It’s an interesting archaeological read, some game theory has evolved (through computer AI and simulated games) but there are sound, principled strategies outlined and credibly explained.

As a bit of a beginner at Backgammon I found this book very good. Some of the recommended moves are dated but the basic principles outlined seems sound. I will recommend it to those that would like to improve their game. I would, however, suggest that you get online and get an up to date list of roll outs for opening rolls and replies.

The Backgammon Book by Oswald Jacoby and John Crawford (Bantam Books 1980)(795.1). A "how-to" book on playing the game with plenty of strategy for the more advanced player. This was my first book on backgammon strategy. My rating: 7/10, finished 1978.
