Enoch should have let Caleb join Lucifer. Instead, he’d wrestled Caleb to the ground and held him there until the rebellion was over. He’d saved his friend from the pit, but he couldn’t save him from himself. Caleb still denounced everything Enoch held dear, and he was cast to Earth in punishment. Without the Light, Caleb wastes away, until he discovers a new life force—human blood. Worse yet, each mortal he drains is infected with his immortality, creating a race of vampires. Enoch is responsible for Caleb’s mess, so Enoch’s sent to Earth to clean it up. He walks the night, hunting and destroying vampires, trying to protect mortals. And he’ll be stuck among mortals until Caleb repents and returns Home….which doesn’t seem likely. But when Caleb’s hordes come to town as Enoch is trying to hunt down a vicious serial killer, Enoch finds himself trapped in an eternal battle with his former friend as he tries to protect the people of Three Rivers from threats both human and not.

USA Today best-selling author for The Body in the Attic, as Judi Lynn. I first published writing urban fantasy as Judith Post, but when I switched to writing romances and mysteries, I used the pen name Judi Lynn. I live in Indiana, and the Midwest is often the setting for my books. I love it here! When we got married, my husband and I bought a 1920 small bungalow, and we've never moved. It needed lots of work. We're still working on it. That's where I got the idea for a fixer-upper mystery series. I love to cook, so food sneaks into most of my stories. I include two or three recipes at the end of my Jazzi mysteries.

I received this book from the group Making Connections on Goodreads. Judith was kind enough to offer it up to the group as a free read for review. And who in there right mind can resist that? So for my second post a round of applause for this author! The book is well written and flows along smoothly, no whiplash will be had from this read whipping around to different directions at every chapter. It is, as you can probably deduce, about angels and my fave, vampires.

Enoch and Caleb are some of God's angels. Caleb decides he wants to join in rebellion with Lucifer. Enoch, however has a completely different plan. He doesn't want to see Caleb punished and cast out from heaven, so he wrestles and pins him down until the battle is over. Lucifer and his followers are cast into the pit of hell. Caleb, none the less is not a happy camper and is livid with Enoch. He confronts his maker and denounces him, and having his "Light" taken from him, he is hurled to earth as punishment. Without his light he starts to waste away until he discovers an alternative. By drinking human blood he regains his life force. However is has affects on the humans and thus the vampire is born. The One sends Enoch to clean up the mess he inadvertently had a hand in, by keeping Caleb from joining his cohorts. Enoch is unable to return home until Caleb repents and that doesn't seem to be in the cards.

Centuries later, Enoch is hunting a rogue down that caused the death of a friend. He comes in contact with an upright vampire, Voronika and a detective, Danny. While helping Voronika and Danny he also incurs the wrath of Voronika's maker Vlad. Who just happens to be a favorite of Caleb's. Vlad and his army come to town to capture Voronika. Suddenly Enoch has to protect not only Voronika and Danny, but the enite population of the city. There of course is more going on then I'm letting on, so you will just have to go and get your own copy and find out what it is.

I got this book for free, in exchange of an honest review, from Making Connections. Get your copy here.

What I liked about it:

the Vampire mythology and Judith’s take on it was interesting.

the heroine didn’t put all her trust in Enoch, as soon as she met him- the attraction and relationship took a healthy amount of time to develop.

that Enoch was indecisive about killing Vlad and pushing his friend off the edge-we all behave that way when it comes to people we care about.

What I didn’t like:

the mystery took a little longer to unravel than I’d have liked it to.

even though, we were told what happened between Caleb & Enoch, I still felt there was something missing.

This story doesn’t let the paranormal elements overshadow the murder(s) mystery it is built around. If you like such books, this one won’t disappoint you.
Also, dude an angel with uber Vamp killing powers!

Love, Love, Love it!!! This book is a paranormal cross between Criminal Minds and Law and Order without the court scenes.

Enoch stopped his fellow angel Caleb when he wanted to follow Lucifer. They are both on Earth as a punishment. Caleb is using his time on earth to create vampires for his entertainment and Enoch is here to control the vampires that turn rogue, ones who feed from humans. While on a hunt for a rogue Enoch befriends a cop who is trying to catch a serial killer. This will not only bring him further into the mortal world but will ultimately lead to a battle between him and Caleb.

The author does an excellent job developing each character as the story unfolds. She drew me in with the many twists and turns to this story. I did not want to put it down! I will be waiting for her next installment!!

I enjoyed this book. Good against bad. What we trade off to keep the peace. You feel their struggle to do the right thing. And it is nice to see that nice people do make a difference. Another way to look at this book, is to see how those who have bad things happen to them still stick with their character. Who they are, and how they live their life, even if they know that many times they will only win a battle or two and not the war. They still try.

I’m a sucker for urban fantasy novels. When I heard Fallen Angels dealt with angels, fallen angels, vampires, and serial killers, I couldn’t NOT read it. And I’m so glad I did.

Judith Post crafted a fantastic story, seamlessly weaving Biblical canon, supernatural lore, and contemporary tropes into an inventive, creative take on a popular myth.

She crafted a serial killer who is clever, sadistic, and driven. My pulse pounded when he was on the prowl. It nearly burst from my chest when the heroes were hot on his tail.

And speaking of heroes, this book has a slew of them, each more fascinating than the last. Actually, it has heroes and antiheroes, and both sets are so compelling. Everyone comes to the story with a rich history and a ton of baggage, and it’s sheer pleasure figuring out who they all are and what roles they serve.

For every hero, there’s a villain, and this book has its share... criminals, vampires, fallen angels. Just when you’re certain there are shades of gray, they go darker than you can imagine. The author penned antagonists who are delightfully dark and twisted.

The story takes place in the thick of winter, and the landscape became a character itself. The bleak days, the swirling blizzards, the bitter nights… keep a cup of coffee with you. You’ll need it to stay warm and want the caffeine so you can stay up all night. I didn’t want to put this book down for even a moment, let alone hours of sleep.

I’m so glad there’s a sequel because I’m not ready to say goodbye to this world.

Characters are familiar. Powerful angel alluring vampire, good cop. Story drags at times and repeats a lot.. they almost catch their prey but fail way too often. Some scenes drag but the action scenes are rushed. Not a good book if you are on a diet or hungry since they are eating almost every chapter.

There are many things I really appreciated and liked in Fallen Angels, and many things that irritated me too much to discount. That is the very reason I cannot give the book a rating greater than three, even though I did enjoy the book quite a lot. The story that Judith Post has penned is not one that is unheard of. But vampires against angels, although not a new concept, is one that is always interesting. Story-wise, the book was good. The author created her own version for the origin of vampires and it was definitely interesting.

The battle of good vampires against rogue vampires is not too uncommon either. Vampires being compassionate to humans and standing up against their counterparts who look at humans as nothing but food is a topic that has been broached before. But the angels' truce that drives the battle in the book is a nice touch that explains this behavior perfectly. Then you have the rules that apply to the vampires. I thought that the author maintained great authenticity in the rules that govern vampires and their way of life, greatly influenced by the original Dracula by Bram Stoker.
But what I didn't like about the book was the writing style. Normally smooth, it often became very abrupt, jumping from dialogue to dialogue, point of view to point of view and situation to situation too quickly to follow. Sometimes, it became too difficult to tell when one person stopped speaking and someone else replied. While this might not seem like a major concern, it definitely went a long way in disrupting the flow and can be quite a turn off for some readers. The second thing that I found greatly annoying were the intimate scenes. They went from two lines to one page and really abrupt to long and drawn out without any evident reason. But all the scenes were written quite aesthetically, making this fault one that can be ignored if you're not one to be too bothered about that chapter of a story anyway.

In my opinion though, the authenticity of the ways of vampires (as seen in Dracula which was one of the earliest books on the topic) along with the excellent character development made this book really interesting. Throw in the fact that the story, with all its twists and turns, was quite gripping and engaging, and you get a book that you would definitely not want to miss out on if you are a fan of anything vampire related.
Fallen Angels has it all - good vampires, bad vampires, angels, mystery, thrills, murder, suspense and characters you can relate to comfortably - making it a book that you can read at any time. I picked it up when I wanted a fast paced, thrilling read and it did not disappoint. So, if you're a fan of vampire fiction or like anything paranormal, you will enjoy Fallen Angels. And now that I have finished it, I will soon turn my attention to its sequel which, as I hear, is as interesting as the first part.

As a fellow author there are several things I look for in a book when I rate one. Did the author grab my attention and pull me into the story from the beginning? Was my interest held throughout the book? Were the characters believable and the storyline plausible? The last would be the ending. Did the author leave me hanging with unanswered questions? I know in a series it’s important to leave the reader hanging in order to make them buy the next book but some authors don’t know how to make that clean break from one book to the next. Ms. Post is not one of them as she hints with what’s to come in the next book but for a reader if they chose to only read this one then the story could be complete. From the beginning I was pulled into Enoch and Voronika’s world. For me the storyline did flow evenly without gaps writers sometimes leave based on editor’s suggestions. The only fault I found was that a little more detail could have been poured into the scenery to make the reader believe they were there. Because of that I gave her a four out of five.
This is two stories in one, an immortal and a vampire who must overcome the pain and loss of their past to trust in love and the epic story of good vs. evil. In the story Enoch must struggle as a fallen angel, questioning his beliefs as he sees the depth of evil mankind is capable of. Like most of us he questions why so many good people must suffer and why it seems so much has been piled upon his shoulders with no help from above. Sent to earth after his friend Caleb was cast out of heaven during Lucifer’s uprising, Enoch must now clean up his friends mess and bring him home. Unfortunately as many of us know, not everyone wants to be saved and thus the epic journey begins for Enoch as he battles the rogue vampires throughout the centuries while trying to convince Caleb the errors of his ways.
Veronika is a vampire in hiding. Her meeting with Enoch is coincidental but from the beginning there is a connection between the two. Both have lost ones they loved in their past and both have reasons to hide their identity from the outside world of mortals. As the story progresses neither are able to do that when both are pulled into the mortal world of a serial killer. Not only must they learn to trust each other but they must learn to trust the mortals Enoch is sworn to protect. To add to the twist Veronika is hunted by Vlad, her maker and Caleb’s favored. He will do anything to get her back and Enoch will do everything to prevent that from happening.

This book gives an interesting spin on the vampire origin mythology. An Angel, bad enough to be cast out, but not quite bad enough for Hell, ends up on Earth. Trying to fill that void left behind he starts drinking human blood, which in turn makes vamps.

But that isn’t where the book starts. It follows Enoch (mostly), an angel, through trying to help his friend Danny, a detective, solve some grizzly murders. The vamps don’t actually get involved until later.

It took me a while to get into this book. It just seemed to start of slow. Ok, there is a murder. Everyone is upset. The MC (main character) is some sort of supernatural creature (supe). Ok, another murder. You find out more about the MC. Once I got through that first half though, it really picked up for me. That is when the supes really seemed to get involved in the story.

Of course there is a love interest. And they do have sex. Some of those scenes were just hinted at,

“Come on angel. I know how celebrate anniversaries.” He swooped her into his arms. He knew a few traditions too.

And that’s fine. What bothered me, and I won’t quote it so as to not offend anyone’s sensibilities, was that the author did attempt to write a few “love” scenes out, and they seemed really rushed. Like she was uncomfortable with the whole thing. I get it, we aren’t all good at writing sex scenes. So just allude to them and get back to what you are good at, telling a story.

Also, the MC seemed a little too powerful. There was never a chance he was going to lose. Maybe someone he was working with or cared about would, but he is Immortal in the true sense of the word. He cannot be killed. He therefore has no weakness. Which makes it hard to feel anything in common with him. Not that I think I am an angle by any means. ;-)

Overall, I would have to give this 3.5 out of 5 stars. I really did enjoy the story. I didn’t feel like it wasted my time and I don’t want those hours back. It wasn’t a I-can’t-put-this-down-to-do-anything book, but I would recommend it for an easy, yet longer read.

I received a copy of Fallen Angels from the author in turn for a fair and honest review. This book took me a long time to get into it, in fact I was about half way through before I really got into the story. It wasn't a real complicated plot it is essential a murder mystery with a side of good vs evil. Enoch and Caleb have battled for centuries, Caleb is a fallen angel who had been trying to follow Lucifer when Enoch stopped him. Caleb discovers human blood can sustain him, thus the vampire race was born. Caleb while still a force of light is sent to earth to bring Caleb to heal and cannot return home until he does. Enoch has no intention of returning and a centuries long battle is born.

In the small town Enoch lives he befriends a cop and is using his special skills as an immortal to help him track down a serial killer. Meanwhile Enoch falls for a vampire woman and she was created and being hunted by Vlad one of Caleb's favorite creations. He sends his minions to try and recover her while she is also trying to help stop the serial killer. Now Enoch must protect her as well as try and prevent more murders.

I think I am vamped out! The book was well written, the idea of vamps coming from fallen angels was original and the characters were well developed and the romance was also well done but I just could not get into this book. I have no rational explanation for it but it just didn't work for me. The battle scenes were well done and I did like the interactions between Enoch and Caleb, I just wish there back story had come a little sooner in the book. All in all it was ok.

IT HAD ITS MOMENTS
Veronika is a vampire that is running away from her maker. She lives in the shadows, hiding from everyone. Enoch is an angel send to Earth to complete a mission and go back home when it is done. But as the centuries pass, he is losing hope of ever going back. When a serial killer starts to kill women in their homes Enoch agrees to help his friend Danny, the lead detective on the case, to solve the murders. Veronika's and Enoch's path crossed in the middle of this investigation. Soon they’ll find out that they not only have to worry about a serial killer; but also about a very psychotic vampire who is willing to go any length to get Veronika back. How many women will have to die before they get the killer? Can Enoch protect Danny and Veronika from all of the attacks coming at them? Will Veronika lose her life in her quest for freedom?

I love the plot. I love the part about investigating the murders and I love the war with the vampires. The book felt long. It has some parts that I felt like I could just skip them. I kept asking myself, why is this here? I think some parts where just too much. That was the only thing I didn’t like about this book. It went too slow. I like the characters. It had some funny parts. Again the story line was great. I love the happy ending. I think I solved the mystery about why the women were picked by the killer before they did. It felt obvious to me.

In saving his fellow Angel Caleb from sharing Lucifer’s fate, Enoch finds himself banished to earth until both he and Caleb return to the heavens. Caleb is having none of it and makes himself companions in the form of the first vampires. He also strikes a truce with Enoch that vampires who prey on the innocent can be killed. Enoch meanwhile continues to protect mankind by working with local detectives to catch a brutal serial killer. Enoch also meets and falls for Voronika, who is running and hiding from her maker and Caleb’s favorite Vlad. Psychotic Vlad will do anything to get Voronika back, including offering a bounty which sends dozens of vampires after the couple. Soon Enoch’s boredom with life is gone as he is besieged on all sides by psychotic killers and vampires as he tries to keep his lover, friends and Three Rivers safe.

There were a couple of places that the book dragged a bit. That could be tightened but doesn’t really make for a bad book but does encourage skimming.

Although the players and their relationships seems complicated the storyline, plot, characters all flow well into an interesting story. Fallen Angels works well as a stand- alone paranormal romantic suspense but could just as easily be worked as a foundation for a series. Also I resolved the mysteries before the protagonists.

This was a free read in exchange for an honest review. Bottom line here is I would read more from this author or in this series.

Enoch is an angel who is trapped on earth until he can convince his once-friend, Caleb, to renounce his ways and return to heaven. The two are immortal. But while Enoch embraces the light, Caleb creates vampires. While helping his human friend, Danny, search for a serial killer, Enoch meets and falls in love with Veronika. Veronika is a vampire with her own troubles. She's running from her former master and would rather die than return to him.

I really enjoyed this book. The author does a good job of bringing her characters to life. The story is both unique and unpredictable, with multiple plot twists. Just when you think you might know what is going to happen next, the author throws in something else.

There were a few places where I found the story to be a little slow. But overall, it was a good story and I would highly recommend it.

I went into this book thinking I probably wouldn't enjoy it all that much. But the reviews were mostly good so I proceeded. I found it interesting enough and entertaining enough to keep me satisfied. It sounds like the base story of angels and vampires is common, yet I have never heard it before so it was a fresh idea and quite intriguing for me. The story seemed realistic enough (well, as realistic as can be when the story's main characters include angels and vampires!), and for the most part it was written well. The murder story-line and the vampire story-line interconnected really well. The only thing I didn't like was the length. I felt like it dragged on a bit too long during some parts. Overall though, it was pretty good!

Fallen angels!!! I love fallen angels! Oeh vampires made by a bad bad fallen angel? Count me in!
I liked the story because I love fallen angels stories and of course vampires. I love the struggle between good and bad. I liked the interaction and I liked the friendship and that there were a few interesting and well-deserved relationships blooming. I liked it a little less though, that the good angel was so… human. Sure, I love that the angel adapts to the human ways and such, but aren't angels supposed to be all powerful? I think the story would be nice enough if he was a vampire anomaly, a good one of course, or just some powerful immortal, but he was so… inadequate compared to the vamps. That made me like the story less. But all in all, I enjoyed it.

Judith reinvents the Vampire mythology and it works. A good blending of urban fantasy and crime drama. That the book picks up speed in the second half doesn't seem unusual since Judith invests the time to put us inside Enoch, Caleb and their world. The prologue detailing a vampire's morning had me hooked. Judith's risk pays off by weaving a rich narrative. By book's end we are committed to these characters and want to visit their world again.

Very good story; I like the blending of angels with Vamps. The book had a lot of good laugh out loud moments in it with the interaction between Voronika & Enoch and also Enoch with Danny; I'll see about checking out more of Judith Post's work.
