Everyone's saying "If you give this to a kid, they'll be so engrossed, they won't give it back!" Every day, Heaven's Design Team receives unreasonable requests from their client, God, to design all sorts of animals. Full of interesting and educational comedy, like, "Is there a creature that creates gems?" "How does a sea otter sleep in the ocean?" "Why do male lions have manes?" Also includes the popular animal picture book!
This series continues to be hilarious. The addition of a new "client" helped the humor along. Each chapter is almost like a riddle: given this vague assortment of characteristics and abilities, what animal are they thinking of? I wonder if a manga like this could be used for middle schoolers who are getting into biology.
4.5 stars. Gods design animals for Earth! Each chapter focuses on 1-3 animals and the thoughtful creative process on the how and why an animal is the way they are. At the end of each chapter are bits of information about the animals mentioned.
It's really interesting how there's a God who sends an angel as an agent to Roman Gods in order to design creations for Him. I like how there's reason in the creation, making it a fun way of explaining the who, what, why, and how. The cast of characters are all likeable and have their quirks. They share the spotlight with their animal creations. The plot is linear so readers won't have to worry too much about having to read from the first book. Some new characters do get introduced but each volume includes a quick introduction for each person.
Give to middle schoolers and up who enjoy manga and like to learn along the way!
More of the same as the first 2 volumes, but there's also (dare I say it?) the beginnings of an actual plot. For reasons yet unknown, Hell is beginning to court the design team too. And to the designers' delight, Hell has a clear idea of what they want instead of just vague guidelines. The design team is under the impression that they're designing creatures for a kind of... theme park, basically, one which doesn't follow the normal rules of physics as such. This allows for otherwise impractical designs such as Cerberus and a three-headed dragon!
There's still plenty of the episodic humor and cuteness that the series has been delivering up til now, as well as the cool factoids about the real animals featured in these design requests, but it seems like there's at least a little bit of an actual direction now. This is good, and I am looking forward to seeing how it continues.
While volume two had renewed my interest, this one sapped it dry. I don’t think I’ll be continuing with this series. It’s really for very enthusiastic animal facts-lovers only. This is no slight on the series, but it’s not keeping my personal interest.
It’s very touching that the whole design office values Ueda. So cute.
This is such a fun read! In this manga, our characters design animals, with God as the client. It's so funny to see this group of oddballs creating various animals, some familiar and some not so much.
I love that I learn interesting facts about animals. A highlight for me in this volume is getting to learn about where (possibly) the legend of the giant cyclops originated.
Another interesting, educational, and humorous volume. I always try to guess what animal they will come up with in the beginning, and I swear I always learn something about an animal every chapter. The world and nature is a strange, strange place.
In which the sea otter is invented, and the team dies of cuteness overload! Plus, a new collaboration with hell allows the team to design animals that couldn't live on Earth!
