Patrick Jackson is the Founder of Learning Like Crazy, an Internet-based foreign-language learning company. Some of Learning Like Crazy’s most popular foreign-language learning products are Learning Spanish Like Crazy, Verbarrator, Learning Italian Like Crazy, and Fast Lane Advanced Spanish. Patrick lives the life of his dreams in Medellín, Colombia. “La Ciudad de la Eterna Primavera” or the City of Eternal Spring. Patrick developed the Learning Spanish Like Crazy method to teach conversational Latin American Spanish. He developed the realizing that all of the Spanish courses on the market did not teach the Spanish that Latin American actually speak in Latin America and even urban areas in the US. Unlike many other Spanish courses (i.e “commercial Spanish courses”), Learning Spanish Like Crazy teaches you how to speak spoken Latin American Spanish as opposed to textbook or formal Spanish. The course is all audio.
DNF'd at 20%. I found that at my level, it was confusing to read sentences full of basic errors - I don't want to accidentally learn the wrong thing by remembering bad models. I also don't make 95%+ of these errors, so ultimately, the book's not for me.
BUT. I do think it would have been handy at around the B1 level.
This book is for anyone who wants to improve their knowledge of Spanish as it clarifies those words that non-native speakers struggle with in an affable way. Filled with anecdotes and a light hearted writing style, it feels like reading a letter from a friend with some grammar points thrown in. To ensure understanding, at the end there is a quiz to take to solidify one’s knowledge. This is a great resource for those students who have an advanced beginner understanding of the language. If you are looking for a resource that covers what may not be addressed in a Spanish class, then this is the book for you.
I have used Learning Spanish Like Crazy since the first audio course was released. I make a lot of errors when I speak, and i found many of them here in this book. I found the writing style very commensurate to learning, and the stories helped alot!
