I’m not traditionally a reader of royal romances. I will go as far as to say I don’t like reading royal romances. That’s not to say I don’t follow real-life royals in the news. What had me reading Running from Royalty was its author, Sheryl Nantus. I am a huge fan of a couple of Sheryl’s paranormal and contemporary romance with suspense elements series. I wanted to see how she was with just a straight-up contemporary romance. What I got and what I wasn’t prepared for was a story where my heart broke and went out to a hero I didn’t even know. Almost immediately, Sheryl shows you through Teddy Dubrienne aka Prince Theo of Ansulenia’s eyes, the worst day of his life. She then allows you to get to know him through his flashbacks and that of his heroine, Kat Kiski.
The love story of Teddy and Kat began more than five years ago, when they met in Canada, while both attended college. At the time, Kat had no idea Teddy was a prince. As things progressed, she learned his true identity. When talk of their future came up, they reached an impasse, forcing an end to their relationship.
Fast forward five years, Teddy, who was third in line for the throne suddenly finds himself on the cusp of being crowned King after the death of his entire family. Teddy and Kat haven’t spoken to each other since they broke up, but that changes when Kat and her best friend Lily fly to Ansulenia to attend the funeral and coronation. While Teddy is shocked that Kat was still on the invite list, he’s glad that she shows up to support him in his time of need. In doing so, the two realize that they still have deep feelings for each other, but unfortunately nothing has changed with the way they see their futures.
Sheryl has written a really nice story. The main characters of Teddy, Kat, Lily, and Josef, Teddy’s bodyguard/assistant, are all great. They definitely each added to the story. I wasn’t expecting Sheryl to bring out so many emotions from me. There were several times where I found myself crying. The only thing I didn’t like or care for was the way the story ended. Kat and Teddy have a happy ending. It just wasn’t the ending I think their story or readers deserved.

“Never underestimate what you can learn from a book, any book.”
“Just listen to your heart and you’ll be fine.”

Royalty is in the news a lot these days, so Running from Royalty from Sheryl Nantus feels very fresh, current and relatable. This is a story of a woman who once turned down a prince. After a tragic beginning to the story, that prince is now king of a small European country. Heroine Kick travels to Teddy's home to help him through the worst time of his life. Immediately, they are both overwhelmed by emotions that never went away. Their connection has always run deep and Teddy has always seen Kick as the one who got away. Sheryl Nantus does a great job showing what it must be like to live in a palace, surrounded by servants, media and other royals. I really loved the way the author portrayed Teddy's raw feelings and the way Kick supported him. This is clearly a couple who are forced to make difficult decisions, while learning how to love again. Will heroine Kick be able to set aside her life and business to join Teddy on the throne? Read this entertaining book and see! CW: grief, loss of family members.
A cute story about an American that fell in love with a college classmate who turned out to be the heir to the throne of a small country. They broke up because she didn't want to give up her "normal" life but always missed him. A funeral led them to see each other again after five years and it seems that romance is still in the air. Enjoyable story with some sad undertones.
If this sad-yet-cute-and-cuddly romantic adventure between Kathleen Kiski and Teddy 'Theo' Dubrienne can captivate my emotions and imagination, that's quite a feat, as I'm not the usual romance novel reader. However - I admit I'm fascinated by royal life, and author Sheryl Nantus has proven time and again to be a strong, capable writer.
Finding out that her old college sweetheart has been suddenly (and tragically) raised to the throne in the little country of Ansulenia is a shock for Kathleen, but that's nothing compared to the emotional roller coaster ride she's about to experience when she leaves Canada to help comfort the new, grieving king.
I know, I know, you're wondering if there's a Happily Ever After ending. Is there still love between them? Will Ansulenia get the queen they need? Nope, I'm not going to tell you how it plays out, because a good adventure-romance story needs to unfold in its own way. And you need to see it happen!
This was a sweet story of taking a second chance on love . Kathleen fell in love with Teddy, the business student. Finding out he is a prince made saying yes to his proposal the obvious choice for both. This time circumstances have changed for both of them. The simplest of things means the right decision for both.
I started reading Running From Royalty and couldn't put it down. I loved that it's a feel good book. The character development was great and I never lost interest in the story line. Great read. I highly recommend.
A very romantic read - love that the prince fell in love with a commoner who is a true princess in heart. Made my long day a little bit brighter and giving hope that dreams do really come true.
Great read, a story that grabs you and holds on three chapters in I too the time to go ahead and get the follow up book! Can’t wait to read it and many more by this great author.
Running from royalty? I'm running from this book. I've actually been trying to read this for a couple of years now and I'm calling time. The MMC is likeable enough but the FMC feels so cold and remote. And once I got to the part where the BFF was making jokes about mental illness, I was done. DNF at 28%. Hard pass.
I was with it for the first half. Then it's like the author realized she was close to the end and had to get them together. Needless to say I didn't like the last like 5 chapters.
