John Einarson's excellent book about Neil Young's Canadian Years is a real treasure for Neil fans. I live in Winnipeg only a few blocks from 1123 Grosvenor where Neil lived with his Mom and went to Kelvin High School (also close to where I live). Winnipeg is very proud of the time Neil spent here and everyone has their stories about him (including me).
This book was a sheer joy to read about Neil's largely Winnipeg history and his subsequent move to Toronto and then to LA.
I am a long time fan of Neil's and have seen him many times on his tours through Winnipeg, this book brings it all home to where it all began.
Well researched and full of facts, this book provides countless insights into Neil’s life in Canada during his young life. John’s descriptions of Winnipeg in particular, act as a period piece for post-war Canada. It doesn’t try to draw elaborate threads through Neil’s life, which while dry at times, allows the reader to think.
