A sadly typical graphic novel narrative. Okay art but not really more than the usual DC fare. I did like the idea of Jack Hawksmoor as a super powered being able to connect with and interact with urban environments and to use the inanimate objects (sidewalks, iron fences, buildings and infrastructure) as he needs. It is unusual to see a truly original hero character – almost all are derivatives in some way of the familiar (and perhaps there is an earlier version of this character out there that I have missed). Hawksmoor’s uniqueness and potential though only served to highlight the hum-drum nature of the other characters in the two volumes of The Authority that I looked at. The books are just okay not really worth seeking out but if you see them on the display panel at your local public library – and have time to kill – the books would be a passable choice.
