A sardonic rom-com manga, Kiss Me at the Stroke of Midnight is perfect for fans of shojo like My Little Monster and Kare Kano.Hinana prizes her reputation as a serious high school student, too focused on getting into college to pay attention to boys. But she’s a secret fairytale romance freak, sneaking away from her studies to see A Roman Holiday and tucking pop idol magazines into her textbooks. When her celebrity crush comes to her school to film a TV episode, she has to pretend to be totally uninterested even as she desperately tries to get close to him. However, she’s not the only one who’s not what she appears… her dreamboat isn’t just a pretty face either!

This series is fluffy fluff fluffness and its killing my shriveled up black hole of a heart.
Readers are finally given Hinana's backstory in this volume and I have to say, I give Mikimoto some serious props for not making her story tragedy porn. Make no mistake, Hinana's past is indeed tragic, but the tone of the series has been pretty light to compliment the fluffy romance and I'm thrilled Mikimoto didn't go completely trauma-tragedy porn on Hinana. Hmm, it's almost like someone can have sad backstory without it being weighed down with edge, trauma, misery, and woe. Who would have thought that was possible? *glares at most YA novels published within the last five years*
But seriously, this serious is just so damn cute and fluffy, when Ayase looks for Hinana in the fashion show and makes a heart with his hand I squeed waaaay harder than I should have. Also, just putting it out there, I do not have a problem with Hinana and Ayase thinking about becoming more intimate. Yes, there is an eight year age gap and Hinana is in high school, but since they were interrupted anyway and both are consenting individuals who are respectful of each other's boundaries, I am completely okay with them furthering their relationship.
Small rant aside, I really am enjoying this series more than I thought I would and am so glad that I pre-ordered volume 10. Can't wait to see what happens next!
In this volume, we finally learned about Hinana's past, Also, in this chapter, and I really did like this one was You know usually, they introduce celebrities as tsuns or some sort of cool kid/bad boy persona and I am really glad that the way Mikimoto-sensei wrote Kaede was this kind, charming guy who truly cares for Hinana. I honestly thought he would just be some sort of perv creep at first who has a butt fetish but I'm really glad to see the things he does to Hinana that shows how much he cares for her. I think the next volume is gonna be a good one because we HOPEFULLY get to see him and his issue with Funny Bone get resolved, and I am HERE for it. :)
I picked up the first of the series on kindle unlimited to check it out and ended up reading the entire series ending up staying late to finish. I just loved the idea for this one the celebrity and the high school girl just works. I love that they both grew so much over the course of the series. This is a quick fast paced sweet whirlwind romance. I'm going to need these for my collection. I was super sad to see the series end but I'm so glad that I got a happy ever after. It's a beautiful story with equally beautiful artwork.
Prevedo scintille!
We finally hear about Hinana’s past... and we finally understand why she tries so hard in life.... She wants to make sure she doesn’t get abandoned again... She even gave up the piano because of her family’s financial problems.... also,to ensure Suzu gets the future she deserves. I hope Hinana realizes that while it’s nice to make others happy, she deserves happiness too.
Kaede’s discussion with Hinana’s mother is so mature. It really made me like him even more.
4.5 stars I love Ayase showing up for Hinana and getting into contact with her mother. His birthday and the day at the onsen were also super cute. I’m glad A-chan told Ayase about Hinana’s past, because I don’t believe she would’ve opened up to him any tim soon. However, I also don’t really like it that he does so without asking her, because it is her story and even though his intentions are good and out of worry, it still does not 100% sit right with me. I’m also glad Hinana and Ayase both decided to confront their fears.
Well....things heated up in this volume. About time really. This was a fun volume. I look forward to the upcoming story line. Good volume in a good series. For further detail about my feelings on the series read my reviews for the first few volumes and (when I get to it) the last volume.
Bello!
Although the story does technically move at a rather slow pace (I mean, I guess it's not a race though) Kiss Me at the Stroke of Midnight really is a cute, refreshing and somewhere innocent take on the usually shoujo genre, the two protagonist move with their relationship at a slow pace while also not being entirely unaware of what attraction really implies...which usually isn't a given!
