Look out for The Bump, which will be published on 6th October. I wrote it when my daughter was expecting my first grandchild - now four years old and starting school! I was so aware, when I was writing it, of what a journey pregnancy is, and how women throw their all into it to help their babies grow. It seemed to me that the boundless love and hope and courage of the mum-to-be wasn't very often celebrated. So that's what I set out to do. But I've got to say, words aside, Nicholas Allan's illustrations make this book. They're so soft and sweet and funny. He hits just the right note.

Atchoo is a book about a young girl who has not yet learnt social graces, her animal farm friend-the cow teaches her how to be polite.

We do need to teach children how to be aware of other people, by being courteous and generally having good manners. Suzy Sue learns that; when she sneezes she must cover her mouth, not to slurp her food whilst eating, to not fight and that the golden rule being “always do what you’d like others to do to you.”

Although cow tells Suzy Sue, about having good manners he offends others in the meantime and his farm friends protest. When the cow was being mean to Suzy Sue and his farm friends, he ended by having no friends and he had to make it up to them. It teaches children that although people might do wrong, they may not know what to do just as Suzy Sue. This teaches children that you can tell people how to do things right and still be polite in doing so.

This is a good book for teaching children good manners, by doing this children are building good social skills and social etiquette. They learn to respect for others too. This book explored the importance of good hygiene, as the cow continues to give Suzy sue the rules to good manners.

The contrary idea of animals teaching a girl how to be sociable is quite humourous and adds irony, the rhyme in the story is also engaging. I did enjoy reading this book.

Some farm animals help out a little girl by trying to teach her manners after she sneezed without covering her mouth only of being accused of bullying in the process.

Illustrations are cartoony and fun.

Лошо е, когато асоцираш лошите обноски с поведението на приятели, в случая животни от обкръжението. Затова трябва да се държим така, както искат да се държат с нас, както ни учи и книгата със златното си правило за добри обноски.

Scholastic: Parents and Child Review

Concept Book

For young audiences it is important to understand the concepts of manners and this humorous book explains manners in a fun way. This book takes the reader to a farm setting to teach them manners that involve, sneezing, being clean, and sharing. The illustrations help explain manners in a fun way by making all of the farm animals have human characteristics in their behavior. I would use this book at the beginning of the school year to set expectations for my students. Ultimately the theme for this book is to be kind to others and I think that this book is a humorous way of introducing this concept to students.

This is a great book for introducing manners. It also reminds kids (and adults) that they don't have to be rude to convince others to use good manners. The Golden Rule is highlighted and touted as the most important rule of all. This is a funny rhyming book with great illustrations that will make learning about manners fun. Readers will realize that even if they were born in a zoo, they don't have to act like it!

Humorous story about manners both in text and illustrations. Fun readaloud--will bring to outreach next go 'round. Covers the basics like take a bath and share...also brings to light the golden rule as Suzy Sue is injured by all the criticism of her farm animals friends following her sneeze!

Cute book about manners and how correcting bad manners needs to be done in a nice way, not being rude. I didn't appreciate the word 'd*rn' being used in a children's book, but I substituted 'Oh my' and the rhyming still worked.

Cute book. It discusses some basic manners for kids, but also hints to adults that kids learn by example. We'll see if it works. Ha!Ha!

Hauska "tietokirja" tenaville. Oikeasti siis kuvakirja, jossa vähän niinkuin jotain opetuksen tynkää seassa.
