Rob Reid is the very popular author of numerous books on children’s programming for ALA Editions. He has also written resource books for Upstart Books, as well as two picture books. In addition, he writes regular columns on programming and children’s literature for LibrarySparks and Book Links magazines. He teaches courses on children’s and adolescent literature and a variety of library topics at the University of Wisconsin–Eau Claire. He conducts workshops throughout North America on ways to make literature come alive for children.

A very cute song set to the tune of "She'll Be Coming Round the Mountain" with cute pictures of animals; good for story time.

What more fun could you have on any given day than at the library? This book can be sung to the children (She's Coming Around the Mountain). Fun!! I enjoyed and sang out loud.

This is the absolute cutest book. As a librarian, I'm a bit biased, but I'm just in love with this. I might buy it.
The text follows the pattern of "She'll Be Comin' Round the Mountain" and talks about the various activities at the library like storytime, songs, nursery rhymes, hand motions, crafts, snacks, and of course checking out books.
The illustrations are really just wonderful though. Sunflowers, blue birds, and gray cats--my favorites--feature on the front cover. There's a pig that wears an adorable pink flower on her ear. You see a chicken reading a book of eggless recipes. Everyone gets the right book for them--Tales of Peter Rabbit for the rabbit, Chicken Little for the chickens, Cheese for the mouse, Dairy Products for the cow, Eagles for a little chick (so cute!), Knitting for Kids for the little goat, etc. It's just great. One of the last pages is also inset to the back cover which features the sheep librarian scanning a barcode to check out a book <3 along with a Babar poster, a "We <3 Books" sticker on the computer, and a sunflower, and teal walls.

Rob Reid has created at least 5 Library/Early Literacy Help Books, being an Early Literacy Specialist himself for many years.
He has created this picture book, with words set to the tune of 'She'll be coming round the mountain', featuring a story of a group of barnyard animals coming to storytime at the Barn Library.
Colorful and cute illustrations.
Great read aloud book for kids and storytime specialists.

PreS-Gr 1-Building on the familiar song "She'll Be Coming 'Round the Mountain," Reid's animal version begins, "We'll be comin' down to storytime when we come. Yee ha!" as all the farm animals run excitedly to the barn. It ends with, "We will check out lots of books when we leave, Bye Now!" as the animals exit, each with at least one book in hand, and are shown on or under a big, broad tree, reading. Illustrations fit the rollicking mood perfectly. Westcott imbues each scene with plenty of color and lively action as the chicks, ducks, birds, pig, sheep, cat, dog, etc., "hear a funny story," "say a nursery rhyme," "make a fingerplay," and so on. Having created a wonderful advertisement for an energetic storytime, Reid also includes a guide that has a short list of Mother Goose books for the nursery-rhyme portion, a list of children's recordings for suggested songs, and even a picture that may be copied and given to the children to color. Set to the tune of She'll Be Comin' 'Round the Mountain, this story reviews various activities young kids might do during story time at a public library. Definitely aimed at a niche audience. The redundancy had me skimming instead of reading closely.

When I saw this book on the new bookcart @ work, I was thrilled, after I read it my enthusiasm dwindled. It is an adorable idea and the tune of "coming around the mountain" works well but as the book progresses the refrain loses speed. Too many activites are listed and it becomes highly confusing. "We might get a treat when we come" shoot me now snacks at STORYTIME and I though crafts was a bit much! LOL. I so wanted to make this a favorite storytime book but it is best read as a oneon1 story. (bummer)

This is a cute picture book and I liked the idea behind using a familiar tune (She'll Be Comin' Around the Mountian), to get children to sing along with the story. However, the lines in the book are a little off for keeping the song going. There are too many syllables in some places which made it a little akward for me to stay on track and I wouldn't expect a Kindergarten class to. It also drags on a bit and ends up being a bit long for kids to stay interested the whole time.

To the tune of She'll be Coming Around the Mountain but with farm animals that go to story time with a super cool librarian! This one even came with a little booklet with songs and rhymes to use to plan a program.

Nice idea, cute illustrations. But the very word "Storytime" throws the meter off by a syllable. ARGH.

The big bright illustrations capture the joy we all hope that kids feel when they hear the word "Storytime." All the barnyard animals come running to the barn and enthusiastically say rhymes, sing and dance, do finger plays and listen to the stories. There is even a puppet show and snack. I haven't actually presented this one at Storytime, but I think the text would be singable to the tune of "She'll be Comin' Round the Mountain" which is a bonus. This lovely book captures all of the fun and joy of Storytime. Great fun!
