Becoming Real: Journey to Authenticity

Rate this book
Self-respect, meaningful impact, and the freedom that comes from living in harmony with your deepest self is achievable. The promise of becoming real, of living a life without façade or pretence or the need for prestige is possible. In this personal and provocative work, David Irvine shares his profoundly human journey to realness and his vision of authentic living. Life is a voyage to awaken us to who we are destined to be, yet when we conform to the world’s expectations, we stray from that path. Undertaking the four tasks of the authentic journey - finding center, nourishing community, building character, and seeking calling - will bring you home to the core of your being. While some books offer ephemeral ideas for behavior change, this book offers enduring wisdom for real change. Valuable for anyone who is committed to amplify their impact in the world – business and community leaders, parents, teachers, entrepreneurs - and for anyone who yearns for serenity beyond the fleeting allure of achievement and materialism, this is a must read.

I felt very inspired by what David Irvine encouraged in this book. The only reason for four stars was that I felt it could have been equally powerful a bit shorter.

This is one man's journey to be a more authentic person. At times, I found it to be very self-serving, even egotistical. But, the author was compelling enough that I kept reading. I am not convinced that his journey, or experiences are unique, or even that interesting, but he found a way to reflect on them and gradually change his life over time.
