Wow, wow, wow. Talk about being lured into a storyline. All it took was the first few pages and I was hooked. Do we have a suicide or a murder? Just what deadly game is being played here?
We have a widowed young mother who happens to be a detective. Her very loving husband is found dead, leaving a suicide note behind. She just can’t wrap her trained, investigative mind nor her personal, loving wifely convictions around his death…. she just can’t convince herself it was suicide. Now, months later, she receives a cryptic note from an inmate wanting to talk. This brings about more doubt. She now is on a mission, a mission to find out what happened, what is the truth. Why is Kim's husband dead?
All of this takes place in the first few pages…. and that just barely touches upon the intrigue, the mystery, the events beginning to take place. Yes, the title of this book is apt…. deadly games it is. But never doubt the love of a wife and mother who knows how to search out the truth. After all, her training has served her well.
Her new partner has his own story. He has dodged death at least two times…. why, how? Could it be someone was looking out for him? As the Good Book says…. all things work together for good for those who love the Lord. I love a good redemption storyline. This one does not disappoint. We have nightmares, murder, intrigue, blackmail, and last but not least, we have redemption and we have love. Perfect…. simply perfect. ❣️
A very exciting Christian romantic suspense. This is absolutely my favorite genre as I get all the action, mystery, suspense and romance of a great story along without having to censor any of the pages. In this book Kim a police officer has lost her husband to a supposed suicide. Although she is a Christian she can't understand why her husband would do this to her and their 5 year old son. He knew that she had already lost her father to suicide, why would he hurt her this way. Kim decides that she needs a new start in life and moves to Riverglen. When she overhears her new partner say he doesn't want to work with her, she makes up her mind she will do her job and prove she is good at it no matter what he thinks. All of a sudden horrendous things start happening in Kim's life. The suspense doesn't stop as these two have to find out what is happening and why. A great book and I will be reading more of this author's books. I received a free download of this book from the publisher. This review is totally my own honest opinion.
Rose has a way of bringing her characters to life. I loved the spiritual journey Kim and Josh each walked through during the trials they faced in the book. This one kept me guessing until the end.
Police officer Kimberly lost her husband to suicide but her nagging doubts have kept her from moving on with her life. Someone is watching her. Her new partner is arrogant and doesn’t want to partner with a woman. Can they work together? Can she trust him? Can she find the truth before it’s too late?
Josh lost his partner, a woman who made him second guess his life as a player. Was it his fault that she died? Now he’s gun shy about working with another woman but there’s something that draws him to Kim and her son. Now someone is after her, can he keep his distance and keep her safe? Can he trust the God that she holds onto and he pushed away?
Police detective Kim Walker is still questioning her husband's suicide and dealing with a new partner Josh who was against the assignment. When she receives evidence that proves that her husband didn't kill himself, she decides to investigate on her own without her partner. When her life is put into danger, Josh is there for her and her son. I received a free copy of this book from the author. This is my honest and voluntarily given review. This is a suspenseful Christian romance. The story is told from both Kim and Josh's point of view. During the story, their faith is threatened and they learn to rely more on God. I especially like seeing the changes in Josh and the opening up of Kim. I enjoyed reading this book.
I was fortunate enough to read the ARC of Deadly Games, however, instead of writing a review, I downloaded the book from Kindle Unlimited to read it all over again. It’s THAT awesome of a story! Kim and her son Davy storm into your heart from the very beginning. I loved Kim’s faith, and her no holds barred approached to witnessing, or rather, calling Josh out on his lack of faith! Josh and Kim are perfect as partners as they figure out who is trying to harm Kim, and how it is linked to her deceased husband. Deadly Games has amazing characters that make you hope this is the start of a series, and a storyline that will keep you on the edge of your seat ;o) even when it’s your second time through the book!
Excellent job on this new gripping crime thriller from Rose Verde. This storyline and the characters will grab you in the early pages and keep you turning the pages through the "bitter" end! This story of Kimberly, detective, widow and mother, and Josh, her new partner, has so many twists and turns that you will find it extremely hard to put down.
I read this book before it was rewritten in its current story- line and this current story would get more than 5 stars of possible. An excellent rewrite Ms. Verde.current
I did receive an ARC copy of this book. This is my voluntary, honest and completely personal review. VICKI FROM WYOMING
Detective Kim Walker, a very devout Christian has been assigned as a partner to another detective, whose last female partner was shot He doesn't not want another female partner, and he doesn't believe. As their crime fighting relationship evolves he begins to admire her and her young son. She soon has more reasons to believe her husband didn't commit suicide years ago. As a new piece of information surfaces, she is determined to exonerate her husband while trying to keep her son safe. Her partner finds himself more involved with her and her son as their faith is tested time after time.
This book is a clifhanger. Kim keeps having more & more bad things happen to her. I couldn't figure out who the bad guy was & had trouble putting the book down so I could get everyday life things done. Good thing the book was not any longer than it was. Really good job. I received a free copy from the author. This is my voluntary review.
Who doesn’t want Kim Walker investigating the suicide verdict of her husband’s death? Was it a suicide? Why doesn’t her new partner, Josh, was to partner with her? Are the threats dangerous to her son? Rose Verde keeps the action going and the questions coming. I was compelled to keep reading to answer all these questions.
This romantic suspense book had me on the edge of my chair. I could not put the book down as I tried to figure out what was happening, why it was happening, and what would happen nest. I really enjoyed the excitement, the story, and especially the characters of KImberly and Josh. I received an advance copy of this book and I willingly chose to write an honest review.
Kim is does not think her husband committed suicide but can she prove it? Josh's first female partner died and he feels guilty. These two have a rocky start to their partnership. I loved the suspense and how sassy both of these characters are with each other. There is romance but the suspense and mystery kept me reading. I did not feel like it ended on a cliffhanger but would love a book 2.
Deadly Games is a gripping Christian romantic suspense that keeps you reading until you find out what happened, both regarding Kim's husband's suicide in the past and the current murders Kim and her partner Josh are investigating. I found the interactions between them very believable - especially when Josh had been vocal about not wanting a female partner after his last partner was killed and was now regretting his outburst, as needless to say it wasn't a great start to a working relationship (let alone any other sort of relationship). Both of them had to work to deal with the emotions from the past - grief, guilt, fear. It wasn't all about the suspense either, there was a strong Christian element showing the importance of faith and prayer and Josh's journey to a relationship with God was very believable without being preachy. Another great book by Rose Verde and I look forward to more. I received an ARC and this is my voluntary and honest review.
Deadly Games is a very intriguing and suspenseful novel. Detective Kimberly Walker and her young son, Davey, are still trying to adjust to a new way of life after the death of Seth, her husband and son's father, which was ruled a suicide. However, several months later, Kim receives a request from an inmate requesting a visit. She goes alone and learns that her attorney husband was indeed murdered and the scene was staged to look like a suicide. But why? And who wanted Seth dead? As Kim begins to investigate, she reluctantly allows her partner in on the matter. Things quickly turn deadly, and Kim and her son are at great risk. Her partner, Josh, becomes determined to protect them both at any cost, but will he be able to withstand the evil forces against them as the truth begins to unfold? Josh's first female partner died in the line of duty, and he is going to do everything he can to see that history does not repeat itself. He has come to care very much for Davey as well as his mother, but can he change enough to have a chance at a future with them?
Ms. Verde has created an excellent novel, and I hope to meet these remarkable characters again. I received and advance copy of this kindle book; the review is entirely my own.
I was absolutely spellbound as I raced through Deadly Games, a very exciting, Christian, romantic suspense book. I could not put it down. The story stayed with me long after I had finished the book! As Kim and Josh raced to identify the killer(s) and keep Kim's son safe, I felt I was in the story with them. Rose Verde is a very talented author. This story just blew me away!
