I've never seen a production of KISMET and wondered why local theater groups and high schools never choose to perform it. I discovered it's dated, racist, and sexist. Set in ancient Baghdad, its jokes about hands getting chopped off for theft and women bound in slavery aren't very funny, especially since these things continue to exist in the Middle East. I did go on to YouTube and watched some of the musical and dance numbers from the 1955 movie, which are fabulous.
