"Though I happen to be the spiritual leader of a church that is currently present in more than 200 countries, and though I am also the owner of the second largest television broadcasting company in Brazil, reaching 200 million viewers worldwide, as well as the owner of newspapers, radio broadcasting companies, and many other projects and activities, and though I have a wonderful, exemplary wife and children who fill me with satisfaction, none of that comes even close to my greatest possession. Nothing is worth more than my close relationship with God. (Edir Macedo, Nothing to Lose, Page 238)

This is the part one of the three part series of the author, Edir Macedo's, autobiography. He is the richest minister in the world according to Forbes. He starts off his biography of being apprehended after a church service he performed and taken to jail for crimes of "charlatanism, being a faith-healer, and fraud" (p. 35) in the year 1992. He spent 11 days in jail and many of his supporters demanded that he be released and even planned breaking him out of jail. His wife brought him a Bible and he mediated on it day and night. He was in a jail that housed white collar criminals. He relates how the charges against him were suspect as the 30 year old judge who ordered his arrest was being influenced by a religious leader of some kind that was present during this questioning. He was released 11 days later. Apparently, a movie has been made about this episode in this bishop's life.

He then relates how he started going to a church called New Life after his sister was influenced by a Canadian healing evangelist over the radio (he doesn't mention this pastor by name, but I think it was Benny Hinn. I could be wrong). He then attended this church for years and never gets an opportunity to minister. No one believed in him. He then abruptly leaves the church and then starts his own church, which became known as the Universal Church. He weaves messages from the Bible throughout this book that he has learned. It reads like an autobiography with gospel messages interwoven.

This book will change your life!
I can identify with most of the struggles in this book and it provides lessons and practical advice on how you can overcome them.
I can't wait for the second book!

" 'Nothing to Lose’ is not a simple retrospective. I cannot live in the past. I look forward. Therefore, this work is projected for the future, aiming to collect and disseminate personal experiences underpinning the firm belief of those who follow the Christian faith, and to reach those who feel lost."

I'm not a devoted person to God but this book itself allow the reader top data -mine some personal aspect of Bishop Macedo during his life episodes. Words like sacrfice, forgiveness , evil struggling and the altruist purpose of saving human souls from the hell dominium are extremely necessary for the reader to understand and finally will give an important insight from his experiences.

This book is really great! Many people like to judge others based on what the media says or on what they hear others saying. But the story of Edir is a real example for all of us that want to make a difference in this world but have a lot of difficulties. I totally recommend all to read it, even if you are not a christian. Its not a religious book.
