines so bright, even in her darkest of days. I found myself so emotionally entwined with her, my heart ached & breath caught as her life unfolded & the darkness threatened to swallow her whole.
Leo is hard with a reputation of death & destruction. Hot, powerful, cold, his success & position is a direct reflection of the man people want to stay clear off if they value their lives. Until Cassie. He cant help but want her. Her smile, her laugh, her hot as sin body. Her gentleness unmans him & he knows he can never live without her. Her loves unreservedly, passionately & dominantly. His need to love & protect her overwhelms him & for the very first time allows himself to love & be loved. It is this love almost brakes him, this love that he wishes he didn't need, but literally was powerless to walk away from.
I truly cant say to much more about the characters or the story without giving away too much - everyone deserves to feel this slice of darkness for themselves. You will meet other characters throughout that you love like Hanna, Jamie & Grayson, others you want to slap like Tina (well i did lol) & others that you know you should hate, but thanks to Laura, you actually in a twisted way, end up loving them too - like Viktor.
Can't recommend this book enough & I so can not wait for the 2nd in the series to come out, so I can slip back into to Cassie's life once more.
Forever Lost was the first book I have read by Laura Morton and I was in no way disappointed. I was offered a copy to Review on behalf of 2 Girls Who Love Books Blog. Right from the first chapter, I was curious about the torture and torment Cassie had lived through. Cassie’s pain and demons are very evident in the writing and it is clear that she will be working through those in the story. Since Cassie has some hang-ups now about sexual encounters and showing her body to lovers, I was surprised to find out that Cassie does indeed enjoy sex very much, as long as she remains in control of the situation. The story quickly finds Cassie introduced to the world of paid escorting through her best friend and roommate Hanna. Cassie ends up meeting the very dangerous drug-lord Leo who she feels a dangerous attraction to immediately but realizes a relationship with the deadly man would only end in heartache or something worse so she lets her head to the talking and manages to walk away. Cassie realizes she is drawn to and excited by the opportunity to explore the world of the dangerous man and secretly hoped Leo would fight for her but is disappointed by his efforts. The story takes some serious twists and turns from there keeping me glued to the pages. Every chapter had me shaking my head with actions that no doubt really go on in the world of the drug-cartel, something I have no personal experience with. The story surprised me at times and just when I thought I knew what was about to happen, another twist. Dealing with characters that have no morals makes for a story that can go anyway and Laura Morton has accomplished this. I was expecting a different ending but I am so pleased with the cliff-hanger (I love cliff-hangers by the way). Thankfully, I already have Book 2 Forever Loved, so I don’t have to wait to continue my journey with Cassie and Leo.
Reviewed on behalf of 2 Girls who love books blog What a book. I was captured from the first page on and could barely put the book down to eat or sleep, who needs that anyway? I haven’t read anything from the author before and got the book in exchange for an honest review. At first let me tell you that this book is not recommended for people who don’t do violence or graphic language. It is a great book, the plot plays out wonderfully, but it is not an easy read. You can’t read it in between your breaks at work or something like this. When you start it you have to finish it. That’s it, it won’t let you go, till you got behind all the secrets and revenge plans everybody had. I loved it! However I only give from five stars because (Spoiler!) in the beginning Cassie is described as a person who does not do casual sex, at all. Her experiences with her ex-husband have left her scarred and yet she immediately is on board when her best friend suggests a threesome? I never expected that, as well as the fact that she suddenly is interested in working as an escort. The second thing that didn’t really add up for me was the fact that Leo went to prostitutes, because even after a few days with Cassie he couldn’t wait anymore and had to blow off some steam? Really? That was a little bit too forced for me, mostly because I expected a huge blow-up when Cassie finds out that he lied to her and yet nothing happens. She just accepts the fact that he went to them and didn’t tell her. And last but not least – the cliffhanger. I wasn’t aware that there is going to be one, so I was a little surprised and really glad that I already had the second book. Despite those little bumps on the plot road I really enjoyed reading the book and can’t wait to see how it all plays out in the second one.
This is exactly how this book made me feel. I am not sure if i liked(saying it lightly) this book or i completely hated it. I am not even going to bother giving it a rating. This book started out nicely but somewhere along the road the author decided to play: lets who's can fuck with Misty mind today. I like the heroine until i didn't, i like the hero until i didn't then i when and like the book until i didn't and from there things when down hill pretty fast. Honestly as i am writing this review i am leaning towards hating this book completely. Ranting i mean why give me the impression that the hero is a Dominate male then he isn't anymore. Then you be like;lets introduce a new character and lets make him a depraved alpha male?!!!!!!
I really wish the author had made this dark and kept it that way. maybe i would have liked it????????????!!! OR MAYBE NOT. Peace out View all my reviews
I will start by saying take the authors warnings seriously. There are some dark elements to this book and quite a few trigger points. This is book 1 of this series.
I started reading this to pass a little time away but I was soon dragged into the world of gangsters and drug lords. I honestly didn't think it would drag me in the way it did as it is very different from the usual books that I would read. The writing style is the usual Laura Morgan that you expect in that it is extremely descriptive and flows beautifully throughout the entire book. The descriptive language makes the story easy to follow with a great expansive vocabulary used so isn't repetitive at all which just adds to the fantastic abilities of this author. The characters in this story are well thought out and vary dramatically from the dark and brooding to the timid and abused. Each character is well defined with fantastic distinctions between them. Their progression through the story line is fantastic and again easy to follow. There are no plot holes and you don't feel like you have missed something HOWEVER you will look for more pages at the end of the book and then your heart will break just a little because you know you have to wait for book 2. Although this book has dark elements it isn't too dark. This book is perfect for those that want to see if they want to delve into darker world's. I cannot praise Lauras writing enough and everything I have read by her so far has knocked my socks off!!! I rate this story 5 stars
This was the first book I have read by this author and I really enjoyed it. I fell straight into the story and loved the writing style and how fast paced it was. Right from the first chapter there were some pretty steamy scenes and these continued throughout the story.
Meet Cassie, a Brit living in New York with her escort roommate Hanna. Hanna introduces Cassie to this world and as resistant as she tries to be she is intrigued by the culture and soon falls into this world as well.
Meet Leo, handsome, rich business man who has spotted Cassie and has set his sights on owning her. The only problem is Leo is a notorious drug dealer so is in the wrong crowd and this leads to trouble once Cassie falls for Leo's charms.
The first half of the book was amazing and I couldn't wait to read on. I did enjoy the second half however I despised the characters that were involved with Cassie and wished there had been more of Leo and Cassie's story. I have since found out there is a sequel in the works so can't wait to get back into the world.
I will definitely be reading more from this author and give Forever Lost 4 stars.
The minute I read the synopsis... I wanted to jump right in..... which of course I did .....
And was taken on a journey with a women who got mixed up with the wrong people and lost herself along the way....
There was drama, action, violence, and possible love along the way....
For me, I wanted more action, more drama, more violence, basically i craved more details... I wanted dark and twisted but I got dark and light but it is was still a great story and gave a insight in to the world of drug lords......
Id recommend this book to anyone who is looking a light yet dark read ....
Absolutely bloody fabulous! Cassie and Leo's story has everything I look for in a book. This read is sexy, dangerous and thrilling... I loved every heart wrenching word from beginning to end I was gripped. Laura Morgan is an amazing talent with an exceptional writing skill. She never fails to suck me into her dark and twisted world! I cannot wait for book2. I need it now, but I know that this amazing lady is sitting in her dark an twisted cave, drafting it out as we speak! Hurry up woman... Please tell me Cassie will get her HEA. No woman deserves it more xxx
I received this book in return for a honest and complete review. This book is amazing, Cassie has so much strength, which surprised me. The characters are so fully developed, I found myself actually liking the villain, Victor! It is a real page turner, and keeps your attention with hot steamy sex, and complicated feeling towards each choice made. I loved this book and highly recommend it. I cannot wait to see the rest of the story in the next book....
