i really enjoyed this, might have given it the extra star if anybody besides rusty wallace had done the intro.
two things i wish mcgee would have added, the daytona 500 dale sr. lost to derrick cope. cope was as unknown as trevor bayne was a couple years ago(re: darrell waltrip's inane "who is this kid?" comment) and even cope's local telvision station in washington didn't carry the race. the question, as mcgee says later, wasn't if dale would lose but HOW. cope was the story that day as much as dale. and because every comment must be about dale, jr's first cup race would surely be an ultimate moment even though he was just following in kyle petty's footsteps.
and two more to make the book nascar's 102 moments - the victory junction gang camp set up by the petty's and nascar in adam's honor, safer barriers and roof flaps are dale sr's legacy, the camp is adam's. i doubt any lives have been saved in adam's honor, but helping those kids and their families stands almost as tall. speed channel. don't expect it mentioned in a book by espn, but speed channel gave nascar an incredible outlet for branding itsself and creating more knowledgable fans. seeing dave despain everyday/week interviewing drivers and talking about the races, shows featuring booty barker and other crew chiefs, alan bestwick, michael, benson, and schrader every monday talking about the races from a driver's perspective. speed channel was an incredible gift to race fans. (i miss formula one now that it on channel 600andsomething)
