He Said. She Said.: Eight Powerful Phrases That Will Strengthen Your Marriage

Rate this book
We all have experienced the power of words. Hurtful words can do irreparable damage, while encouraging words can set our hearts soaring. In "He Said. She Said." authors Jay and Laura Laffoon show readers how to access this power to bring strength and vitality to a marriage.
Practical and fun, "He Said. She Said. "explores the different inherent needs of men and women and empowers wives and husbands to meet those needs using eight phrases that will revolutionize their communication. By explaining how to use phrases such as "I respect you," "I desire you," and "I believe in you," the Laffoons equip couples with the tools they need to nurture one another.
Drawing from fourteen years of marriage ministry, the Laffoons tell numerous stories about married couples, provide excerpts of interviews, and report survey results from over two thousand couples. The book also includes probing discussion questions for church classes and small groups.

This is a great little book on communication between husbands and wives. I probably would have gotten even more from it had I read it with my husband, but our buddy to-read list is just too long. Still, it gave me lots of food for thought and aha moments.

This is an humorous entertaining book on how communication in marriage is so important. You will find what he says or what she says is not really what is being said! It gives insight to how using simple phrases can greatly impact your communication and love for one another! It is definitely a must read for all married couples! I find myself keeping this book in the bathroom (even though I despise books kept in the bathroom) so it can be referred to often by both my spouse and me! I guarantee it will non painfully help strengthen your marriage!

Fall in love with marriage with the one you married

The right phrases are worth the read. The time to become familiar with them is worth it. I received new insights; felt affirmed, and appreciated the practical counsel. I recommend it.

Overall I enjoyed this. A lot of the points were very similar to the last relationship book I read, "Men are from Mars, Women are from Venus", except that this one was also heavily influenced by God. The Godly-ness of this novel sometimes enhanced the purpose of the methods, but also in some circumstances made it seem a little tiring, but of course that's probably more a personal preference than a true review of the book. I think there's a lot to be learned in this book, and I will definitely be taking tips into my future relationships. I don't think I'd revisit this book, nor do I think it was anything exceptionally phenomenal or one-of-a-kind.

This is perhaps best read as a "101" book on the subject of marriage. For those who make a hobby of reading marriage books, this one may not add much insight to your existing repertoire.

It would have been more helpful for me if the authors had not used the stereotypical behaviors ascribed to men and women for the basis of their advice. I find greater value in marriage-building books that challenge the reader to determine where they have strengths and weaknesses rather than using gender-specific steps to success.

Friends of mine! Jay and Laura Laffoon are "Celebrate Your Marriage" ministries. They hold conferences, destination get aways, "Ultimate Date Night", etc. They are a lot of fun, and their personalities come through in their writing.

This book is a quick read, with practical tips and hints on understanding your spouse's needs. There are discussion questions at the end of each chapter that are approachable for both to answer.

I really enjoyed going through this book with my wife and working on some of the communication issues that were going on in our marriage. It went through several different scenarios and presented me with some ideas that I had never thought of before. I’d recommend it to any couple who are looking to have a Godly marriage but are struggling with communication issues.

Very peritnent advices about marriage

I loved the insights on marriage from both man and woman perspective. I liked that I could relate to some of the answers and that the entire book was based on more than one opinion.
