The stage is set for the school play and Vlad wants to be the star, but if his family find out he’s been going to human school, there’ll be serious trouble… To keep it secret, Vlad needs to put on the best performance of his life!

These four books are really like one large book that is broken up into four smaller parts. Definitely read them together and in order.
The conclusion of this series of books was absolutely as wonderful as the first three. Vlad is finally getting to perform in the school play as Hansel and Gretel with his best friend, but things are still bad at home with his mother and not learning his vampire skills well enough. Everyone encourages Vlad to be brave and tell his parents about going to human school, which was a fabulous kid dilemma for him to face, and he has to face his worst school fear as well - everyone finding out he is a vampire.
I think the best part about this book was how it worked through Vlad's expectations of the worst case scenarios - and how none of the things he was so concerned about ended up being as bad as he was worried they would be. I think that's such an important message, especially when you are small and anxious. Also I loved how all of Vlad's friends came through for him in different ways, Mulch, Minxie, and Flit were all super loving and supportive throughout the book.
A very fun series. Really enjoyed it and would for sure recommend.
Saying goodbye to Vlad the Vampire! The last in the series, Spook-tacular Surprise by Anna Wilson was the perfect conclusion to the adventures of the world’s worst vampire.
In it Vlad’s worlds finally collide. His school friends find out he’s a vampire and his parents find out he’s been going to school with humans. Vlad is deathly afraid he’ll loose both his family and friends, but his bestie, Minxie sticks by his side and helps smooth things over.
One thing I haven’t mentioned through these reviews is that Minxie is Black and it’s hard not to see parallels between the Black experience and Vlad’s as a vampire. Granted these books take place in the England which has a different background than the US, but still a background with a lot of history.
With this final book, what we finally get to see, after a build up through the series, is Vlad acting in his school play of Hansel and Gretel. Even hyped as much as it was, it still lived up to our expectations.
We’ve both really enjoyed our time with the Vlad and are a little disappointed that it’s over.
