See what life is like at Sidekick Elementary! What could possibly go wrong when the kids of Sidekick Elementary spend an afternoon in the Batcave? These all ages tales from the DC Universe, beautifully written and illustrated by Art Baltazar and Franco, will entertain new readers and seasoned fans of comics.
Cute and fun to read. There are some continuity references, and some callbacks to jokes in earlier Tiny Titans. This might be a barrier to the kids that it's really made for, but they might also be too busy enjoying the hijinks. I was.
This really won an Eisner? For what, proving that DC writers smoke more crack per capita than any other demographic imaginable? Still, kind of hilarious and worth reading if only for the following exchange:
"Hey, what's continuity?" asks Kid Flash.
"Continuity? It's the consistency of contiguous events, stories, characters, plots, and places set in the DC Universe observed by the comic reader," replies Robin (who we presume is Dick Grayson even though both Cassandra and Donna are Wondergirls in this piece).
"Are we in continuity?" the confused speedster asks again.
I loved it but then I am a sucker for over cute comics :P The artwork is very basic but there is just something about it I love and makes me go AWWWWWWWEEEEEEEE!!
Cause it's a graphic novel between the issues of the comic there is pin-ups and other things suchs as jokes. My god those jokes are so lame but had me giggling hard :P
I love how simple the comics are. I love it's something I don't need to keep 'in touch with'...I can read it as I please.
Besides all these points..As I was reading it was giving me ideas for my own illustrations SO you see it works well for me x)
My daughter got me to read this and it was one of the best comics for kids that I've seen in a long while. Reads like the Teen Titans cartoon, if Charles Shultz had been a creative consultant.
Lots of short episodes, funny gags, great cartoony art and reoccurring story threads make this an ideal read for a kid just getting into reading and/or comic books. Something parents and kids could read together.
'Ka-bunny!' is my new favorite comic book sound effect.
The series is good for the entirety of its run, but this is the volume where it really hits its stride. The art is cute. The stories are sillier than the two earlier volumes. There's a good amount of parental bonus, but it isn't anything that takes too much away from the main story.
Tiny Titans: Sidekickin' It picks up where the previous trade paperback left off, collecting the next six issues (13–18) of the on-going 2008 series.
Like the previous trade paperbacks, Tiny Titans: Sidekickin' It is composed of several individual mini-stories ranging from two to six pages in length with no overall cohesive storyline. The cast of characters is rather large and it is expanded a tad in this trade paperback, but not too much. Like the previous trade paperback, a child could do an activity for fun and a pin-up poster that they could hang somewhere at the end of each chapter.
The faculty of Sidekick City Elementary was expanded to have Lobo as the head coach. Darksied does double duty as the custodian engineer and the Monitor serves as detention supervisor, with Anti-Monitor tries to free the kids in detentions. When I was in school, I sometimes thought that teachers were evil – in Sidekick City Elementary – they are.
There was an interdiction of a science club that was dubbed the Brainiac Club that includes members that has ever called themselves Brainiac from the original to Brainiac 5 from the thirty-first century. There was a mention of the Bird Scouts, but no actual scenes of it. The Pet Club has three appearances twice at the Wayne Manor and once in Paradise Island. As for what happened in Pet Club, well the first rule of Pet Club is that we do not discuss Pet Club.
Art Baltazar and Franco Aureliani penned the entire trade paperback and for the most part, it was written rather well. It is quite funny, giving many Easter Eggs and allusion to comic events that have happened in the main continuity, which is rather clever for the older people who may be reading this series.
Art Baltazar does double duty as he penciled the entire trade paperback as well and because he was the only penciler, the artistic flow of the trade paperback flowed exceptionally well. The penciling was done exceptionally well. It has a cartoonish quality, which is rather apropos to this series.
All in all, Tiny Titans: Sidekickin' It is a rather wonderful continuation for the series and I can't wait to read the next trade paperback.
Like the other Tiny Titans books these are just a collection of cute and fun stories for everyone to enjoy. Also they explain continuity in here and who knew a kids comic would have the best explanation of it.
Lots of innocent fun, some jokes around Robin's diferent costumes. The in-jokes about the comics universe are more accessible this time, and you don't need to know about the events because the jokes are funny without the references. Great for kids.
More cuteness! I have to say that all of the books are very similar. For this volume you also had to have a good background knowledge of the DC Universe, and there were even a few things I didn't get and I'm usually pretty good.
This is the second Tiny Titans I got for the library! I think that the kids are really going to like these pint sized super heroes. These are really well done graphic novels for younger kids with short stories and great illustrations!
These DC Comics for kids things are so freakin' cute. But, I sorta wish that they'd somehow make Batwoman one of the 'adults' in the series. Maybe a cool aunt of little Barbara or somethin'.... :D So frickin' cute!
Easy light reading and always enjoyable!! If you haven't read Tiny Titans - DO! Child versions of all your favorite DC superheroes acting like little kids.
My favorite scenes continue be those at Wayne Manor (Alfred!) or anything involving Raven. Highlights of this volume: bunnies, Robin's birthday presents, and Darkseid the Janitor. Hee.
3 1/2 stars. Adorable art, appropriate for young audiences. I was on a Young Justice kick after watching the stellar short lived television show, so I'm going through comic books now. :)
Fun as always. I always wonder if young kids make sense of everything in Tiny Titans without knowing characters well like an adult does. I found the pet and race plots very kid friendly.
Another fun book in this series. The second book for this week in this series, I will be reading 1 book of this series each day this week. It is Teen Titans week for me! \o/
This was the first book where I noticed jokes from the previous two books so I would suggest you read those two first to fully enjoy the book. If you don't then you can still enjoy this fun and cute book.
