What is your greatest fear? Could you face it every day and remain sane? For years I've been kept like an animal in a cage. A pet to please, a slave to serve. They stole my dignity, revoked my right as a mother and wife. Before being taken, I was radiant, joyous even. My elders often spoke with great reverence about who I was to become. A spiritual example to my community, yet I find it hard to see the purpose when looking in the mirror and seeing the scars of a woman I no longer recognize. Though many try and silence our pain, I open my palms to show you the evidence of suppression.
My name is True Mouringdove of the Shoshone-Bannock Tribe. This story is not a reenactment of victory and triumph. But a willingness to continue, under the most wicked of circumstances. I am here, and I am a survivor. But that doesn't mean my captors will have the same blessing.

The blurb caught my attention and I chose to read this book based on it. I also liked the cover though I didn’t decide to read the story because of that. I thought the story was entertaining - a bit hard to read at times. This is a new author to me and I thought the author has promise.
I requested a copy of this book so I could provide an honest review.
I was not sure about this as this is the first book I have read in this series! This was a hard read to get through but it was so engaging and engrossing, I could not put it down! This is a new author for me but one I will be keeping up with in the future!

I found this storyline interesting and flowed easily throughout the pages. The characters are intense. The theme was hard to read at times but I had to finish reading it.

Dark and intense read with great characters and an amazing story that draws you in from beginning to end. The story is painful and emotional with loads of twists and turns. I loved it.
A very intense, hard to read book. I felt what True was going through. To have her whole life ripped from her. Losing her husband, her kids, her self. What a survivor! Haunting. I voluntarily reviewed a complimentary copy of this book from Hidden Gems.
I was really looking forward to reading this book based on the blurb. While I was somewhat disappointed, it kept me interested. I thought something was missing and at times it was hard to read. I liked the fact that we knew when we were in the past and present. I thought the author did a great job of that. Some details were left out especially regarding her kids. Towards the end it just glossed over her kids and (ex) husband. I can’t give more details than that without including spoilers. I do plan to read this author again.
I voluntarily read and reviewed an advance copy of this book.
